IMPORTANT - For Current Serving - Active Page Scraping by JMPU

It has come to our attention (from those in the know) that Defence has started employing a third-party software to scrape data from Reddit and attribute comments made across the site to current-serving members. A number of members are reportedly facing NTSCs for comments attributed to them from this sub.

Timely reminder to not make yourself identifiable as a current-serving member of the ADF and to generally watch what you're saying online.

I know this is somewhat old news but this article has a lot of good (unclassified) details about CEAFAR, its history and what it’s capable of.

What are your best Army-ism's that make people outside short circuit?

So I just moved into a new role in my outside the wire job, and someone was just saying how the reports they were doing was a massive hill.

So being ex Army I said "Yeah, lean into the hill, let the hill do the work"

And that baffled a lot of my coworkers, just confused the hell out of them.

Then there was another time one of my coworkers twisted their ankle, so they were at home and they're like "Just in so much pain" and I responded with "Just remember, pain is good, pain is weakness leaving the body"

And again, that was a bit confusing to the coworkers in the meeting.

So I've been out about 4 years now, most of the real bad Armyisms have faded, and some just aren't suitable (this is why you get service allowance for example)

Edit:

Asked a friend and he came back with:

"A good plan violently executed now is better than a perfect plan executed next week" is what he says to his team when they are making sure it's "perfect", perfect doesn't win wars, good enough does. 99% now is better than 100% late

"Watch your arcs" and "Stay in your lane" are ones he uses all the time to mean "Your job is there, mine is here, do your own fucking job"

He also said he's started using "Don't expect what you don't inspect" to his fellow managers, he's hitting 100% on QA because he watches his team, and helps and works with them through issues. Others just expect the team will do it and "beats" them into compliance.

His view is that "we're all the same team, we all succeed or fail together"

Is there any resemblance between Sea Patrol and real life?

Husband is watching Sea Patrol again. In virtually every one of the 68 episodes, there is fighting with pirates of other dangerous people. Crew members are abducted every few episodes.

Am I correct in thinking that encounters like these are very rare?

Guide/Help Check your Service Records

Hey team, me again (sorry - wish it wasn't).

Just a shoutout to ensure your Service Records, particularly your Op Logs, are correct. I have chased it god knows how many times over the last couple of years through the Personnel Information Summary, phone calls and emails to 1800 Defence and whomever they palm me off to. I've had Career Management tell me they'd look into it right away and Personnel Information requests responded to in a generic manner which never solves it.

I dropped track of it (life and enjoying being out lol), only for it to bite me now as a DVA claim gets processed and I get told I only ever did Peacetime service IAW my Service Record.

It also turns out that as I am now discharged and SERCAT 3, I haven't been put under any unit's administrative CoC, something which the 1800 Defence lady apologised for but said can happen until we secure RSDs.

You'd think it would be pretty bloody simple to replicate an Ops Log onto a Service Record noting the Ops names on your Ops Log isn't classified. For clarity, my Ops Log is correct.

I'll see if the DVA sub has anyone that has gone through something similar, but a PSA to everyone in to make sure it's all correct before leaving. Unfortunately it seems I slipped through the cracks despite attempts at having it amended..again.

Inted on emailing my local reserve unit and seeing if they can pull any strings and get access to my pers files to update.
