Mech Porn Zero Hour

Post image

Finally, after all this time, I got my claws on a King Crab. Over 500 hours of gameplay on this save and I'm finding one just now.

I had this desire to make a King Crab with RAC5s for like three years. In my head, its to have dual Arrow IV launchers on the back, but maybe that's a tad bit unreal since the weight would be too much. So I'll settle for this.

King Crab is the best assault mech ever made. I love 'em! :D

Quick mod question, What mod is that with all that tech, BTA? I’ve played through vanilla and currently playing the Haydes Rim story arc mod pack.

How good is the Hayden's Rim story? Thinking of switching from Roguetech only for that "campaign"

It’s been good so far, very close to Vanilla so far but starting to see Firestarters/ Wolverines full of lostech I’ve never seen. A lot of new factions to ally with, it’s been like the Wild West so far in the outer periphery. I’m still in the beginning but glad I picked it when I returned to play, I couldn’t compare it to any other campaign mods though since this is my first one.

Not at all to my tastes.

Nowhere near enough heat stinking. A RAC5 puts out 60 heat in a full 6 shot burst. The ammo is in awful spots. It has no AMS and no ECM. MRM's with no Apollo system. Heavy plating instead of Clan or at least Sanctuary ferro. Using a defense gyro for extra evasion instead of an XL for the desperately needed weight savings to add more heat sinking. Has useless hands taking up crucial critical slots likewise needed for heat sinking. Only using a +1 e-sink instead of a +2 enabled by the engine core.

Everybody has their own way of doing things and their thresholds of what they seem good/acceptable. That thing is all red flags to my eyes.

Two thumbs down.

You will love it. Your enemies wont.

I feel like the second case 2 is redundant, just put the rac5 ammo to the right and put the weight saved into the leg armor, though I guess this was more of an lore/realism reason.

What be the use of CASE if I can just dodge around it? Plus, I rather not get an unlucky crit, blow a leg, and fall over.

Torso's pretty strong no need to put it somewhere else less protected.

Edit: Also I'd rather not lose ALL of my ammo if I do lose one side.

Fancy turret you got there.

Nice. Put the ammo in the legs then you can drop case and add more armor to those locations.

I prefer uac/20 crab flavor myself. Add a supercharger or myomar upgrades for a bit of speed and a recoil reduction gyro!

I don't like ammo in feet. Torso is already quite strong. No need to lose your leg and ammo to unforseen crits.

I've killed so many mechs from ammo explosions from backstabbing...

u/GamerGriffin548 House Marik 2d ago

Lucky for me. I... hardly... allow it. :3

Why not move the ammo in the arms to the torso sides with the CASE? An unlucky crit and you'll loose half your firepower. The MRM30 is a bit redundant with the RACs, it's tonnage is better spent on Autocannon FCS and a TTS(Assault).

Oops, forgot to move them to the torso. I honestly forgot. lol

That is glorious.

Thank you. King Crab builds are always spectacular.

I ran an Orion with a R/AC5 + MRM40+MRM10 combo and that dude did some serious work. It’s just so many shots down range that even mechs with evasion are going to take some hits and a couple AC shots to the torso of a light/medium can open the armor up to where the MRM’s pop off some ammo or shred the engine.

R/AC’s and MRM’s are like PB and Chocolate

The Orion can make for some very good builds in the vanilla version of the game.

Somehow it’s always the Orion that I get as my first heavy. Yeahhhh not always but statistically I somehow end up salvaging one and finally having a heavyweight in the team. It’s one of my favorites purely from BTAU nostalgia

I used it in Mech Warrior 3 a bit. So it's also Nostalgic to have 1 in my team. The lighter armored variant makes a better missile boat than the Archer in my opinion. Slightly faster even if it has less armor.

Lose the Heavy Plate. Ammo in the legs. Lose the MRM. Your RACs are decent distance weapons, along with the Laser, which could then gain a friend of the same: 2 x ER Lg Lasers, 2 x RAC5s, you've got a great long-range sniper. Drop the Myomer and go with DHSs, upgrade the engine to give you the extra pip of movement so it can keep up with the squad. Lose the CASE, of course. You could slam a Beagle Probe in there, also and with another two Heat Sinks you've got a negative heat Crab can lay down sniper and suppressive fire while keeping up with its teammates.
Giant Crab FTW.

Wher Apollo?

Personally I would swap the MRMs for LRMs so you can fire indirectly at long range, or SRMs so you have more up close protection.

But... lots of missiles!

u/Ok_Independence_9917 1d ago

But do you have a Bull Shark yet? Best assault mech in the game in my opinion

1

u/GamerGriffin548 House Marik 1d ago

haven't even seen one yet. lol

Get from one of the main story campaigns don't remember which, also requires heavy metal dlc

Best is bold, extremely good, yes. Lots of load out potential

Honestly, I just prefer something like Timberwolf with two RAC5 - WAY faster (and better survivability) with 7(with perk) evasion. Relative lack of firepower is negligible compared to mobility. But I usually prefer mechs that have 6+ evasion at any moment.

Just a small thing - you probably can move ammo to legs, usually it is way safer

3

u/GamerGriffin548 House Marik 2d ago

But... CRAB! Timby no Crab!

I've lost legs due to unlucky crits, no thank you.
