QUESTIONS Old Volks Ken Headcap problem
Hi everyone! So I recently managed to score an old Volks Ken on Vinted for £50. He's really stained and dirty, and is definitely a restoration project, but I've been in the hobby since 2010 so decided to give it a go and try and bring him back to life.
I'm having issues with his headcap in the sense it just...doesn't stay on. There's no way to connect it or to secure it so it's sort of just balanced on there?
I can see there's a really old Den of Angels post about this, but since it's "asleep" right now I can't access it.
Does anyone with this doll, or a similar old Volks doll, have any solutions? I feel like I'm missing something here? 😅

The silicone rings volks sells for keeping wigs on also keep head caps together well in my experience

I have and old bjd with a headcap with no real way to attach (edit: or well, a ring you could put the s hook through but it would be a pain to use whenever I want inside the head…), I could mod it to put magnets but so far I’ve just used tape since it doesn’t show under wig 😂

Are those holes for magnets? Does the other side lock in place so it wouldn’t slide off of there was a magnet?

The other side sort of locks in? It does look like a magnet hole but there's no evidence of magnets ever being in there which is confusing me.

Can confirm, those holes are for magnets. Volks switched from a rubberband system to a magnet system in the 00’s at some point.
Ken was sold as an unassembled kit for a long time so it’s possible he was a kit and the person who owned him originally just never glued the magnets in

Oh that's so interesting to know! I estimated be was from some time in the 00's, so that's great to know I was sort of on the right track! It's a shame he's missing his metal plate, but that seems to be very common that the fall off too.

Yup, this! Many bjd’s came without magnets even 🙃 But you could buy them from the websites.

K&J Magnetics is my favorite place to buy magnets. Any size or thickness, they've got it. Buy a couple of appropriately sized magnets and super glue them in.
