​Hello, I left FADS a few months ago on bad terms, I did not sign any contract so I can answer whatever it is you like about the company or studios. I was with the company for almost three years. And if I ever go back, I’ve lost my mind and please help me.

Okay, I’ve been searching for this for SO long and I’m starting to think it doesn’t exist.
I want to learn ballroom dancing from absolute zero, completely solo, but I don’t want to spend hours going down the YouTube rabbit hole watching random tutorials that have no connection to each other.

I’m looking for something that basically feels like I enrolled in a ballroom dance school for a year… except the entire class is online and I don’t need a partner.

Like imagine there’s a proper curriculum:
Week 1 → Week 2 → Week 3 → Month 2 → Month 6 → etc.
You start with literally the basics — posture, walking, weight changes, footwork, balance, timing, technique — then gradually learn actual steps and figures, turns, styling, arm movements, body movement, musicality, etc. And eventually you move into more advanced material.

And I’d LOVE for it to cover multiple styles too — Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Quickstep, Cha-Cha, Rumba, Jive, maybe even Viennese Waltz and Samba.

Basically I want to be able to press “Lesson 1”, follow the program, practice, come back tomorrow and do “Lesson 2”, and just keep progressing for months. 😭

I KNOW ballroom is traditionally partner dancing, but I’m specifically looking for something designed/adapted for solo practice.

Does something like this EXIST?!

It can be paid if it’s genuinely good, but obviously free or cheap would be amazing.

If you know ANY website, course, app, teacher, syllabus, online dance school, literally anything like this — PLEASE tell me. I feel like I’ve searched the entire internet. 😭

Hi all, I’d love any suggestions on competition makeup. Are there any pro dancers or makeup artists known for a bit more of a natural/subtle eye pop? (Yes, I know the goal is to pop, but I have seen some dancers that somehow manage to pull both subtle and striking off).

I don’t wear makeup on day to day and pretty minimal at competitions (for lack of expertise + sensitive skin) but making an effort for an upcoming one and need good reference images. I like Olena Barna’s makeup and some of the Yulia Zagoruychenko minimalist looks, as well.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Edit: TLDR - Any pro dancers who tend to have more natural look while still eye pop competition makeup? Please share dancer names or specific reference images if you have!

Edit 2.0: Someone brought up a good point; I am very fair and won’t be applying tanner, which is why some of the popular looks look startling on me.

I've noticed at the social parties my studio hosts, even at 40 years old, I'm still noticeably below the median age of the people in attendance. Is this a quirk of the studio I've been going to, or pretty typical in ballroom dancing?

So, after only doing two comps this season, I have bruised my meniscus and my knees are needing a break (tore my right meniscus 2 years ago, but it doesn't effect me). I am taking three weeks to rest up, but I'll just do extra gym to keep my fitness up.

How have people come back to competitive dancing after injury? The thought of not dancing is heartbreaking 💔

I’m a young adult and I’ve been involved in ballroom dancing, which became something I genuinely loved and looked forward to. I never had dance experience prior to October 2025 and my reason for starting dance was to meet new people, relieve family stress, and to feel some sort of escape from that. It has helped tremendously, especially the private lessons, where I can focus on the moment and be present, all while reaching goals and feeling rewarded. I never expected for dance to be in my future.

The problem is that private lessons can get expensive, and my mom eventually saw through my bank account how much money I had spent on dancing.
I understand why the amount concerned her, and I’m not trying to bash my mom. I care about her opinion and I do respect where she’s coming from. I also recognize that I needed to make some changes to how I was spending money on dance.

What I wasn’t expecting was how much the situation would affect me emotionally afterward.
I haven’t danced or gone back to the studio in about a month. The strange thing is that I still really want to dance. I miss it. And I don't even have to continue paying for expensive private lessons—there are much more affordable group classes I can take instead.
But now I feel hesitant about going back at all. Even signing up for an inexpensive group class feels different because I keep thinking about whether my mom supports me dancing. It's almost like the financial situation changed my emotional association with the entire hobby, even though I can participate in it much more affordably.
I'm caught between wanting to respect my mom and wanting to continue something that became a genuine passion for me.

I spend my own money, even if it’s from a part time job. I used my savings. I plan to go into a full-time job this academic year to secure a full time teaching position from subbing first.

Something else that makes this complicated for me is that my mom didn’t realize how much I was spending on dance until I had already been attending the studio for about nine months. I sometimes think about how different everything would have been if she had found out earlier. I likely would have stopped attending, which means many of the experiences, relationships, and memories I developed through dancing afterward may never have happened. That makes it harder for me to look at the situation as simply, “I spent too much money, so I should stop.” I recognize that the spending needed to change, but I also genuinely value what came out of that period of my life.

My mom would also make me feel guilty like saying, “Don’t you think ________ studios was a mistake?, You can’t afford to go there. It’s for the elite”. I had to stand up for myself because I don’t feel that way at all. Having to stand up to her makes me feel anxious sometimes (because I respect her), and I want to avoid her criticism about something I love.

Before I took a break from dancing, I was already planning for the break by looking into an independent studio. My mom seemed to express her disapproval in it, even if it’s a bit cheaper, and that my instructor from the main studio I attend, dances there too. I already scheduled a few group classes at the independent one, but didn’t tell her yet and don’t know how to.

Has anyone else experienced this situation after a parent criticized or became concerned about the cost of your hobby? Did you start feeling guilty, anxious, or hesitant about doing the hobby at all—even after you found a cheaper way to participate? How did you get comfortable enjoying it again without feeling like you were disrespecting your parent? How do you separate regretting the amount you spent from not regretting the experiences that spending happened to make possible?

I also want to hear how ballroom dancers (especially young adults) budget for it.

Hello! I am looking for recommendations for ballroom (standard/latin) dance schools in Brussels based on your experience. Options seem to be limited, so any insights are welcome!

I'm saddened by the news of Dolly's passing. I cant say I am a huge fan, but I do enjoy her music and have so much respect for her as a person. Our studio has a foxtrot class tonight and I'm wondering what songs by her I could suggest we dance to tonight. Any ideas?

How do you all clean your rhinestone hair pieces? I worry about being dissolving the adhesive. Had this for years and it’s gots some product build up

First of all, dancing in leggings looks absolutely atrocious. Or maybe I just look bad in leggings.

Second, I don't know how my dance instructor can keep praising me when I clearly look like a toddler learning how to walk.

I'm meant to participate in a showcase at our studio and I'll be learning three-five choreographed dances but if I were watching a showcase I wouldn't want to watch me. They said we could invite friends and there's no way in hell I'd let anyone I know watch me at this stage.

Just wanted to vent a bit since I'm getting nervous as hell for this showcase. I'm not sure how I'll remember all this choreography.

Any online course programs similar to Ina Jeliazkova for standard followers? My instructor isn’t familiar with any that are in English lol.
