The biggest reason why Mom said she didn’t want a repass lol. Her words exactly: “I don’t want people eating food on top of me.”

The last “memorial service” I attended was for an aunt. It was brutal to watch my family genuinely heartbroken at her passing, while her neighbors and friends seemed to more or less just be waiting for us to quit speaking about our memories of her and for the food line to be opened.
Fuck all of that. Those people there didn’t care about her at all. They just wanted free shrimp.
Jackasses.

This! I'm Jamaican so we usually have a nine night and then after we bury we do the celebration of life.
Remember when my granny died, we did a nine night and I never forget my cousins were walking around basically pouring the Wray because people come with their long han' and craven self. Then they were buggin' my uncle about setting up dominoes...bruh I'm burying my gran idgaf about your dominoes.
When my dad died and people were asking me "when is the nine night???" - I told them very bluntly I don't see any of you putting in money my pocket so don't tell me how to spend it. Of course, I did the celebration of life and made sure people were well catered for but they came with caucacity (not a typo they had that level of audacity) .

As someone from one of those cultures, nah. Funerals/burials used to be week long affairs and you had to provide food for whoever showed up. And some of them expected that food or there’d be quarrelling and accusations of disrespect. I remember my grandma died during COVID. Got her funeral done within a week but burial was a year later and it was a whole thing.
That’s why I’m making my will say cremate me and let that extra money go to the family left behind. If you want free food, sign up for rewards with your chain of choice

Its a homegoing, you gonna tell stories, you gonna eat, you gonna laugh. Crying is before and during the service, the after is to celebrate that persons life.
Ive been to a lot of funerals in my life, the moments after remain some if my fondest because of how our family could come together and joke, and laugh and remember our loved ones

My best friend passed almost 7 years ago and was cremated before the funeral. There was no repast directly after. The celebration of life was a few days later but there wasn't any dancing or anything. They had a big taco bar because he loved tacos. About 5 of us shared some memories. Then we all went to a nearby park and there was music but it was really just getting fucked up and trying to have a good time in his honor.

That's why it's called a Homecoming most of the time. It's a celebration.

Only if the person was old and died of natural causes, but if someone died tragically that would be crazy disrespectful to dance at the wake.

I would love for people to celebrate life on top of my grave. I see nothing wrong here.

As it should be. It’s a celebration of the life of the person you knew. It’s okay to grieve, but your loved one wants you to be happy!

No? Like pretty much every funeral I've been to that is mostly black attended is depressing and somber as fuck. Ain't nobody dancing eating ribs.
I'm starting to wonder if some of these posts are from non-black.people. the guy in the video is black, I guess that's something.

My american side of the family has quieter repass with music but no dancing but definitely making plates, my Jamaican side is making plates and carrying on on the dance floor

This is absolutely a common thing among black people. Are you actually black??
Though obviously the video is exaggerating
