Hi! My partner and I are traveling to BB next spring for a weekend of stargazing. We don't want to pay to check our reclining camp chairs. Looking at local gear rental sites I'm not seeing reclining camp chairs, so are looking to see if there are any local rentals or forums for stargazers to rent/borrow 2 reclining camp chairs? If this has been asked or there are already resources in the subreddit let me know!

So I've been hiking a lot, and I also enjoy 3d printing things. That has led me to this pic of Santa Elena Canyon. The last pic is of a hike I did up in Glacier national park (hidden Lake). I am also really proud of that pic of the Roadrunner. He posed for me for around 5 minutes, allowing me to make the best wildlife pics I've ever made. Hope you all enjoy.

I plan on making all the trips I've made in the last 8 years that I've been hiking and turning them into these. I've also given some to my friends who went with me, and made some for a friend and his boy scout troop of their hikes through the Appalachian trail. let me know if you'd like to see more of my topographical prints at Big Bend as I make them.

I'm thinking of going to Big Bend National Park this year for a few days during NYE but any suggestions on where to stay nearby? Also would love to do some fun cutesy dinners and cocktails in the evenings when we're not hiking if you have any suggestions!

We went in May, and absolutely loved it. I want to go back in December. We did not get to make a few notable trails, such as Ernst Tinaja, marsical mine, and old ore.

I have a 2wd Chevy Silverado, it’s bone stock with A/T tires. I went down grapevine hills trail to see balanced rock last time. Google and other people said the road was “challenging without 4x4 or impassable without it”. I managed to make it without 4x4. Actually a pretty nice road compared to the cutout west Texas roads in used to driving in the hill country.

Is my truck going to be good enough if I already know how to follow the road and not get stuck? Or should I not attempt? I assume winter is fairly dry there, at least I hope so because when we went it stormed every day.

Visiting for the first time the weekend before Thanksgiving and very excited! From the research I’ve done so far, it looks like Thanksgiving week/weekend itself is very crowded, but should we expect similar crowds the weekend before?
Really trying to see how early we need to arrive to trailheads for Lost Mine/South Rim for parking. Planning to get to Lost Mine for a sunrise hike, but does the Chisos Basin Visitor center parking lot for South Rim fill up as fast? Or would we be ok getting there around 8am?

Im not camping, have lodging booked in Terlingua, so i am gonna force myself to not do the longer trails this trip. Some of these trails are short enough to knock out in one day, so I would love to hear your recommendations as well!

Thinking I’ll take the gravel bike north to south down old maverick road on my next trip in November. I haven’t done this drive, or ride, yet. From what Ive read, looks pretty manageable (I mountain bike every day and have hiked in big bend dozens of times). Any watch outs out there I should be prepared for? Any cool sights I should check out?
Also: fuck the wall, of course.

Hey guys! Super excited to head back to Big Bend later this year. I was looking at backcountry site reservations and noticed that everything was only available for walk-up through October or already reserved.

Was there a change to the system in the past year? Not sure how to go about booking from here, or how some people have reservations already set through the end of October.

I'd like to do the OML once or maybe even twice in the "backpacking off season" this year. I live in Austin and it would be a good gear shake out and fitness test. Also, probably an awesome experience.

What would be the best fall through spring months to do it?
