Bartlett pear problem

Do I need to cut this off? This is on my leader and if I cut it I worry it'll have some growth issues.

Edit* the hate it for bradford pear .. I would let the branch alone and see what it does next year.. at that size there's very good chance it can grow over that void

There's a good chance it's cicada damage as it is that time in the south 🤢

I have a Bartlett that had this- the branch lasted a few years, and is producing fruit this year; but it’s time to go. Mine enlarged a lot.

The Bartlett pear is the problem. Just cut down the last one on our property. Started with 6 in 2008 and almost every one has died except the one that was too close to the power lines. We did not plant them and would recommend no one does.

They're very weak. Very susceptible to fire blight and pear rust. We had two just fall over due to wind, roots and all. The last one we cut down, utility tree trimmers were across the street working, never even touched it and it dropped two heavy limbs 🤨 I guess it got scared.
