Women Black Women in Comic Book Movies/Series Appreciation Post

Momma Stewart was a Woman King episode three; she should have gotten a ring, uniform, and guardian position.

Actress Jasmine Cephas Jones ate the role up.

Hopefully, the rumors are right that she's the one to defeat Doom.

u/Tall_Act_5997 8h ago

Ahhhh I would be soooo happy bc she really is a cool character!!

2

u/GloomyLocation1259 9h ago

That would be cool

8

u/Green-Elephant-895 🖤 8h ago

She should be leading the Avengers with Sam

10

u/VastEmergency1000 7h ago

The right wing would burn the theaters down😂

We definitely need more Anna Diop, because dumbasses didn't let her fully embrace that Starfire role.

14

u/Fit-University1070 9h ago

She killed it too.

🔥🔥🔥

9

u/hdubfour 9h ago

I was lowkey hoping she would play Storm

3

u/Ambitious-Pirate-505 2h ago

I think she aged out of the role. But she had the presence of Storm....

And her gorgeous gorgeous skin...

6

u/darcmosch 7h ago

She deserved a better series. The whole cast did.

I'm hoping Simone Missick comes back on Daredevil 3 or if they continue Luke Cage

15

u/Von_Schlagel 9h ago

Same. She’s gorgeous, and Misty was just coming into her character/they were setting up Daughters of the Dragon.

Sasheer Zamata in Agatha All Along was a series stealer for me

12

u/Educational_Bet_7584 8h ago

There's rumors that she'll be in Ghost Rider

8

u/Shaggyforeman 7h ago

I hope so. Her character has some strong ties to ghost rider in the comics. She’s the ancestor (magically long lived) of two mainline Ghost Riders, Johnny and Danny. She’s also really good friends with Man-Thing.

2

u/Impossible_Bet_3986 5h ago

Would love this, definitely need Jen’s story to continue!

9

u/Digi_Dingo 8h ago

Sasheer always looks regal af

4

u/Impossible_Bet_3986 5h ago

Truly, she has a proper presence whenever on screen

4

u/YoshiTheDog420 7h ago

Sh really was. Im so glad she got the ending that she did.

3

u/Impossible_Bet_3986 5h ago

Her soaring off was stunning, was really beautifully shot

3

u/YoshiTheDog420 5h ago

I finally got my wife to watch the series and she was already tearing up after Jennifer realized she was free, but then when she flew off my wife began to cry. It was a gorgeous shot. It hit me all over again too.

I was thirsting. This looks does something wonderful...

4

u/BiggieCheddarCheez80 8h ago

I feel like she was the show. I love Cress Williams, but Nafessa Williams ate.

Deserves her series.

And it's BS that Warner Bros canned it.

44

u/DLottchula 10h ago

You know she did a good job because people really dislike her character.

13

u/BiggieCheddarCheez80 10h ago

Right.

I was gagging at the apple on the head scene.

She gave the look of, "You bet not miss either."

7

u/Historical-Being-766 7h ago edited 7h ago

It depends why they dislike her, though. Is it because of her actions or because they're racist who hate when Black people talk about our lived experience?

8

u/DLottchula 7h ago

I'm ignoring the latter crew. But her actions is genuinely crazy but she did meet an alien and got a big ass diamond.

5

u/Historical-Being-766 7h ago

A recruiter came to her house and said her infant son had a chance to go to the league. After that, his childhood was cooked.

3

u/GardenStateKing 🤟🏾🤟🏽🤟🏿 7h ago

People do crazy things out of love for their children, for better or worse. Me though? Alien changes in front of me? Says my kid can be the protector of the planet? I would be lying if I said I didn't want that for them.

3

u/BowlingforBrains 5h ago

I can say that I hate her because of her actions 😂 but I gotta admit, that means she did a good job!

It’s one of those scenarios where she feels redeemed for the awful things she did because she knows she still loves him and feels she had a good reason - but A LOT of abusive parents ironically think that way, and John still felt the trauma as a child.

14

u/RamenNoodleNoose 7h ago

Regina King killed it in Watchmen

6

u/BiggieCheddarCheez80 7h ago

Sister Night was the Show. .

3

u/jpxzer0 7h ago

This was one of my favorites by far. I was blown away by this show

1

u/Ok-Dinner1727 1h ago

I was gonna flip if she hadn’t already been posted !

11

u/EnigmaticX68 10h ago

Just became that guy.... I had to submit multiple emails to a website because their article listed her as Nicole Ari Parker lol

4

u/imjealousofyou 10h ago

Nicole was supposed to play mom in present day, but that was Jasmine under all that makeup.

1

u/EnigmaticX68 4h ago

So I'm not crazy and that's not Nicole Ari Parker right?? Like at all in this episode??

Because I just saw two more articles where Ms Cephas Jones isn't credited

9

u/YoshiTheDog420 7h ago edited 7h ago

Flora, from “I’m a Virgo”

23

u/Typical_Piece_7106 10h ago

She's black yall this is her father

2

u/dogbonej 7h ago edited 7h ago

BUBBLES????

Edit: nope

5

u/Madman_Salvo 7h ago

Nah, Ron Cephas Jones was Bobby Fish in Luke Cage.

Bubbles is Andre Royo.

5

u/Imaginary-Fondant979 9h ago

My favorite episode so far.

4

u/bvanbove25 9h ago

She nailed the part.

Also, it's Stewart. Don't want the trolls jumping all over you for misspelling a name.

2

u/BiggieCheddarCheez80 9h ago

Thanks for the save...

😅😅😅

4

u/OGBIGBOY 8h ago

5

u/Green-Elephant-895 🖤 8h ago

If Joe Jackson was a woman 😅 she’s one of my favorite characters thus far

4

u/Snackdoc189 2h ago

Alfie Woodard as Black Mariah in Luke Cage.

1

u/JustAMinah 1h ago

and voiced mimi in moon girl!

8

u/BiggieCheddarCheez80 7h ago

I'm going to add N'Bushe Wright from Blade as well.

1

u/IcyProperty89 6h ago

Hell yeah. Terrible pic but yeah she was fire

3

u/cameronpark89 9h ago

i was thoroughly confused lol

2

u/Desperate-Ad1735 9h ago

no forreal who is this actress and how can we make sure she gets an emmy nomination for her work on that episode

2

u/Typical_Piece_7106 7h ago

Her name's Jasmine Cephas Jones and she actually already has an Emmy

1

u/Desperate-Ad1735 6h ago

well she should get one for lanterns and nicholson

2

u/PuzzleheadedPart196 7h ago

Jo Mullein DOES exist; just saying if they want to spiritually transfer her over for a future season or something

2

u/EnigmaticX68 4h ago

Posting again because apparently a lot of so-called "article" writers can't do a cursory Google search.... I just had to submit to IGN. What did Jasmine Cephas Jones do to get no recognition?? Lol

2

u/Pandoratastic 4h ago

Ruth Negga as Raina in Agents of SHIELD

3

u/Snackdoc189 2h ago

She was great. That show had me hooked for the first few seasons.

2

u/Pandoratastic 2h ago

Wasn't she? And she had a really strong and wide ranging character arc. I wish we had seen more of her in later seasons.

2

u/StatementMediocre710 2h ago

Lanterns putting up 3/3 good episodes so far 🫡

2

u/JustAMinah 58m ago

she voiced our moon girl!

Hated her guts watching that 3rd episode

u/kidkuro 9h ago

She's a bad mom, but she fine though.

Squinting

Black?

14

u/Left_Cod_7174 10h ago

Squint a little harder

17

u/FujiOga 10h ago

I mean, black can come in various shades whether or not they have mixed heritage.

17

u/DLottchula 10h ago

She's definitely black

1

u/Unapologetic_91 8h ago

Why are the comments getting removed? If she’s biracial that’s what it is. She’s biracial.

1

u/Wolfeatingupshadows 🫰🏾🫰🏽🫰🏿 5h ago

Removed?

-1

u/Typical_Piece_7106 6h ago

She calls herself a black woman though. If she calls herself black, shes black imo

1

u/NecroCannon 8h ago

Couldn’t this just be a post about appreciating black people in comic movies and shows instead of a single actress?

I’d love to share the rest of this comment, but this sub doesn’t allow for actual nuanced discussion of things for some reason so now I just sound like I’m whining

6

u/VastEmergency1000 7h ago

Are you reading the comments? It's a black women in comics appreciation post.

4

u/BiggieCheddarCheez80 7h ago

Right. Like we are literally adding Black Women from different movies/series in Comic Book Movies

-3

u/NecroCannon 5h ago

We have tons of those. Why keep being specific on the appreciation when we’re all struggling and facing issues? Being a black creator myself and having to do the research into these spaces, I’m coming up very short with black men for some weird reason and it’s an issue constantly talked about in black men spaces while when I go to black women spaces there’s the assumption that they’re not appreciated

It’s like sitting outside of couples who argue non-stop instead of bringing these feelings directly to eachother, using these spaces

2

u/BiggieCheddarCheez80 5h ago

So would your day be better if we did a Black Men in Comic Book Movies and Series?

-1

u/NecroCannon 5h ago

I’m sorry that you’re so weird about things that you get that from mentioning“everyone”

2

u/BiggieCheddarCheez80 5h ago

No weirdness at all.

How come you didn't start your own post that's similar?

Is that if "everyone" is important

-1

u/NecroCannon 4h ago

I started my own business with art and animation purely for creating visibility for different areas of the black community in media

Like I said. You guys don’t do much to help the issue. Irl Hispanic people are way more helpful for my cause than anything I see on social media because it’s like we want to be whipped by society as an excuse with a lot of us.

So what have YOU done?

3

u/BiggieCheddarCheez80 4h ago

I think you are taking a post that was "Flaired" for Black Women Appreciation and making it about you.

And it's cool, but you're being a victim in this thread of your own creation.

And this is a Black People of Reddit, not Hispanic People of Reddit thread, so, I don't know why you are building an unnecessary hill to die on, but hey, whatever floats your boat.

0

u/NecroCannon 4h ago

I think that you’re thinking I’m making this about me when you keep replying, having me put more of my own opinions into this

You’re free to walk away like a mature adult if I’m the problem lol

2

u/BiggieCheddarCheez80 4h ago

So out of all that you still didn't post a link, portfolio, or name of your business.

→ More replies (0)

2

u/BiggieCheddarCheez80 4h ago

Also, in stead of dragging down the thread, you could post a website, a portfolio link, or something that would allow folks to know more about your art and business.

Instead you're here saying we're not being inclusive enough for you.

1

u/VastEmergency1000 4h ago

I'm genuinely confused what you're upset about with this post. I don't understand at all the point you're trying to make or what you're specifically asking for instead of this post.

1

u/JustAMinah 1h ago

"it's not fair black women in comics are being appreciated. I'm a black male creator and in the spaces I'm in, black men always showing how they appreciate black women but the black women who know their experiences are obviously wrong on it, because they think otherwise and not appreciating the crumbs getting thrown at them. soooo how can I make a post about black women, about me/all lives matter? at least I make content that hispanics appreciate more than anyone else. what have you done? I'm just demanding others to shown content I wanna see instead of just making my own post."

-1

u/Expensive_Banana3002 5h ago

This is Hollywood's version of black. Not discrediting her blackness at all, but this is definitely media's version of what they see as black. No chocolate or melanin unless of course, it comes with a British accent. That's just how I feel.

-2

u/Nanou_07 5h ago

Yall keep point out her father only. Is she mixed?

Because that’s the vibe I’m getting. If that’s the case she isn’t a lightskin, just mixed.

u/charlesmaree 10h ago
