Who’s the best real-life example of “you either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain,” and what happened?

Yeah when Trump won, I sold my model S and bought a VW electric.

I'll never drive a vehicle whose founder did nazi salute

I think you're missing the joke that VW also has direct Nazi associations

I mean if my choices are cars made by former Nazis or current ones I know which is slightly better

2

u/bstabens 3h ago

Former Nazis because they might have learned their lesson..?

5

u/whyohwhy13 3h ago

Well I’m assuming vw leadership is no longer Nazis like they were when the company started. So former Nazi company where as Elon is currently spreading Nazi propaganda so current Nazi. So if my only options are company formerly run by Nazis or the company currently run by Nazis I’ll pick the one that’s not actively being a Nazi

Hey, he found the company and then bought it.

The now discontinued Chevy Bolt is a great little reliable EV

I'm with you, but please don't call him a founder of Tesla.

1

u/kilamumster 4h ago

I always translate that in my head to 'he found it and bought it"

Our modern-day Columbus.

Perfect response

You are very funny, I love it

The nazi salute wasn't even a big deal, just a symbol. His backing of that trumped up pedophile monster was his downfall.

This is satire, right?

Um. based on other replies, there's something you should know about Volkswagen.

Hitler founded it.

-23

u/joejackson62 11h ago

So, instead, you bought a car that was created by the German Labour Front, a Nazi organization, under the direction of Adolf Hitler.

Bold strategy, Cotton. Let's see if it pays off.

In case you are slightly obtuse: Volkswagen is a brand, it's not the car. And I'm pretty sure every member of the Deutsche Arbeitsfront and the original VW leadership is pretty dead (not 100% guaranteed, there might be some 100 year old german around that started working there very young).

So technically he bought a car that was created by engineers in Germany 80 years after the brand was asociated with the NSDAP and the Reich. If that person lives in the US, it's also pretty much guaranteed the car was built in the US, wait, it might still be a Nazi car, nevermind!

u/Rannasha 10h ago

Wow, that's an argument that has never been used before...

Note that VW barely produced any cars prior to WW2 when the factory was repurposed for the war. After WW2, with the factory essentially ruined by allied bombardments, the British army took control of it and had it rebuilt.

So the line between the pre-war KdF cars (the few that were produced) and the post-war VW cars is very thin.

And even if there was a clear, continuous line of governance from Hitler to the VW of today: Hitler is long gone. Musk is actively undermining democracies right now. The two are not comparable.

It was a Roman salute but ok.

-12

u/Commonmn 11h ago

Wasn't VW founded by Hitler...?

Come on man, you need to get better at detecting context clues.
