I have an upcoming trip to Cluj Napoca, last week of October for 4 days , plan to use only public transport or taxi for sight seeing . We are just 2 siblings trying to explore the place. What do you suggest we should do, if the idea is to having a relaxing , but also a halloween / autumn vibe experience . It also happens to be one of our birthday during the trip. Do you have any suggestions?
We have planned to visit one of the spas around the area, and also the botanical garden . Any quirky museums ? Any parades / events / markets that is happening around that time ?

I need to ask, is there a national sport in Romania, or some kind of fetish, to drive in the left lane on the highway? Two weeks ago, I was driving from Constanta to Bucharest. All the cars were in the left lane, even when there was nobody in the right lane. In other words, it was much faster to overtake in the right lane (which is forbidden).

Why use the left lane for driving, not just for overtaking?

I'm from Serbia; here, if you are in the left lane, people will flash you with lights and get behind you until you move to the right lane.

I am 30 years old Romanian guy who moved to France with his dad back when I was 18 years old. Ever since, I’ve been back to Romania for vacations. I’ve adapted to France and to the French culture, I did studies there, I work and I have friends. On the other side at the end of the day I feel still a little bit “too Romanian to be French but also too French to be Romanian” - in my way of thinking.
I work in IT, and I’m thinking maybe i can make it back home, but as I know the country only as a vacation destination and that my whole adult life”formation” was done abroad I’m scared of actually doing something about this.
Also I have someone I fancy in Romania, who doesn’t want to move to France - she is the reason for which the idea of moving back home came through my mind - but if I wanna do it, I want to do it for myself, not “only” for her.
What would you do?
Would you come back?
Also - would you move from Romania if you had a chance?

I booked a tour on Viator to go on a day-trip to Peles castle, Bran castle and Brasov. They says that the entrance ticket is not included and they can buy it for us, but the price ticket looks much more expensive than on the official page! Anyone already went on this kind of tour can help me? Should I buy at the castle, in advance on the website with the timeslot or with the guide?

I will be visiting your beautiful country again for about three weeks.

I love football and am planning to visit a couple of matches. For example there will be the derby between Dinamo and FCSB. Tickets are on sale at the moment.

When trying to order them online (because it will be sold out) I have to enter a CNP and also where I live in Romania. I guess I can take the address of my accommodation but obviously I don't have a CNP.

Do any of you have experience with that? Is there a work around? Has someone bought tickets with that before?

I think the tickets will be personalized, which is finde, but what do I do as a foreigner?

hi everyone! i have a question regarding how Romanians learn English and how/when this is taught in schools?

For context, I’m Northern European and my boyfriend is Romanian. Therefore, I have visited Romania with him and his family a couple of times now and I really enjoy it! Most of his family speaks English so I can communicate with most of them just fine (and I’m learning Romanian but it’s far from perfect so I’m glad to have English to fall back on haha😅) But, I’m very confused as to how people are taught English over there? Where I’m from, kids start learning English at school in 1st grade (at around 6 years old) but in Romania, that doesn’t seem to be the case? I met a lot of kids when we were there, most of them between the ages of roughly 7-12 and they barely spoke any English? They could say “hello”, “yes”, “no”, “how are you?” and other very simple words and phrases like that but that was it. I was a little confused by that considering my own background and culture, when I was at that age, of course I didn’t speak English perfectly but I remember being able to hold basic conversations in English and express my thoughts, needs etc. in English. I had also heard from multiple people and sources before ever coming to Romania that most people in Romania speak English very well and most of the adults I met spoke English quite well but I’m just confused as to when English starts being part of the school curriculum and how it is taught? We also asked those kids if they learn English in school and they said no and told us they learn French instead?

I did also met a guy who was close to my age (early 20’s) and he had the same level of English as those kids which baffled me a bit since where I’m from, you would never meet a young adult who barely speaks English. Sure, there are people who are more and less skilled, people who mess up verb conjugation etc. but everyone around that age would be able to hold a conversation in English.

Anyway, I don’t mean to be judgmental or anything, I’m just genuinely curious as to how and when English is taught in schools in Romania? Do most people need to learn English by themselves outside of school? And it seems to me like French is prioritized over English, why is that?

I want to rent a car and experience the best of Romania during Christmas. I need your objective advice and local tips to build my route:

Where to go? Which cities, medieval towns, and castles are absolute must-sees for a 10-day winter loop starting from Bucharest?

Winter Driving: How are the road conditions in late December? Are the main mountain passes well-cleared, or should I avoid certain routes due to snow/black ice?

Christmas Logistics: I will be in the country for Christmas Eve and Day (Dec 24-25). Do castles and restaurants completely close? Where is the best town to spend those specific days?

The Last Night: Given my 11:00 AM airport deadline on Dec 30, is it safe to drive from the mountains/transylvania on that morning, or should I strictly sleep near the airport the night before?
