Gas question

Is this normal? When I pull the trigger the gas flows but after a few seconds wire speeds up and gas stops? Also should I be able to feel gas out of nozzle? It’s very faint at 15L I feel like my welds are getting worse

Its a wire feed function. It thinks your feeding new wire into your gun and not welding so it shuts off your gas because its a waste otherwise and speeds up your wire so it gets to your gun faster.

Totally normal.

Depending on the welder, yes. Some welders that don't have a wire inching (wire feed) button will speed up the wire if a weld doesn't start within a certain time span.

Yep. When it goes into wire-feed only mode, you don't want to waste gas waiting for the wire to come through. You'd use wire-feed mode once you have changed the spool, and you need to feed the wire through to the handpiece. If you start a weld, I'd bet the gas will continue going, and the wire feed rate won't go faster.

Yeah, that’s what makes it so hard to narrow down from a photo alone. Could honestly be any of those depending on when it was taken.

It thinks you're jogging wire through the lead so it cuts off gas, it should only do this if it doesn't detect a closed circuit

Exactly this. In our shop we only use miller and all our feeders do this

They probably are getting worse at 15 cfh, try 25 to 30 cfh
