The shanty towns created by the depression became known as "Hoovervilles".

Newspapers were called "Hoover blankets." Shame, because Hoover Dam really was quite the achievement.

It was very contentious at the time even naming the dam after anyone living. Most people knew it as the boulder dam until many years later.

I'm kinda surprised it hasn't been renamed this year. That along with the Statue of Liberty, the Great Pyramids and the ISS.
