Fairly New Rider- What do I need to know to improve gas mileage? Maintenance and Ride Skills

I am a new rider and a used bike; a 2024 CB300R with just under 10k miles. I only put a few hundred on it myself. The internet says average city MPG is 60mpg but I tend to get 40-45 in the city. I am sure SF hills and stop signs are burning gas but I want to learn basic wrench skills and make sure I am taking care of her right.

My short list of maintenance is checking the spark plugs, air filter, and tire pressure. Are there other basic things that might be dragging the gas mileage down?

Are there any basic newbie riding mistakes I'm probably making in stop and go traffic or on the highway? Fuel economy or general.

I'm not trying to hypermile but being that much worse at fuel economy than specs seems like its telling me something.

Been dealing with some petty mess, finally came out to cover my bike someone bad parked their car into my exhaust not near INTO TILTING MY BIKE. I am located in the outer Richmond, and would be so grateful if anyone has extra space in their garage I can pay for to use around 22nd street near Clement and lake?

8/27/26 update:

FOUND.

Berkeley PD found it like a mile away at the homeless encampment parked near “a known motorcycle thief”.

Annoying part is that I have front and rear cameras on it so he tried to remove my seat and top box to get the memory card. He cut out the seat key cylinder … but couldn’t get it open, and neither can I. Gonna try with a coat hanger tomorrow.

Original post:

Please be on lookout if you’ve seen this bike around. License plate MRVLKDA

Stolen from West Berkeley; they cut the disc lock off and rode it off.

I had a hidden AirTag with the speaker removed and tracked it to this address but when I went there, I couldn’t find it. I couldn’t even find the AirTag itself, so it could possibly be in a shed/hidden and not able to ping the exact location.

My bike was stolen from 5th Avenue in SF last night, between 9pm and 9am.

I got home late, parked it and didn't want to cover it right away because it was hot and then this morning it was gone.... I already filed a police report but please if anyone sees it let me know. This was the motorcycle I learned to ride on and I am heartbroken over this.

If you have a black Triumph Scrambler 900 parked on Sansome in SF, it was towed, not stolen.

are there any community colleges that offer MSF courses?

Title . Basically I am looking into starting how to learn how to ride a motorcycle and honestly the cost is pretty steep to me ($425) and Ive heard in other states community colleges offer classes for lower cost. Also I am aware this hobby gets more expensive due to gear, registration, and the cost of the bike itself but i wanted to know if any local riders have any insight on different courses for possibly a lower cost. Thanks !

Looking to buy a 2011+ Suzuki GSX-R600 in the Bay Area.

Hi all, I’m looking for a clean title, no accidents, no crash or major drop history, and preferably a unmodified bike that’s been well maintained.
If you’re selling one or know someone who is, send me the year, mileage, asking price, location, and a few photos. I’m a serious buyer and can travel anywhere in the Bay Area for the right one! Thanks

Is there a good route from central SF to Pacifica on a 125CC bike/scooter?

TLDR: My friends live in Pacifica, I live near SF Civic Center. Is there a route that would allow me to use a very beginner bike while I save up for something better?

I'm a two weeks out from my MSF course and am squirrelling away money for a very entry level bike. I want something that can handle hills and get me to my friend's house in suburbia without having to ask them to pick me up on BART. I don't currently drive and moved here a few years ago so I'm just unclear on what my actual needs are.

I am also looking at 250cc to 500CC motorcycles too but I want to be really clear on my needs before I lay any money down. I also want to be super clear on what my monthly insurance costs could be before I buy anything.

Thanks!

Parking in SF Public Garages

I noticed that San Francisco municipal garages seem to have gotten rid of daily rates for MCs—last I recall, it was $8-10 for 24 hours in designated spots. Now it seems like the only option for us is monthly parking. That’s still a good deal, but I don’t need commute parking, I need a space for hitting an appointment or going to a shop and not pay SUV rates. When did this change, and how do we get SFMTA to bring back hourly or daily parking when there’s still too few dedicated street meters?

Just a few clips from my sunset ride through the hills last night. The colors were amazing, definitely made me feel lucky to live where I do and be able to ride and see all these beautiful things.

Swapping the bars on my dyna!

Hi yall! I recently got a new pair of bars for my 2016 dyna and am hoping to swap them over soon. I recently moved to San Francisco and do not have any tools or a garage here at the moment at my apartment. I was wondering if there would be anyone with tools willing to help me out with it! I am able to pay some money or something, but just want just don't to pay the insane hourly rates at the shops around here. The bars are similar height to what I currently have so I don't need to change cables or anything. Thank you!

Riding and making friends

Hey everyone! I'm 27M and pretty new to the Bay Area (Santa Clara). I don't know many people here yet, so I'm hoping to make some friends and connect with fellow riders.

I ride a Ninja 650 and would love to find a group to go on weekend rides with. If anyone knows a good subreddit, local riding group, or just wants to ride sometime, let me know!

Hope it's okay to post this here. Thanks!

Anyone with a motorcycle trailer/truck able to help in the City?

Hello ya’ll, im just a blue collar worker/student who has had their stolen motorcycle found. It probably won’t start (i did take a look and they seem to have really messed with the wiring) and i have until midnight to get it out. I do not have enough money to rent a truck/tow. I just need to get it from the sf impound on 7th to an area by inner sunset. I could offer some compensation but not much, basically to cover gas and like tacobell for ya.

Appreciate any help from ya’ll, its rough out here.
Thank ya.

Motorcycle gear shop alternatives to Cyclegear

Just wondering if there were different shops that carry other brands like Held for gloves or RST or Sidi

Edit: Primary looking in the San Jose area. But any suggestions that are slightly out of the way are welcome!

Finally bought my first bike

Been saving and buying my gear bit by bit, working two jobs and with a little help I finally got my first bike!!! I bought it Wednesday afternoon and already am at 180 miles. I’m obsessed, worth every cent I’m so so happy. If you see me around excuse my poor shifting. It feels surreal at this point bc I have been planning this for over a year and it now I finally have my bike.
