Getting off the loop from Epps Bridge onto Atlanta Highway this morning, there was a dead animal in the new exit lane that they are paving to the right. I swear it looked like a mountain lion. Obvs that’s insane. Was it a dog? A deer? A bobcat? Am I just totally losing it?

There aren’t mountain lions in Georgia. Maybe they hit a bobcat.
Mountain lions are in California, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota.
There are occasionally transient juvenile males seen in other states like in the Ozarks and Tennessee but not Georgia. There have been 3 documented transient Florida panthers in the last 30 years in Georgia but none in Athens.

He thought he hit a dog until he got out and saw it. He even checked in with the game warden to see if he could take it to the taxidermist but the warden said they are protected and you will be fined if you take them
Your friend is making things up. If he’d shown a mountain lion corpse to a game warden in GA, it would have been reported. Mountain lions have been extirpated from most of the eastern US, GA included, for quite some time. The only confirmed sightings in the past 25 years are 3 instances of roaming Florida panthers making their way into the far southern parts of the state.
