Question for managers??
I work at a restaurant, and our manager has mentioned how much of a headache it can be dealing with availability, schedule changes, and call-outs.
I started putting together an app for our own restaurant where employees submit availability, it suggests/builds the schedule around roles and conflicts, and the manager mainly reviews, approves, or edits it.
If someone calls out, it would also show who is actually available to cover instead of manually asking everyone.
For those managing restaurants: is scheduling/call-out coverage still a headache for you?

It's probably the most frustrating thing, but the owners have the least amount of employees. They have the least amount so everyone can get a good amount of hours though that often has one of the owners or me staying to close

Does it take labor costs into account? A lot of times, it's not the scheduling managers idea to pay out labor like they do. Instead, they have to adjust it to appease the overlords who think one person can operate an entire store. Or 3 people total can efficiently run a dinner rush while also keeping production times as low as they demand.
The two greatest costs in restaurants are labor and food.A million dollar store can spend $500k+ on those two categories alone.

It is, but to be honest apps don’t fix the underlying issue. Scheduling is hard. And when friends work together they all want the same days off.

Does the app take these things into account:
Who is cross trained for what positions?
Labor cost, and projected sales?
Requests off being blacked out?

There are already several apps available that do this. Why dont they utilize any of them?
