When Tenzin/Katara says all four elements and we see a bender for each element, should we give the character we know those feats in the intro? And would this happen in canon like are they training or in a fight during these? Usually this doesn't matter more since it's small scale feats but there is one particular reason why I'm asking this.

Avatar Kyoshi...

Not many people know this but I do say it a lot on social media but Kyoshi is really really bad at bending smaller pebbles. It's stated it's like having hands too thick to pick up a grain of sand. Of course a body builder can lift how many whatever lbs but not a grain of sand. Before earth bending training, Kyoshi could only bend rocks bigger than houses. Usually most earth benders started from small to big, but Kyoshi isn't like most earth benders. She started from big to small. She needs her fans to help concentrate her bending on smaller rocks. However in the TLOK intro, it's shown she had gotten over her struggle of earth bending smaller rocks by using just her bare fists.

The first earth bender to ever appear and bend a rock. Of course his feat isn't that great but the first earth bender the franchise ever saw was Sud! Roku's earth bending teacher who was supposed to be Toph!

Aang...

Tenzin does the same move as Aang as we know. It's really cool seeing experienced Aang air bend.

Azula...

She has red/orange flames but it's like the NATLA series where she had red/orange flames at first then it becomes blue. Remember that child Azula in Zuko Alone had red/orange flames.

My take: Boys win because Sozin & Roku are both well aware of lightning and chi blocking. Roku's fire sphere can protect himself from a rockslide and incinerate rocks coming into the sphere. Sozin defeated a skilled earth bender who can throw boulders and use earth armor to almost crush Sozin's spine. Sozin killed Malaya in close range so I think Ty Lee wouldn't be too much of a threat to him. Both Roku & Sozin showed large scale fire bending. Furthermore, these two were in the best in their class. Sozin has very high battle iq as well, always defeating Roku in sparring in their teenage years, and even Azula glazed his battle iq in "Zuko Alone." Hei-Ran is a moderate threat to the trio but Roku knows how to counter fire benders using tunneling. With the addition of Roku's air bending, his air sphere can cover a large portion of his island. Roku can throw several wolves over a hill with air bending. Roku threw Sozin across the throne room with air bending. Roku in the northern capital with just air bending and fire bending, can defeat six of the strongest/most powerful northern water benders who were amped as well. Roku's earth bending is also highly valuable here since Toph could pin Azula to a wall. Roku can earth bend an earth wall across a volcano. There is also a drain of water near the location (where Katara outsmarted Azula) so Roku can use that. Roku has one insanely impressive water bending feat where he sent his master miles away to the North. Yasu while not believing lightning generation exists, sparred with Sozin more frequently as a child before he died. Yasu also did Agni Kai's on behalf of Roku which leads me to believe he could beat Kiyi. I believe Roku with fire, air, water and earth can defeat Azula & Hei-Ran. I think Sozin can defeat Rangi, Ty Lee, and Mai at once. Yasu will beat Kiyi.

Info:

Guru Laghima was born 4,000 years ago in the Northern Air Temple, having unlocked the secret of weightlessness aka Flight. He was a legendary poet, even discussed about 4,000 years later.

Feats:

In the early development of Avatar, Bryan & Mike the creators of Avatar had the highest level air bending move of "Becoming Wind" which is essentially flight.

Zaheer stated/implied from Laghima's poetry that Laghima used the ability of flight for his last 40 years (Timestamp 0:50.) This would mean Laghima would psychic air bend for 40 years straight even while unconscious when sleeping.

Laghima was born before the four nations; lived same period as Shoken who was older than the four nations historically. Even though he was born so long ago, Laghima looked like he had the same tattoos from modern era which suggests air bending mastery even before he stopped touching the ground for 40 years.

Laghima could accidentally knock down an air nomad pilgrim without looking by just levitating upwards which caused winds to knock down the papers in the air nomad's hand as well as the air nomad herself.

Laghima is implied to fly higher than the clouds.

Yangchen was thrown into temptation into trying Laghima's ability of flight, but decided for another day. After she passed away, she told another air avatar she concluded that the Avatar (which includes herself) can never detach themselves, implying she never discovered the ability of flight (Time stamp is 4:40.)

My take: Team Hype benders win. Laghima could defeat Flight Zaheer. Oma can defeat Piandao. Sozin can defeat Jeong Jeong. Gyatso can defeat Iroh. Kelsang can defeat Ghazan. Jianzhu likely defeats P'li. Hei-Ran can defeat Pakku. Lu Beifong trained Jianzhu so he can probably stand up against pre fusion Unalaq until someone helps him. Taqukaq can win against Ming Hua. Disha trained Gyatso & Roku in air bending so she could hold off Bumi until the other team members finish their fight and help her.

In the Awakening of Roku, we have the first scene in which spirit bending is invented, and it's done on Gyatso. Context is Gyatso got infected by a spiritual poison which inverts your energy, amping Gyatso's bending but makes him not in control of his own mind. When Gyatso was spirit bent, he was cured of the poison but remained passed out for several days. When Gyatso was poisoned, he had purple sores all over him. It's also stated the poison cannot be spread like a virus so Gyatso cannot spread it onto someone else. The poison was also stated to invert Gyatso's chi. Spirit bending is also a healing technique within water bending, usually done when you're extremely connected with spirits or trained by someone who is. Spirit bending in a way is similar to Amon's combination of blood bending and chi blocking due to affecting your chi. What spirit bending actually does is changing a spirit/human's chi from negative energy into positive energy.

However, what was Unalaq doing to Korra after Korra opened the second spirit portal? Unalaq seemed to spirit bend Korra's spirit but instead of glowing which represents positive energy, it was purple which represents negative energy like Vaatu's beam. Unalaq was the only spirit bender to have done that move although it didn't work. It was heavily implied it could have corrupted Korra's soul if it worked. Would this mean Unalaq could spirit bend light/good spirits? Could he spirit bend an Avatar in the avatar state? I would assume it would be the opposite but similar effect/opponents. Would Yun, Tokuga, or Tagah/Denied have inverted chi which would make them vulnerable to spirit benders? I would say it wouldn't work on Yun, Tokuga, Tagah, or any Avatars except for Dark Avatar Unalaq even without Unavaatu. Also many people have assumed spirit bending can work on any spirit but it only works on dark spirits whose chi is inverted. If it worked on any spirit then I would say spirit benders can spirit bend Yun, Tagah, and avatars but it doesn't work like that. It depends on who you consider as dark spirits whose chi is inverted. I don't believe spirit bending would work on Father Glowworm, General Old Iron, or Wan Shi Tong but it would work on Hei-Bai.
