Im a scotsman myself so obviously I didnt, but curious about whether some americans thought it was gibberish or If they managed to make it quite accessible.

Here in Europe there have been, and still are, a significant number of independence movements: Catalonian independence from Spain; Scottish and Welsh independence from the UK; Northern England devolution; Cornish devolution; Corsican independence from France; most countries have some sort of anti-EU movement. Is there a strong anti-US/independence movement in any part of the US?

I see videos of college games with tens of thousands of people in these huge stadiums, and these facilities that look like they belong in premier league football (soccer).

Why is there so much money put into it? I understand a lot go onto the NFL but as a comparison, Rugby/Football University teams in the UK get almost 0 attention and have nowhere near the investment the Americans put into their College sports.

Why is it like that lol?

Could be anything — everyday items, hobby stuff, older products, etc. It doesn’t have to be something that’s generally popular or that other people around you are interested in. Even if it’s just something you personally wish you could get more easily, I’d love to hear it.

I'm (18m 🇮🇪) in the process of learning kicking the mechanics technique etc..

Today it felt like it clicked in some way and i was able to kick a few from 52 yards, which i feel is rather encouraging at the moment.

Ill be beginning college later this weeo for a 2 year course in Business and Finance which will trigger the start of my 5 year NCAA eligability clock.

Football and American College life has always amazed me and i'm considering taking kicking very seriously these next 2 years and try my best to get some form of scholarship at theD2/1 level.

Im aware of Leader Kicking in my country and will be attending their next training sessions, but for now, from your knowledge would any college coach even consider offering a kicker with no in game experience especially one with 3 years of eligability left ?

Im unsure just how far i would be able to kick by then but for the sake of arguement say im hitting from 62 by then ?

English is not my first language, and when watching movies or shows with the original audio, I can’t understand everything that is being said without subtitles. Ambient noise, quiet dialogue, accents, and slang end up being hard to catch. I've been watching everything dubbed my whole life, which is obviously clearer because it's recorded in a studio, and I never use subtitles for it. (YouTube videos and social media content are waaay easier to understand though.)

How is it growing up with school shooter drills, metal detectors at the school gates and school cops? I like America but I can't imagine what this would do to my son's mentality.

I'm having an informal dinner and this came to the table.

My guess is like $20 dollar per day, per person, on normal life expenses, buying nothing in particular, nothing special or specific, just casual living. Just a regular monday sort to speak, fill the gas, buying usual supplies to carry on.

The person I'm talking with says $40 daily.

Like trying to put a real, plausible, accurate cost a person pays every single day no matter what.

I actually posted here about a year ago asking for recommendations for a big US road trip my boyfriend and I were planning through Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah and Idaho.
Well… we never ended up going 💀😂
BUT since then we got engaged!! And now we’re finally coming down to the US, except this time it’s for our combined bachelor/bachelorette trip!

There will be 10 of us (5 couples), all in our 20s, driving down from Alberta, Canada. We booked a house in Island Park, Idaho from April 21–27, 2027.

Now we’re trying to figure out what we should actually do while we’re there!
We definitely want to do Yellowstone for a day assuming the weather and roads cooperate, but otherwise we’re pretty open. We’re willing to drive a couple hours from Island Park for something worth doing, including into Montana or Wyoming.
We’d love recommendations for basically anything outdoor/adventure activities, cool small towns, scenic places, bars/restaurants, hot springs, wildlife, weird roadside attractions, fun group activities, hidden gems, or just something you think a group of Canadians visiting that part of the US needs to experience 😂

We know late April is kind of an awkward time of year there and there could still be a decent amount of snow, so if you’re familiar with Idaho/Montana/Wyoming that time of year, I’d especially love to know what’s actually open and worth doing.

Also, since most/all of us haven’t really road-tripped through this part of the US before, is there anything you think Canadians should know before driving through Montana and Idaho in April?

Basically if there’s something you love in that area, tell me about it! Even if it’s weird or something tourists wouldn’t normally think of 😂

Do you guys talk like that? is that a style of conversating or is it just the individual i am talking to? maybe i’m not catching up on some culture differences.

What do Americans think of Ireland/Irish people?

Do you ask/expect visitors to take off their shoes?

I had discussions on this topic with American tourists in my country. Even on the Internet it seems Americans are quite puritans among Western countries. Even a nipple on a statue or a painting seems to be a big deal, as I often see censorship to hide bodyparts in several settings especially on newd articles.

Typically in my country, I grew seeing statues of naked people (both men and women) in parks, in the street and museums. Many paintings, statues and movies I saw included nutidity, not necessarily in an erotic manner. Even our cityhalls have paintings and statues of a national figure representing a bare breasted woman (Marianne). Same thing in movies, there's a lot of nudity in European movies, even family friendly ones, but American movies even the most violent ones won't show a nipple. So when I talked with Americans they told me Europeans cultures (especially French and Italians) were more "openly sex oriented" than Americans.

So I guess there's a cultural difference on that subject, but how strong is it? Did I mainly come across particularly puritanical Americans, or is it really that deeply ingrained in American culture?

I've recently been watching some interviews of Bernie Sanders and it's made me wonder how this man never became president. What do Americans think of him? And how was he perceived during his presidential campaigns?
