The whole point is to take your time, encouraging you to continue down the sales funnel for fear of wasting your time by disengaging. It’s designed that way on purpose

I used to get reprimanded at 24 Hour Fitness for answering pricing inquiries over the phone. The "correct" process is to reserve a time to meet with the caller in the club, give them a tour, and go over pricing afterward based on information gleaned during the tour i.e. how long they are in the area, how often they visit, what types of workouts they do, what their goals are with a gym membership. Then we could recommend membership types and personal training plans.

I however thought this was annoying and skeezy, and I had the lowest sales numbers to show for it lol

Thank you for doing that. As a former sales person I also did this when it came to recommending upsells. My boss was always upset with me for identifying customers who would not benefit from more expensive products they weren’t going to use and recommending cost effective items instead. Ironically those same people would become repeat customers precisely because they appreciated the no-nonsense approach.

Managers are mostly entirely unable to comprehend second order impacts on sales revenue.
