Food & Drink Any suggestions for Chinese restaurants that will cater events?

I'm getting married in February, and we really, REALLY don't want to do traditional wedding catering. We'd like to do Chinese from a restaurant if possible, which we expect will be much cheaper than the $85 a head that caterers charge. We really love some of the Szechuan places in Chinatown mall, but I don't think they cater.

Does anyone have suggestions for good Chinese restaurants that will cater events? I know they almost certainly won't serve the food, we'd have to go pick it up, etc, and we're fine with that. We just want good food at a reasonable price. Thanks in advance!

My friends and I are Athens townies so we haven't been out since the students came back :(

We want bars with a good dance scene, cheap drinks and are walkable to some kind of accommodation!

I'm FINALLY off for a weekend in September so I'm gonna get an airbnb or hotel room for a night!

And if any of y'all are 21-24 and wanna come out with us, let me know!

Just moved to the city, could anyone please recommend me a place in Alpharetta or any locations near Atlanta to add a rear spoiler to my 26’ Ford Mustang?

It needs drilling and I don’t have the tools as I live in an apartment.

Transit & Traffic Taxi Cab Experiences & Recommendations?

Is there a reliable taxi company in Atlanta? I’d like to avoid rideshare apps if I can, but it doesn’t seem like Atlanta has a comparable taxi ecosystem. I’ve seen the Cascade Taxi cabs around; are they good to use, or are there alternatives?

Things to Do Book Clubs?

I'd like to join a book club that meets in person. I did some searching and A Capella Books looks like they have some good ones, but the ones I am interested in are all full. I did ask to get put on their wait list to join, but there are a handful of people ahead of me on the wait list for each of the ones I was interested in, and I am not gonna hold my breath on my turn coming up soon.

I live in midtown but wouldn't mind driving.

I mainly read science fiction and horror but the book club doesn't have to be those genres for me to be interested.

Any suggestions?

Thank you.

Services warm spot on hallway floor and high water bill, need advice on slab leak detection georgia help

our water bill jumped up out of nowhere last month and yesterday i realized a specific patch of hardwood in our hallway is noticeably warm to the touch. we live in the north atlanta area on a concrete slab, so i am pretty sure we are dealing with a hot water line leak underneath the house. i called a general plumber who came out and immediately told me we should just tear up the floor or consider a full house repipe without even pinpointing where the leak actually is. that felt a bit extreme and stressful, so i am trying to figure out the right way to handle this step by step.

Transit & Traffic Parking Oversized Vehicle Near Piedmont Park

Does anyone know of a place near Piedmont Park where I could park a 24’ RV for Shaky Knees weekend?

Ideally, I’d like to park around noon Friday and leave Monday around noon. At minimum, I’d need somewhere that would allow it to remain parked through Sunday around 11:30 PM.

It definitely doesn’t need to be right next to Piedmont Park. A surface lot, oversized vehicle lot, private lot, or somewhere within a reasonable Uber/Lyft ride would be completely fine.

I’m mainly trying to figure out what options exist for a vehicle that size and whether anyone has experience parking an RV in the area during a major event weekend.

Any recommendations or local knowledge would be appreciated!

Kids & Family Care for my kid while he's visiting

Long story short: my wife and I are heading toward a divorce. She lives out of state and I live in Atlanta. My kid (5 years old) lives with her and I visit twice a month until I can get find a job back in the same state. Kid is in kindergarten. For fairness, the kid will come to Atlanta during his school breaks. However, I'll be working. What sort of care can I find where it's just a week long for my kid while I'm work? It'll happen in December, February, and April.

UPDATE: I live in Midtown and work downtown.

Moving Potential Move to Atl

Hi everyone, our family is potentially moving from Erie PA to Atlanta GA. Work location in Tucker.

Married couple early 50's with a teen (last year of high-school)

I have heard traffic is something to be careful about. Hoping to keep M-F 9-5 commute less than 30min.

Safety is probably most important with a teen. Preferably a community with pool and fitness gym close by or even gated community that has a pool and gym?

We like to go for walks after work. Normally now do 3 miles in the evening just in the subdivision we live in good sidewalk system.

Suggestions?

Food & Drink Caprese Sandwich Recs ITP during dinner hours?

Niche request. I know it can be easily made at home but for the days like today when I’d rather not, what’s a consistent spot for a caprese sandwich (bonus points for anywhere that’s open 5-9/10).

Doesn’t have to be extravagant or made with top notch ingredients, just straightforward and satisfying.

Services Alt Hairstyle Recommendations

Hello my Alt girls of Atl. I am in a desperate need of a haircut. I have long hair and looking to get either a butterfly cut or a wolf cut. I am looking for a new hairstyle that does not over charge me. My budget is 50 to 70 bucks for a hair cut. Do you all have any recommendations? I have looking around an no one post their prices and its driving me crazy because I dont want to spend 80 to 100 for a haircut I will hate or that I think its over price. Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

UPADATE: Thank you soo much for all your suggestions. I almost booked with Kith & Kin Salón, since out of all of them they were the most reasonable priced.

My coworker ended up suggesting Jaysmine L. At Ulta of all places. Ulta on Cumberland Blvd. I went with her since the cut + shampoo was $47 no tip. Don't worry I did tip her and she did a fantastic job. I can share a picture if you are interested. She even gifted me a romance novel she picked after we got talking about book reading haha.

Again thank you so much!

Hobby & Community Serious PC repair place recommendation?

I am based in Decatur and looking for competent PC repair service.

my PC wouldn't start with windows error, after exhasuting all the options that i can do, I tried K***s repair (4.9 start on google).

While it was nice that field engineer visits me, but the person just ran basic windows diagnositics for 3 hours and then told me to rescheudle for further repair. By then, I was alraeady $375 out, so i just quit there. (also it was the guy's first week and he didn't seem to know that much...

Now i dont care if i have to bring my pc, but just want it to be fixed. Any pc repair that actually know what they are doing?

Neighborhood Walkable Neighborhoods

Hi! I'm a lesbian in her late 20's moving to the Atlanta area alone. Looking for some suggestions for neighborhoods to look at. Not too worried about a long commute or traffic, it's nothing I haven't dealt with before in other regions. I'm pretty open to anywhere within the Atlanta metro area. Some things I'm looking for:

  • Easy to meet people around my age (friends, dates, etc.)
  • Has a walkable area with good food (good takeout, sit down restaurants, coffee shops, etc.)
  • Has some sort of nightlife/community (bars, fun events, etc.)
  • Relatively safe

Did some deep dives on reddit and found places like Downtown Decatur, Kirkwood, East Village, etc. are options but seeing a lot of mixed reviews.

Overall looking for something in between the "everyones married with kids and are in bed by 9pm" neighborhoods vs. the "everyones in their early 20's and parties all the time" neighborhoods.

Thanks in advance!
