There’s a legitimate reason for this: the company is selling a product below the agreed on MSRP and likely have a stipulation with the company that they cannot advertise below that.
It’s not for engagement baiting, although I’m sure some company does that, but there’s a legit reason for it, usually.
People bitch about this constantly, and I get it, but a little google search would have an explanation for them why the price is hidden.
The "legitimate reason" is the manufacturer wants to control the market. That is more of an explanation and "legitimate" is not a meaningful qualifier in this context since the gripe is from the consumer's side.
Manufacturers aren't required by any law to do this. It is a policy that's designed entirely by and for the manufacturer's benefit. I can't speak for everyone but as a consumer, I am more likely to avoid products that are advertised this way.
