Sales tactic. Make it a requirement to engage with a sales person just to know the price. Then you're given a sales pitch on the product. Obviously, frugal folks would be less likely to even engage, but some folks with money can be real susceptible to persuasion. They'll hear a high price but "the gentlemen on the phone was just so nice and enthusiastic!"
