Greetings!! Recently moved from Detroit to Austin.

Michigan has the ‘arts beats and eats’ festival, in addition to amazing food and vendors there is great live music.
This year some highlights are Fuel and Third Eye Blind.

My question is - does Austin have anything similar, on that scale?

I know about the ACL fest, but that seems more along the lines of lolla, I’m looking for something a bit smaller.

The Relevators, one of the best jazz bands in Austin, will host Hot Jazz Summer on Saturday, August 29 from 6 to 11 pm at the Scottish Rite Theater, 207 West 18th Street. There will be a jazz duo in the lobby before the show, music by the Golden Hour Orchestra, readings of jazz poetry and a performance by the Relevators, an 8-9 piece band featuring the big band music of the 1920s and 1930s.

I have been trying to plan around the heat, which mostly means late shows or early evenings under trees. Here is what caught my eye that involves actual music this weekend.

Friday at 5:00 PM, Zilker Botanical Garden has Evening Serenity, a weekend wind-down set with Jené. Sitting in the garden as it finally cools off is about the only outdoor thing I trust in August.

Saturday at 8:00 PM, ZZ Top plays downtown if you want something loud and legendary.

Saturday also has Austin Pride, with the festival and night parade starting at 11:00 AM in East Austin, and there is usually plenty of live sound rolling through that whole thing.

Want to laugh instead. Austin Sketch Fest kicks off Friday at 7:30 PM in East Austin. Not music, I know, but it is a good weekend for it.

ZZ Top is the obvious pick, but honestly the garden set is the one I would actually make it to. What else is worth catching this weekend? Add on if I missed something.

Been collecting and playing house records for about 30 years, and for the last while I've been running Bassment Sessions, an underground house mix series on YouTube/Twitch. On the 28th it becomes a real party for the first time. Daniel Allen (Denied Music) is the featured guest, myself and j.francis on residents.
