What clipper would you recommend for a beginner barber?
I’m going to start barber school soon, but I’m having a hard time deciding on my first clipper.
I’m not really on a tight budget, so I’m willing to spend more if the clipper is genuinely worth the money. I’m looking for something that I can use throughout school and ideally keep using once I start working professionally.
If you were starting your barbering journey all over again, what clipper would you buy as your first one, and why?
I’d especially appreciate recommendations based on real experience rather than just specs or marketing.
One important note: please don’t recommend TPOB, as their products aren’t available in my country.

Student Getting into school
Hey whats going on so im going to be touring a barber school in wednesday and this is honestly a big and kind of late choice for me right now. Im currently a server/bartender who is also in a metal band so I will be wanting to specialize in alternative haircuts and dye jobs.
I am pretty nervous to start ik not too worried about affording school or anything but does anybody have some advice as to what I should do or how i should go about school?

Barber Clientele and shop advice
Looking for some advice. I’ve been working in the same barbershop the past 4 years and am not fully booked. I’ve been having a good season this summer but now that the back to school is over it’s DEAD. 4 -5 clients in the days of the start of the week and maybe 10/12 on the weekends. When I’m in the busy season I’m doing 17 cuts a day. but lately it’s maybe 10 on a busy day. My question here is should I switch shops? I work on a commission so I make 65% on each service and I can’t afford to be this slow. We don’t get a lot of walk in traffic because there is no street visibility. I have a good client retention but I can’t seem to fill those slow spots because the traffic here is so slow. Been very heavily debating getting my own space or switching to a booth rent shop. Any advice is welcome.

Oster Fast feed Guards
I strictly use fast feeds for my go to clipper (aside from my detachables). I already use the andis double magnetic guards for the 1/2 and 1 and single magnetic for anything higher. I’m a spaz and want another full set of guards but can’t really find anything that I know that’ll fit other than the andis set. Not really a fan of the actual Oster guards. Anyone know of any other magnetic guards that would fit the FF? I don’t even mind off brand if they work but recently got a set and they didn’t seem too secure. The magnet would snap on but you can tell it wouldn’t take much for the guard to lift off the teeth. Any help is appreciated

Tools & Gear Recommendations for trimmer and clipper
I’m looking to get a new clipper and trimmer for barbering. I was thinking about getting the StyleCraft 360 Jeezy clipper and trimmer, but I’d like to hear some recommendations before I pull the trigger.

Tools & Gear Wahl Vapor not charging
As title states my Wahl Vapor clippers stopped charging. It looks like they are registering as fully charged just a minute into bring plugged in, as it blinks a handful of times then goes to solid light.
I’ve only had them for a few months at this point but my last pair lasted me 5 years. Anybody had this problem and fixed it?

Barber What would you charge, and is this actually worth doing
What would you charge to fly to Europe for a private client haircut?
I’ve got a pretty unusual opportunity and I’m curious how other barbers would approach it.
I have a client who wants to fly me from Colorado to Europe specifically to cut his hair. This isn’t really about him being unable to find a barber there from what I can tell, he likes the idea of having his own barber travel to him and has the budget to make it happen.
The complication is that this is a much bigger commitment than just flying over, doing a haircut, and coming home.
I own a barbershop, so being gone means time away from my business during what starts becoming our busy season. I’d also be traveling with roughly $5,000 worth of professional equipment — clippers, shears, products, razors, capes, mobile barber setup, etc. There’s also international travel time, jet lag, potential issues traveling with tools, and realistically I wouldn’t want to fly all the way to Europe just to stay 3–4 days and immediately turn around.
So I’m curious:
What would you charge for something like this?
Would you charge a flat appearance/travel fee, your normal service rate plus a daily rate, lost-income compensation, or package everything into one number?
Update:
Wanted to share with you all the details of the service.
He offered 3k. I of course declined. Thank you all for your time in helping make an informed decision.
Couple weeks ago I told my old barber (I moved states 6 yrs ago) that I start Barber school soon. Today I get a random package from him… the trimmer and foil come tomorrow.

Barber Best clipper high rpm
I use the stylecraft instinct and not happy. Dies fast and gets hot. I am working on sending it back as part of the recall. Any recommendations highly appreciated.
Cut Feedback / Criticism Please only honest opinions 🫣
Hi everyone! This is probably my 15th–20th haircut ever. Please don’t hold back—i’d really appreciate your honest opinion. I’m open to any criticism or advice. I’d really like to know how you would rate my work and what I can improve. Thank you!

Student School’s screwing me; how does an inexperienced student get a barber job?
Got a good deal to join a new school, but the opportunity for cuts has been few and far between. Now I’m 1,000 hours in with only about 20 cuts under my belt and I’m using the term “cuts” very loosely…few bald heads, several touch ups and less than a handful of what I would consider to be true start to finish solid haircuts. At this point I’m 500 hours short of a license and looking for a barber position just to get in the practice the school isn’t providing.
I’m looking at it from the outside in as if I was applying for a new position in any field and personally I feel I’m highly unqualified for the job I’m applying for. Is this common for new barbers? How do I go about finding a chair? The only thing I can logically think of is requesting an apprentice position..? Any help is greatly appreciated

Has anyone sound proofed their barbershop? If so what did you use and where did you place it?

Barber Paid my barber ahead of time a few months ago. Anxious to get my hair cut.
A few months back I paid my barber $100 rather than my usual $45 as he was in a hurry & I didn't have time to get change.
We agreed he'd just get me for free the next time; though now 4 months later it feels scummy of me to ask him.
