To be honest with you, energy drinks. I just learned recently that Mormons mix energy drinks into everything instead of alcohol. So yes, mix energy drinks with sodas, with orange juices and etc.

I think technically the rule was originally about hot drinks, not caffeine.
But they drink hot chocolate. Which also has caffeine, so 🤷♀️ It's just loopholes all the way down.
Fun fact, Mormons aren't allowed to drink alcohol because Joseph Smith's wife got sick of him having all his Mormon buddies over and them all getting drunk, so instead of being like "we gotta cut back, boys" he was like AN ANGEL OF THE LORD HAS TOLD ME IN A REVELATION FROM GOD THAT MORMONS MUST NEVER AGAIN DRINK ALCOHOL. Because he was super normal and chill like that.

About the coffee and tea, the real reason was Joseph Smith was being petty because they were drinks women drank during social occasions. He did it in response to his wife Emma asking him and his guy friends to stop spitting tobacco on the floor like slobs.
ETA: also alcohol because the guys were getting wasted and Emma was fed up with it.

They can't drink tea or coffee because Doctrine and Covenants says no "hot drinks" which at the time meant tea and coffee. There is no rule against caffeine specifically. So hot decaf coffee = bad. Iced frappuccino = bad. Boba tea = bad. 10 red bulls mixed into Coke topped with coconut cream and nerds candy = holy and good

I think it was based on something. Not Mormon but remember the first guy I dated, I told him I didn't want to have sex because I didn't want to get pregnant and he kept begging to just put it in, not move around or anything. He was pretty persistent. Also, spoiler alert, teen boys beg you to do one thing and you might do it thinking they will stop bothering you but no, they always want more.

I'm not saying this IS what is going on, but that it miiiiight be what was going on:
I've gone to a number of black culture festivals where people of that culture present, educate, perform etc., and then they invite *everyone* to try participating (sometimes called workshop). I've never been put in garb, but it would have done the function a huge disservice to have videoed me botching something I didn't know how to do, and then the internet thinking that was the whole event. Of two hours it was maybe 20 min of practice and try. I also know that in places where there is a smaller black population (which is in itself an indicator of problematic shit) there are still people who want to support, and spread awareness of other cultures, and will be added to a black run music group to fill out their numbers.I always gotta look into any cultural specific groups that have white people in it to why there are white people, I used to just reject it, but now see how there are some instances of allyship that are doing their best to support their local community, and asked to do so by the cultural group.
That being said, it's still super cringe on it's own >.<

JK, just saw the other video and if def looks like a mormon missionary thing where they pat themselves on the back for having adopted the culture they studied to try to convert them.
Just did a bit more digging, this was hosted by JustServe volunteer program funded and ran by the church of latter day saints. So yeah, def mormons showing off their adopted cultural identities through the study of cultures they have to go be in while they try to convert the local population to the church (*cough* colonialism *cough*)
I did however find Afro Utah Festival which look like absolute fire!!

Thats Liberty Park; its the 'central park' of SLC, and is home to an Aviary, a bunch of people that sleep/sell drugs out of their vans/rvs during the day, volleyball tournaments, and Sunday drum circle that is a bunch of people doing drugs and trying to scrub the "Mormon" out of their souls – I promise you, that man on stage was 1 of maybe 7 ther there that day because the rest of us are keeping our mfin heads down while Patriot Front goes around putting up posters and actively recruiting in the SL Valley

“Twerking” is from New Orleans which retained substantial West African cultural influences despite slavery, and it originated from Mapouka, a dance/music tradition from Côte d’Ivoire that entered the Ivorian music scene in the early 1990s, during the rise of zouglou and the increasing influence of dancehall and hip-hop. Mapouka itself was controversial in Côte d’Ivoire and the government even banned it from public performances and television after complaints that it was sexually obscene and debased Ivorian cultural heritage.
Lupita Nyong’o is Luo, one of Kenya’s major ethnic groups. Côte d’Ivoire is over 3,000 miles away on the other side of the continent. Different peoples, languages, histories, political formations, musical traditions, and cultural trajectories. Kenya and Côte d’Ivoire aren't interchangeable any more than New York and Los Angeles are. Africa is a continent, not a country, and it is arguably the most culturally and genetically diverse continental landmass on Earth. Reducing thousands of peoples and radically different histories to a Marcus Garvey/Lion King cartoon version of “Africa” risks looking just as ignorant as these Mormon's are who are so sheltered they don't even realize how ridiculous they look.
