Giles De Rais. Fiction blends with history a bit, but he was a well-respected French general and knight who fought alongside Joan of Arc and (according to some sources) was an advocate and defendant of her even when the Church condemmed her. After Joan's death, he spiraled and became a child-raping serial killer.
