It’s funny to think that the family has similar “season” when they do the mating.
I was born in November, 9 months after Valentine’s Day for example lol

My husband and I went to a wedding and got drunk.
Guess what? Certain birth control is less effective when you're too drunk to use it correctly.
My last child was born 8 months and one day later. It was a little early.

I think that must be pretty biologically based. In my experience, it is very common in a whole family to have most birthdays centered around 1-2 months. My guess is that chance to concieve a child is pretty hereditary. Like, you can roll in the hay for months and then it just suddenly takes, so that the kid is born the season as the 90% of the family tree.
Edit: I want to add that if you look at national statistics of birth months, there is often a significant rise some months of the year. Like high birth rates spring and summer months in northern europe. And maybe monsoon season in south east asia? Haven't checked the latter but if anyone could, it would be fascinating to see if there's seasonal difference
23
u/adventureremily 3d ago
I've never met anyone who has a family birthday season in this way. My family, my husband's family, my friends' families - all spread throughout the year.
The only time I've known anyone with the same birth month/close dates in a single family were large families with 4+ children, which ups the odds significantly by virtue of just having more people and only 12 months in a year. 😂
→ More replies (2)3
u/Rubyhamster 3d ago
Yes, it could just be my "lucky" experience, and the families that are foremost in my mind are indeed families with 3+ children
9
u/iRedditPhone 3d ago
I don’t know that it’s biological. It can just be tied to certain dates or events that are already cyclical. For example, look up how many babies are born 9 months the after Valentine or New Years.
But in my family, a family of farmers, it sure looks like the babies were conceived after the harvest. Which checks out, no one has time during harvest season.
2
u/Rubyhamster 3d ago
Yes, if there's a genetic factor, it isn't the most determining factor, I'm sure. Like how many babies were concieved during the covid lockdown hehe
9
u/chyrchhella7 3d ago
Damn, you are right 90% of my family and my husband’s family were born in January-February My grandpa and I are the only summer babies in the family
2
u/Chivalry4Me 3d ago
Might be onto something here. I'm from a family of 5. Three of us have the same birth month, all clustered around the same day.
2
u/Rubyhamster 3d ago
Or your parents are just particularily frisky during certain months or happenings. For my part, my libido sure is tied to the seasons and yearly happenings. Like nothing is as stressful as celebrating christmas "vacation" hehe

Interesting, I wonder how common statistically. My kids are somewhat spread out. Although, my youngest 2 had the same due date but alas their birthdays are a month apart, in different seasons even, as one was born 2 weeks early and one 2 weeks late lol. Edited to add: I forgot my mom comes from a large family and most were born in Feb/March. Never really thought about it before.

I believe this chart is relative to the expected number born on a given day. The average is still 1/4 as many births compared to the average of every other day in the calendar.
4
u/toggl3d 3d ago edited 3d ago
The comments in that thread also point out, correctly, that it's not right.
People actually avoid the 29th, which is why you see slight bumps on the 28th and 1st.
Edit: I tracked down the source and it looks like he ended up removing the 29th in his tableau. He responded to someone saying they thought there would be fewer births on the Feb 29th and his response: There are, I just weighted the data based on how many times each day occurred. That may not have been the right choice!

Now that’s a double bummer. Everybody is always celebrating Christmas then, so it would never really be your birthday, even as an adult. Scrap this. It’s August 18th. I’ve always felt sorry for people who have a birthday at Christmas time… I’m glad it’s not the case here.

2
u/jackospades88 3d ago
While I will say having a Christmas birthday is probably the worst as a kid, having one right when school starts (or within the first week or two) does suck as a kid.
Not only does your birthday signal summer is ending and school is starting - you're also all in unfamiliar territory so birthdays at school aren't a thing yet. It takes the teachers and class a few weeks to get into a swing of things so regular birthday traditions the teacher has don't happen (from my experience).
The school year goes on, kids with October -May/June birthdays have their day. Sometime in Spring during someone else's birthday, all the Summer bday kids complain that they won't be in school for their birthdays, the teacher will have a day to celebrate all of their birthdays even though the snot-nosed brats should be lucky their bday falls on Summer break.
And then there are those of us with very-late August/Early-Sep birthdays who say "Hey, you all know my birthday fell on the 3rd day of school earlier this year? We were actually here but didn't do anything yet."

i like the optimism, and know im just being a downer, but the point of a birthday is to have a celebration centered around you
what if one of the kids wants to spend their birthday with quiet family time by a lake and the other wants a rager with all their friends over? if you have to celebrate 4 people at once, everyones individual nuances get lost and you just get a generic party
its not quite the same thing but i have two family members whose birthdays are dec 25th, and the sane one does not enjoy it (the 'quaint' one probably thinks it brings him closer to jesus or some shit)

Honestly im fairly certain that as a kid, it sucks. BIG TIME. Your Birthday being the one day thats all about you (even in their view) is something a lot of kids love and look back on fondly. Kids love it. Its part of a good childhood. Your day, your party, your friends, your family. Everyone making it all about you. Its one thing having to share it with a sibling (cant really talk to that) but i assume its not comparable to sharing it with someone else as its a more special bond.
However as you get older, i can see this being kinda great. Obviously speaking as someone who isn’t into big birthday celebrations (as i assume most in their 30s+ are), it kind of makes things easier. You can celebrate the day as a family. Less dates to remember, less stress in remembering what they got you for your birthday and so on.

I share one with my wife. While it was novel at first it isn't as cool as many people think it is. Ideally everyone gets their one special day a year but sharing your birthday takes that part of it away.
It is one of the few complaints I have in my marriage though. And this is an extremely minor complaint in the grand scheme of things.

As a mother who had a baby the day before her birthday, I didn’t care if I shared with the baby but I did care about being in labor or delivering on my birthday since childbirth absolutely sucks. I did worry it might make my kid feel bad to have to share though.

u/dave8814 3d ago
My mom had a difficult labor with my older brother. Once he was finally out and my mom had recovered she sent my dad home for the night. He didn't realize until he was pulling into the driveway that my brother was born on his birthday at like 1:15 in the morning. Throughout the 80s my dad was probably the oldest person having teenage mutant ninja turtles and transformers themed birthday parties so thats a plus.

My partners family all intentionally conceive so everyone's birthday is in the same month. Like genuinely 80% of the family is born in the same month across 3 generations. Including our two nephews, which I feel horrible about because they have a combined bday party even though they don't share the same birthDAY, they're a couple weeks apart. One of them is still a baby so I really try to focus on the older one the most, get the most presents and spend the most time with him, because I know it has got to SUCK - especially at this time when his younger brother is the cute new thing that everyone wants to ooo and aaa at.
The only reason, as far as I can tell, is convenience. It's insane to me.

This is horrible, he asked someone for a cigarette and then that resulted in him losing his life?
I don't live in America but that so sad and scary.
Is America really a reflection of Grand Theft Auto?
Ervin-Dozier, 33, tells PEOPLE her brother had left a local bar with his best friend in the early morning hours of Friday and had headed to the gas station.
There, she says — citing video footage — cameras show that her brother asked a group of people for a cigarette, which quickly escalated into a confrontation.
Ervin-Dozier says her brother backed away when he saw that a man in the group had a gun, but, she says, José was eventually shot a short distance away at the Dunkin’ Donuts.
In a phone interview Friday afternoon, Oct. 11, Ervin-Dozier said the family is still waiting for an arrest.
“He chased my brother down like he was prey,” she said of the shooter.
José was transported to Marymount Hospital, where he died at 3:34 a.m. on Oct. 4, according to his sister.

Not all of it or even most of it, but there are some really fucked up places here, poverty, gang violence, police violence, etc… I have personally seen some real shit and I have known people to die from violence. A good friend’s younger brother accidentally cut someone off, then he got run off the road and stabbed to death. The killer then went to a popular club and bragged about it. Thats how he was caught. He was just 18 and had graduated high school like 2 weeks prior. What a fucking world.

The more I've learned about what can happen during pregnancy the worse it gets. NEVER having children bruh 😭
2
u/FuzzyJury 3d ago
Lol it's really not that bad. I used to think the same way too. I'm now 39 weeks pregnant with Baby #3.
For all of my pregnancies so far, while yea being pregnant itself can be tough and same with postpartum recovery, I was always fully back to normal by a couple months postpartum at max. And I mean totally back, like lost all the weight too and was back to my old clothes again, no more residual pelvic pain or any such issues, etc.
The first pregnancy was harder for me to recover from physically, but still fine. I had some lingering pelvic pain for about 2-3 months. For my second pregnancy, I felt like my old self and totally pain-free by the end of the week after labor. I was back to doing daily walks around my block at that point - and my block loop is one mile long with 270 feet of elevation change, lol. But I felt so frustrated that I had to wait 6 weeks to fully resume all my favorite physical activities (because even if you feel fine, you have to give more rest time still for your uterus to heal)
For me, the toughest parts are the nausea - thank God for zofran - and later in the third trimester, I get really bad low back pain from SPD/PGP, but that's largely due to the fact that I have a pre-existing genetic connective tissue disorder.
Oddly, the easiest parts of both my pregnancies so far had been giving birth itself. From feeling contractions start at home until giving birth in the hospital, my first labor was 12 hours, but with under 10 minutes of pushing time since Baby came out on my second push round. For Baby #2, labor was a bit under 6 hours from feeling contractions at home to the hospital. Baby #2 also require basically no pushing - apparently the pushing phase took 12 minutes. C
Also, the epidural is great. The home and car contractions suck, but once you get to the hospital and they give it to you, you can chill and do whatever. My husband and I just listen to our favorite podcasts until it's push time.
Just sharing because I realize that everyone on the internet just posts negative things, basically because it's a private place to vent, or because the happier things will often have people accusing us of showing off it or something.
No worries at all about nur wanting kids m, totally get that and respect. I just feel for only seeing horror stories and everyone assuming that such stories are the norm.
