Physician Responded Rabies cost. 53 My
53M. 6ft 205lbs. Gabapentin for meds. Smoker, skyrizi for my psoriasis.
I have a bat in my house for over a week so I went and got the rabies vaccine just in case I get bit cuz I can't find the sucker.
I had a series of 6 shots just now and have to go back for 3 more.
One of the six shots was a tetanus shot tho.
But they told me I would be responsible for the cost if insurance doesn't cover it which it probably won't. But it was $5964. That seems outrageous. Am I getting scammed here? Why is it so darn expensive.
I realize it's optional but I also don't want to get rabies and die.
So any doctors out there, does this seem normal to you?

Not a US doctor, but that sounds like a typical amount. RPEP and especially HRIG are quite expensive, which is why a prosaic assessment of true risk should be performed when considering those prophylactic treatments.
Just out of curiosity: why do you presume a bat to be in your house when you cannot find it?

Well Ivevseen it several times now. One time it flew directly at me. Scared the crap outta me. I know it goes downstairs where it's dark. I also woke up with what looked like bite marks on both legs. I see it flying around when I'm in my living room. But then it goes downstairs and pops upstairs every so often. Like if it hears noise or movement I will see it flying around. But he's so fast that I don't know where it ends up.
