Competition makeup
Hi all, I’d love any suggestions on competition makeup. Are there any pro dancers or makeup artists known for a bit more of a natural/subtle eye pop? (Yes, I know the goal is to pop, but I have seen some dancers that somehow manage to pull both subtle and striking off).
I don’t wear makeup on day to day and pretty minimal at competitions (for lack of expertise + sensitive skin) but making an effort for an upcoming one and need good reference images. I like Olena Barna’s makeup and some of the Yulia Zagoruychenko minimalist looks, as well.
Any suggestions appreciated.
Edit: TLDR - Any pro dancers who tend to have more natural look while still eye pop competition makeup? Please share dancer names or specific reference images if you have!
Edit 2.0: Someone brought up a good point; I am very fair and won’t be applying tanner, which is why some of the popular looks look startling on me.

OP it's fun to practice at home. Check out photos from the last dancesport comp near you and see what they're doing. Try replicating at home. It's cheaper too 🙂

Why aren’t you using tanning? I know the heavy makeup and tanned looks feel extreme, but to be the only one not doing it, you will stand out much more. And not in a good way.

It seems like a ton of makeup but honestly with the lights and across the floor I was surprised by how little it looks. My first comp I could barely see the eye makeup because I have hooded eyes, so I always went heavier after that. You can also always ask your MUA to do a more natural look. Are you on instagram? There are TONS of ballroom make up and hair accounts. Mariya Usan, Boyko, Lashes and Brushes, Image Kompliment are just a few i can think of off the top of my head.

Yes definitely possible.
I am super fair but I've had luck with doing both super dramatic and less dramatic looks but both appropriate for ballroom. Even when I'm pretty tan.

If you have sensitive skin try the Dermacolor camouflage make up. It was made for different skin conditions but it is a two product system. You have to mix it with the make up blend and you can fix it with the translucent powder.
Then for the eye makeup. Try this tutorial here https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LGF64vgj92Q
But instead of black use a medium to dark brown.
I give this tutorial to ever new girl I coach because the instructions are very clear and the look is quite easy. And later you can very easily tone it up with different colours or shimmers.
Even for a simple eye makeup you have to do your eyebrows. The overhead lighting goes through your hairs and then your eyebrows vanish.
And when you don’t want to do a bigger eye makeup use a brighter lip to balance it out. Nothing nude or dark. A nice red or pink. If you feel unsure about that use a brown lip liner and the colour only in the middle.

What level are you? Depending on your level the expectations for your makeup may be different so it may help you look.
