The one on top realized that you warm up faster if you get off the rock and onto a buddy, and even faster if you're barely touching your buddy's shell. This turtle has learned basic thermodynamics and will probably soon be hailed as a leader amongst their people.

A lot of reptiles spread out in the sun to kill fungal organisms in their body because they're cold blooded and more prone to this affliction. I'm no animal researcher, but they seem to be doing that.
