Internet Archive petition

A coalition of major record labels has filed a lawsuit against the Internet Archive—demanding $700 million for our work preserving and providing access to historical 78rpm records. These fragile, obsolete discs hold some of the earliest recordings of a vanishing American culture. But this lawsuit goes far beyond old records. It’s an attack on the Internet Archive itself.

This lawsuit is an existential threat to the Internet Archive and everything we preserve—including the Wayback Machine, a cornerstone of memory and preservation on the internet.

At a time when digital information is disappearing, being rewritten, or erased entirely, the tools to preserve history must be defended—not dismantled.

This isn’t just about music. It’s about whether future generations will have access to knowledge, history, and culture.

Sign our open letter and tell the record labels to drop their lawsuit.

Announcement: This community is under new management

Hello Internet Historians,

I've decided to give this subreddit up for adoption. I'm handing over moderation to /u/computerfreund03 as he's the only one who's expressed some kind of plan for growing the community.

When I started this sub, the idea was to serve as a content aggregate for cool/obscure/useful/historically relevant stuff on archive.org. Unfortunately, the community has grown very slowly with very little content being posted per-day, per-week, or even per-month. I'm hoping that computerfreund03 will be able to give this community the care it deserves.

I'll still stick around as a poster and lurker, but I'm stepping down because I frankly don't feel qualified to moderate or manage a community centered around what I think is an idea with a lot of potential.

Thanks,

/u/proboardslolv5

Help needed to retrieve old Tripod site

Help needed to retrieve old Tripod site

Tripod shut down permanently on April 24, 2026, after Lycos ended all operations
Three decades of internet service gone, just like that. It was great while it lasted and I am forever thankful to Tripod for cementing childhood core memories.
However, I did not manage to back up my website in time. The website I put my heart and soul into is gone forever.
I have tried archive.org and my website cannot be found there. Not even a page was scrawled. I searched up other old websites of mine, from Blogger and Wordpress - everything was there. I am not sure why the Tripod one isn’t.
Does anyone know how to retrieve a website back?

Any ways to unlock books for patrons with printing disabilities?

There is a specific book but I'd like to download but it is only for patrons with printing disabilities. There used to be a forum where we would request such books and they were unlocked but this page has been down for long.

Playing games off a DVD-Rom Content folder

Archive has a folder for The Mummy Returns, and I'm trying to figure out how to play the games on it as if you were running the DVD on a computer. Is there a way to play the games on a PC emulator or what?

Discussion No Volume Slider on Video Player

New User Here! I'm sure this problem has already been addressed somewhere, Though i havent been able to find it. For some reason, by default there is only the option to mute and unmute on the video player, and I was wondering if there is any sort of work around whether that be a browser extension or otherwise (Ideally without downloading the contents because Idk if i have the space to house the entirety of 4kids One Piece on my current computer lol)

Tapestry, a cassette-deck UI for archive.org → Lyrion / DLNA / your Mac

hi - not sure if you all might be interested, but I created a way to more easily navigate and listen to bootlegs via archive.org

I always felt limited by the bundled archive.org plugin in Lyrion Music Server (my digital connection of choice). It was super clunky and felt like a favorites-browser instead of a search tool.

So I drank a few beers and while listening to tunes, I built one.

Type pink floyd 1973, hit Load, press PLAY on a Sony CHF90-styled deck.

Audio goes to whatever player you've selected: Lyrion (mDNS-discovered), any DLNA renderer (ultraRendu MPD/DLNA mode, Sonos, smart TVs, …), or your Mac speakers.

Mix-tape mode lets you build a custom 90-minute playlist from any tracks across the catalog and save it in the drawer next to your concert tapes.

Tested on my macbook and iMac, let me know if it runs for you.

happy listening 🎵

Is anyone else having difficulty logging in using Google? I have a registered account. The log in lets me sign in, goes thorough Google authenticator and then just returns to the homepage and I'm not signed in.

Television Help with videos from page backed up on Archive.org

Background: Years ago, Disney XD had an animated series called Packages from Planet X (which aired from 2013 to 2014). This series featured shorts that aired on the channel during commercial breaks. However, after Disney XD stopped airing, these shorts were lost. From what I've been able to find out, there were more than 12 shorts in total, and they were around 2 minutes long. Interestingly, according to some people, these shorts aired on the channel before the main episodes of the series. Other sources suggest that these shorts were uploaded to Disney XD's YouTube accounts and deleted when the Disney XD YouTube channel shut down. However, a while ago I managed to find some of these shorts backed up on old Disney websites (some in English, some in Spanish). The problem is that I haven't found a way to download or retrieve the shorts stored there. So I was wondering if anyone knows how to recover them. I wanted to find a way to download or retrieve them from there and make a more effective backup. So far, 9 of the more than 12 shorts from this series have been found; the rest remain lost.

Links to the shorts found in English (9 found, see bottom of page): https://web.archive.org/web/20140328193852/http://disneyxd.disney.com/packages-from-planet-x

If you have print disabilities please help a fellow student out!!

Hiya, I have an assignment due in around 2 days and currently cannot leave my house with all these deadlines coming up - it would mean the world if someone could please send me only Chapter 1 of Roman art: Romulus to Constantine (Ramage, Nancy H.; Ramage, Andrew, Sixth edition, Upper Saddle River, New Jersey, Pearson, 2015). On the site it is limited to disability print readers only. Thank you so much!
