Does anyone ever wonder like me if a back 3 will suit our current players better in terms of attacking not defending because I think Renee and the coaches have made us better against transitions but I feel like if we had wing backs it would suit our players better..
Not a chance. Youre telling Stanway to stay in a box, youre playing Baum, Kelly out of position. Youre asking injury prone Leah and older Catley to run more, and Mariona hasnt been amazing in the 10. Plays better a bit deeper imo
Chelsea men have Rogers and Palmer tucked in as CAMs more than wingers. Similar to Amorims system. The wingbacks provide the width. Those positions are both similar enough to what Rogers and Palmer already were. Baum isnt the only problem here, I completely disagree with you saying this plays to our strengths. I dont think it does at all.
Fine, I just think Mariona and Baum can literally do that role, watched Baum for a while now and she loves to play in the pockets same as Mariona,
it depends on how you platform them we literally have loads of players that can play behind the striker and this formation gets the best out of Liv imo she is literally central where I think her best position is

Played all her life in America as a lb before she moved to us she will be fine playing lwb and I put her as an alternative to catley as a lcb of the back three
She played lb for nccourage for almost a whole season (18plus games) right before we signed her I still remember the discussions when people on here was arguing if she is a lb or rb and most people said she was Lb and why are we signing her when we have McCabe…. If I remember correctly I think weinroither just ruptured her acl
She was literally drafted as a lb by racing Louisville as a left back.. I went through some of all the line ups in her early lineups and basically all her lineups before Arsenal she has about 40-45 starts as a left back
Her first five games for uswnt she played as a LB in 4 of them
I think a back 3 overcorrects our back line at the expense of our attacking strengths.
Last season our defensive record was actually very solid, and that was with Leah and Katie being unavailable for most of the season. Our primary issue was chance creation and goal scoring, that’s where the title was lost. We have a healthier back line and greater depth when Katie returns. I think we’d all like to see a unicorn left-footed CB with height and strength, but the back 4 system will work for us.
In a back three you’d force Mariona to play more advanced box crashing role, which she hasn’t done her entire time at the club, and move Russo to an off-center wing-forward. You could make Russo the central midfielder-forward, but you’d have to sacrifice one of Kim, Mariona, or Stanway. And since you need wingbacks, you are pushing Olivia, Lisa, or Chloe more centrally when their strengths are geared towards finding space both inside and out towards the touch line, then finding Russo/Stina and multiple midfielders in the middle with cutbacks and crosses.
Basically it negates our offensive strengths to correct a defensive issue that doesn’t really exist, as of now.
You’re asking a lot of the wingbacks while taking one of the midfielders/attackers out, which is one of our positions of strength. If we were defensively frail, then I’d get it, but Renee has always been about leveraging midfield control to build attacking threat.
I don’t believe livs position is out wide, in my opinion we need to get her closer to the goal her best run of form for us came when she was playing down the middle and if I am not mistaken most of livs goal last season came in those half spaces close to the goal where a number 10 would be playing in 3-4-3 formation
Also keeping Liv more central, which allows opposing CBs to limit her spaces, rather than out wide in space where she can maximize her speed and 1v1 ability against fullbacks, is wild.
Olivia smith first goal against lcl is why I think her best position is centrally Liverpool did that too Same as sporting Lisbon she has quick feet and you can get your shot off easily centrally compared to being double marked on the wings, goals against Everton, Liverpool too came from that spot she would get occupy as a 10 in that formation
This is the kinda ball alonso plays with this excat formation I think we have the players to mirror the way they used it at Leverkusen abd now at Chels
Made a mistake in the arrangement of the players should be Liv and Mariona behind Russo… but it could easily work … back 3 would hide our flaws better imo
Liv scores double digit if we get her closer to the goal is what I am gonna keep saying having her stuck on the touchline isn’t her strength, she literally scored majority of her goals for us in those pockets she would play in a 3-4-3
