Your online sewing pattern needs a test square

If I'm buying an online sewing pattern that I have to print and cut out, it needs one of those inch squares to make sure my printer is at the right settings. Just saying "oh use this specific printer setting" isn't enough because that specific setting isn't always right

I just cut out a pdf pattern that cost $2 and looks like the maker freehanded it with a pen and then scanned it and IT STILL had a test square. That's just basic

And it needs to be on the first or second page of the pdf. We shouldn't have to scroll through every page looking for it like some kind of treasure hunt.

I bought a Sewdirect PDF pattern and it didn't have one! I was expecting better from a company that established. I'd downloaded a free PDF pattern that had one so I printed that one to test instead, then just hoped it would work for the other pattern. Luckily it's a loose fit pattern so fingers crossed it should be okay.

Yeah, I'm working on a spandex bodysuit for Halloween right now which prompted this post. I'm just praying that it's close enough and that the spandex will be forgiving enough. I *did* buy enough fabric to make a mockup, but I never like having to make too dramatic of adjustments

Yes they do. And it's extremely easy to add a test square

I queried this once from a patternmaker/seller and she rudely tore strips off me, accusing me of being inexperienced and a pain in the ass for asking.

yeah, and it was very rare (as in, no one's sizing patterns Iike this), for plus size children

I have always had test squares on free patterns I have used. My gast has been flabbered. It is very important that you print to scale

My Mac is the only device that will print out a pattern accurately. I’ve tried my iPad, iPhone, chrome book, windows pc with different pdf viewers etc. drives me batty.
