⭐Read before posting! ⭐

Hello community! ❤

We are currently working towards improving the sub. Our goal is to have better engagement and professional environment that also helps newcomers to archviz. To achieve this, we are adding some guidelines and rules to enhance interactions and posts. Additionally we will be implementing challenges! 😁

1. How to post? - chose proper flair

Technical and profesional question: Use this flair if you want to ask specific questions like: "how to create this material?", "what's the necessary hardware for...?", "What can I charge for this...?". Use it when you want to learn how to solve some specific issue, improve as a professional,

I need feedback: Use this flair when you have a render that you might want to improve or not sure it if looks good enough, but you don't have a specific question about it like "how to?"

Share work: Maybe you want to share your latest work or some of your portfolio works, but you don't necessarily are asking for feedback.

Discussion: Use this flair to engage in conversation with the sub community. The main difference with technical and professional flair is that you want to know opinions and pov rather than solve a question or an issue. Example: "Current state of the archviz profession".

Challenge: We are going to be implementing challenges. When participating you should use this flair to post your work.

2. How to post? - post content

In simple terms: don't be lazy. If you want other people to take time to read or provide feedback or help you, then you should take your time too. Any post that's considered lacking in context will be deleted,

More or less, thinking on categories/types of posts: and some considerations

PORTFOLIO (show work | I need feedback):

❌Post a portfolio image that's a link to website/portfolio

✔Post image/s with a description that includes a link or a comment with a link to your portfolio.

❌When you add link in comment or description: redirects to personal website

✔When you add link in comment or description: redirects to known platform like Behance, Artstation and so on...

NEED FEEDBACK / TECHNICAL QUESTION / SHOWING WORK:

❌An image and or a question without proper context

✔Any post, regardless if it's a question, showing work, or asking feedback, should include:

  • Render engine used
  • Software/s used
  • Image/s as reference to highlight the question, issue, discussion.
  • Additional details (not obligatory): elapsed time, difficulties faced or any additional detail that improves
  • Reference if it's based on a real image

This is a case by case. Sometimes if the questions is very specific and well presented you might not need an image.

CREDIT AUTHOR:

❌Post an image without credit the author

✔Post image with credit of the author or studio or artist taken from.

While we won't enforce this, we ask if possible, when working from a reference, add credit to the author, architect, studio, artist, that created said reference

JUST DON'T

❌Self promotion

❌Selling assets

❌Selling courses

❌Post that consist of external links to websites

❌Piracy

This sub shouldn't be a marketplace. If your products are good enough, people should be able to find you trough the proper platforms. We also can't be checking every link to make sure it doesn't redirect to any malicious site.

OTHER TYPES OF POST

❌Post that don't have anything to do with archviz or related to.

✔We do encourage post that improve discussion even if not directly related to archviz. For example: Architecture, styles, animation techniques, photography. ONLY under the terms that can help a 3d artist improve in archviz.

Why this guidelines and rules?

We want to improve the quality of the sub. We have noticed many posts lack any context or sufficient information yet ask for feedback. Posts that are simply ads, and so on. On the long run, those types of posts and interactions tend to be detrimental to any sub. We understand that many of these changes may or may not work, and so we will be open to seeing how they are received, and change if needed.

I need feedback Recent Personal Work

Hey everyone -

I’m an architect by trade and have mostly used real-time engines like Enscape or Lumion that have Rhino integration in my day-to-day design work. I’ve recently tried to pick up 3DSMax and Corona as I’ve been inspired by some professional visualization studios to up my game (labs.jpg, OKDraw, spectrum.vis, ethandeclerk, etc.)

Here’s some recent work I’ve done after a few months of practice & watching tutorials from various sources online. It’s a personal project I designed for fun/the opportunity to work on vis skills. I didn’t use any AI for these - hoping to develop a baseline understanding of the tools before I consider layering that in to the workflow.

I’m much more comfortable with Rhino’s NURBs techniques so the polygon modeling aspect of max has made the process a lot slower than what I’m used to but I feel like the results outweigh the time cost (at least for personal work that isn’t so time constrained.) I’ve tried importing from Rhino but always end up with funky geometry, strange topology, or high poly counts. (Do you all find yourselves remodeling a lot when receiving models developed in other software from clients?)

Wondering what aspects you all think I should focus on to improve the final output and any tips for cutting down the time it takes to set up a scene. Any tips from other folks coming from mostly Rhino experience are also appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi everyone, I’m Hamed, an interior and architectural designer.

I’ve been working on residential, commercial, and hospitality spaces, mainly focusing on interior design, 3D modeling, and architectural visualization.

I wanted to share some of my recent work here and get to know other people working in architecture and design.

I’d be happy to hear your thoughts on the work and connect with other designers and architects.

Technical & professional question Is an ArchViz side hustle still viable?

I’m looking for some realistic career and business advice from people actively working in the industry or running their own studios.

I am a licensed architect who recently switched industries to work as a BIM Coordinator for a general contractor. Because of this pivot, I rarely touch the design or visual side of things anymore, and I find myself missing it. I have extensive past experience running renders, building complex models, and doing post-processing in Photoshop.

I’m strongly considering setting up a part-time architectural visualization business to run renders for clients after hours. Since I have limited free time outside of my standard 9-to-5, I want to see if this is truly worth pursuing.

Questions I have for this community:

Is this a viable side hustle anymore?

  • With generative AI rendering tools rapidly advancing, are clients (contractors, small developers, local architects) still willing to pay a premium rate for custom part-time work, or is AI squeezing out the lower-to-middle tier of the market?

How do you compete in the market with cheaper overseas labor?

  • As a part-timer based in the US (Washington DC area), my rates naturally need to reflect local living costs. Is it still possible to carve out a niche against low cost, high-speed overseas teams when you only have a few hours a week to give?

Does my tech stack seem doable?

  • I plan on using my PC gaming Rig that has a RTX 3060 Ti, 32gigs of ddr4 ram, and a old intel i7 processor as my work machine.
  • The software stack I plan on using is then: Architecture viewer/bridge -> Blender (modeling/prep) -> D5 Render (staging, lighting, rendering) -> Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop/Post-production)

I'd love to hear from anyone who has successfully built an ArchViz side business while maintaining a full-time job. Is it worth the squeeze anymore, or has the landscape shifted too much?

Thanks in advance for your insights!

When you guys say archviz is dead, do you mean strictly pure archviz/rendering, or does that also include someone who delivers the full, detailed technical documentation for a project?

I found this Artist on Insta - Johncreation38 who has reached, in my opinion the best quality Ai generation for Archviz i have ever seen.

Especially for snow and the little details of Materials and grundge and accumulations of wear and tear.

He doesnt share his method (which is understandable) but i thought some of you here might have a clue as to how this is achievable.

Comfy Ui hasnt given me anything useable ever and paid software isnt great either.

Recently worked on the visualisation for this landscape project.

The focus was on understanding the overall design intent and translating it into visuals that communicate the atmosphere, materiality and spatial experience—not just producing a photorealistic render.

Technical & professional question Any furniture branch with top notch models?

Hi all,

I'm lucky enough to be participating in a 45M€ project representation, and I was wondering if any furniture branch offers free top-quality 3D models of their own products. I didn't find any, over the years, but I cannot understand how they don't want to place their furniture in super luxury projects, and sell a fully-funitured house with them. Do you know any smart brand?

Thank you very much and best regards!

I need feedback Recently switched to D5... looking for feedback

Hi guys!!

I recently started using the free version of D5 Render after working with Enscape, and I’m trying to better understand what I can improve within D5 itself.

These are 7 of my recent renders. I’d really appreciate any feedback, especially regarding lighting, materials, atmosphere, composition, and any D5 settings or techniques that could improve the final result.

For context: the architectural projects and 3D modeling are not mine. My role is mainly visualization/rendering. I sometimes make small additions to the models when necessary, but I generally have to work with the design and asset choices provided by whoever created the original model, rather than replacing them.

Render engine: D5 Render
Modeling Software: Sketchup

Feel free to be critical!

Guys!
First time D5 from UE, the quality look solid!

However, how could it been super slow in rendering? It took me more than minutes to render at 2k, while in UE just about 15s. I used 4080 super btw.
