Question INSEPARABLE

Post image
105 Upvotes

Can anyone help me with my question? My Malinois never leaves my side. It’s not just when I’m working from home (which isn’t every day) — whenever I’m at home, he’s always following me around.

He constantly follows me from one room to another and is basically attached to me whenever I’m home.

Is this normal or healthy behavior? Should I do something about it or take any measures to encourage him to be more independent?

I’d really appreciate your advice and experiences. Thanks in advance, everyone!

Question Thinking of getting her a playmate

I was wondering if she should get her a playmate/sibling. I've always 2 of social animals together before but I obviously didnt want to overwhelm myself with her being mostly malinois. But we have a good routine that we could add a second to, and I think it would be good for her. Any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated.

Question Thoughts on a Malinois as a hunting dog?

My Mali is 5 months and is currently working on Obedience and protection. This is far fetched- my partner wants to teach him how to retrieve ducks and doves. While I think he is capable, he’d probably mangle the bird on the retrieve. Had anyone here attempted this? We thought we’d try training just for fun.

Question malinois pannus diagnosis

my dog katt was diagnosed with pannus yesterday and was put on neo-poly-dex eye drops that she needs 2x a day permanently. i noticed this blue haze in her eyes almost like cataracts but with no effect of her vision and blood shot eyes with a ton of eye boogers but here’s the thing.. she just turned 2 years old. has anyone else had this happen so young? if so what should i expect for her future? besides this she was 23ā€ 65 pounds. her blood work was normal, her heart was healthy, and her lungs sounded good.

Hi everyone! I volunteer walking dogs at the local shelter, saw this sweet pup, and just had to do a foster-to-adopt.

She’s under 3 months old and was surrendered simply for not being housebroken yet. We’re working on potty training and crate training, and she’s picking both up super fast! She’s an absolute Velcro dog and never leaves my side. Also I have ordered a DNA test, so awaiting results.

I’m looking for general advice and insight on her. Here’s how things are going at home:

Other Dogs: I have two older dogs. They get along fine, though I discovered today that high-value toys like soccer balls need to be put away to avoid tension. They also sleep separately without issue.

Cats: I have a 6-year-old cat and a 9-month-old kitten. She mostly ignores them, but if the kitten zooms past at Mach 5, her chase instinct kicks in. That said, as soon as the kitten turned around, hissed, and stood its ground, she backed off immediately.

I’d love to hear your thoughts or any tips for managing this age, breed tendencies, and multi-pet dynamics. Thanks in advance!

Question Belgium Malinois K-9

I have an odd request…

I’m wrapping up an anthology featuring stories from a wide range of professionals, including members of the military. One of the stories is about an EOD K9, and I would LOVE to include a photograph of one of these incredible, unsung heroes alongside the story.

If anyone here is a former K9 handler and has a photo of their Belgian Malinois, specifically (preferably in action, working, or posed in uniform) I’d love to hear from you! Ideally, the photo would be one you took yourself and have permission to publish.

If you know a former handler who might be interested, please tag them or send them my way! I’d love the opportunity to honor these incredible working dogs in the anthology. 🐾

Discussion I love my Mal more than anything

I’ve got a young mal who I adopted a while ago as a 7 week old puppy. I lost my first mal to old age a while ago , and never thought I’d love a dog more than my first one. And it’s not that I love this mal more or less, but it is hard to express in words how close this dog and I are. He goes everywhere with me, and always has. Work, gym, church , whatever it may be. If he can’t go in, I’m probably not going myself. We have spent many many hours in the park working on obedience day every day, but he is so smart it makes the work always fun and exciting , even on bad days. I wake up everyday and smile when I look over and see my mal, and I enjoy everyday with him . He’s the best friend I’ve ever had and really brings another meaning to life. I hate when people say they are just a dog , or act like dogs are less than people. My dog is family! He’s asleep behind me secured in my backseat right now. Actually snoring !

Question 4 Months female Malinois

Post image
148 Upvotes

Hey Everyone. So, i have this 4 months old named Kaya. She is lovely, but i need tips, since this is my first malinois.

So, about teaching her commands, usually she sits when i order her, shw gives kisses when i say too, basic things... But she is getting trouble accepting the "lay down" order and others too. EVERYTIME she sees me with FOOD, or even without, she jumps a lot against me. Like, she want to play, but when i show the food, she sits and waits till i give her.

I know that this race is a lot of ENERGETIC, and beside that i train / run a lot with her, but whan can i do to keep her more disciplined, and make her accept the lay down command for example?

Question First heat — did you notice GI/behavior changes in your Mal?

K-Line is going through her first heat right now, and since I've never had an intact female before, I'm learning as I go.

I've noticed she's been much more affectionate and needy, wants to stay close to me, and seems to be sniffing everything more than usual. Those behavioral changes don't really surprise me, but what I'm wondering about is the GI side of things.

She has had some GI issues in the past (loose stool, urgency, and sometimes squatting/straining after she's already gone), which I know can be an issue with Malinois. But since going into heat, I've noticed some of these bowel-movement issues again, particularly overnight.

Has anyone here gone through a first heat with their Malinois and noticed changes in bowel movements, loose stool, urgency, straining, or other GI issues?

If so, did you find that the heat seemed to make the GI problems worse or change their normal pattern? And what did you do about it?

I'd really like to hear from people who've actually experienced this with their Malinois. What was your experience, and did anything in particular help?

So in March we adopted this dog, wife called him the "the ugliest dog she ever seen" (she loved/s him is just a bully). Now almost 6 months forward he looks like this. His trainer always says that he acts 100% like a maligator and even looks like one (he owns 2). Do you, maligator connaisseurs, see any mali in him? We will do maybe a test some time, but is not that important, he is our handome boy now.
