Question Using a HAMMER to STRAIGHTEN a blade? 🔨🔪 It may look aggressive, but there’s technique behind it. In this video, I show how I correct blade warping and, at the end, the finished knife.

Here's another one that's out the door. Used 80CRV2 and natural micarta for this one with a little bit of a different rock texturing on the handle.
Let me know what you think!
Thanks for looking!

Question Any way to protect my blade from corrosion?

Hi smiths, I am a total novice. I bought this old Japanese utility knife on eBay and love it. Its edge retention and cutting performance are amazing! I assume it’s made of some kind of carbon steel. It’s extremely sensitive to acidic foods, some alliums and starchy veg and sometimes leaves a metallic residue on food.

Is there some king of permanent or at least long lasting way to protect or maybe put some kind of finish on the blade? I tried a patina with coffee but that only helped for a couple weeks.

Or is this just a proper maintenance situation?

First Forging Second go at forging out a RR spike knife. Learned some things from the first go at one that allowed me to stretch the blade out a bit more. Now to figure out proper beveling technique.

Biggest thing I came to realize was that my lowest grit belt was 60 grit. I just received a pack of 36 grit belts so hopefully that helps get my shaping and beveling a little more pronounced and efficient.

While making the M1902 Sabre, i needed a Chisel for the guard. I moved my shop in Nov of 2025 and it was easier make another than simply finding the one I already had.

These are made from farriers rasps, as far as high carbon steel knives go would these be fine for kitchen use once fully finished? Top blade is 7 inches of cutting edge and the bottom blade is 8.5 inches of cutting edge.

Question Fix engraving?

Post image

Just received a knife from Italy. The knife itself is beautiful. They asked me, last minute, if I want anything engraved. I stupidly said yes. I'm pretty sure the salesperson did it and not a competent smith. It's pretty horrible. It's quite shallow. Any smiths in the NJ/PA area that can fix this and engrave it properly?

Question Tree bark turning carbon steel black. The product I’m using is called tannin powder, a substance extracted from plant materials such as tree bark. It reacts with carbon steel and helps create this dark finish on the surface.

Forging WIP Twist Damascus billet for a Bowie

Not my shop and not my hammer. Diogo specializes in twist Damascus and he's forging the blade for a Bowie we're doing together — this is his video, sent while the billet was still under the press.

Welding heat, drawn to square, twisted, flattened. Scale piles up under the dies with every pass. Looks like a plain glowing bar right now; the pattern only turns up after grinding and etch.
