Emerald Ash Borer Information

The emerald ash borer has been confirmed to be in Washington state, spotted in the Vancouver area. Quarantining is one of the easiest ways to slow/stop the spread of this invasive insect. Never move firewood outside of where you plan on using it, so buy hyper-local.

Voter and Election Information For Bremerton (and Kitsap County)

Date of Election: November 3rd, 2026

Washington state is a vote by mail state. But you can still vote in person if you need to. In person voting is generally designated for new voters, but can be utilized by anyone. The Secretary of State has a PDF that outlines the entire process: https://www.sos.wa.gov/sites/default/files/2022-05/wa_vbm.pdf information provided by Kitsap County: https://www.kitsap.gov/auditor/Documents/Vote%20Centers%20Feb%202025.pdf

How to vote by mail:

Ballots are mailed at least 18 days prior to the election to the address on your voter registration. It does not need to be a house, you can have these mailed to a Post Office Box. But you'll still receive the correct ballot to where you live, not your mailing address. (For example: You live in Bremerton, but have a PO Box in Belfair, you won't receive a Mason county ballot, but a Kitsap County and Bremerton ballot.)

How to get your ballot counted:

You need to either mail the ballot, or utilize a ballot drop box located throughout Kitsap County. A full list is available here (PDF): https://www.kitsap.gov/auditor/Documents/Drop%20Boxes.pdf

Ballot drops open 18 days before an election, and are available to use 24 hours a day. Ballots must be dropped by 8 PM on election day. Due to changes to the USPS by the current presidential administration, mailed ballots should be mailed out a week in advance.

How to vote in person:

If you are registered you'll want to bring the ballot mailed to you. It is the same one that you'll receive onsite, and will help speed the voting process for everyone. Hours are listed here:

Primaries, General Elections and Presidential Primaries:
* Saturday and Monday before the Primary or General Election, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
* Election Day: Tuesday, 7 a.m. - 8 p.m.

Locations:

Kitsap County Administration Building
619 Division Street,
Port Orchard, 98366

Marvin Williams Recreation Center
725 Park Avenue
Bremerton, WA 98337

911 NE Liberty Road
Poulsbo, WA, 98370

Once you've voted:

You can track your ballot at votewa.gov You can see when your ballot was mailed, received, accepted or challanged. You can also text "VOTE" to 868392 to get alerts via SMS

Do you need to register?

You can register online here: https://voter.votewa.gov/portal2023/login.aspx

Print off registration forms here: https://www.sos.wa.gov/elections/voters/voter-registration/print-voter-registration-form

YSK: Bremerton local government has been selling us out to Sound West Group. They own $650M worth of real estate in the Puget Sound, and have been getting massive tax breaks to where they're paying next to nothing, or sometimes even literally nothing.

If you own a home in Bremerton, you're probably paying more in property taxes than a $650M real-estate conglomerate.

So much of our area is owned by the Sound West Group. SWG Holdings LLC

They advertise that they own 650M dollars of real estate on the Puget Sound, and they're rapidly growing

One of the Senior Vice Presidents is on our city planning commission. Jack Paauw

Sound West Group has been receiving massive tax breaks on these over priced apartments that they're popping up everywhere

Like the SpyGlass Hill apartments. They have this listed as a $20M project

for a 572 sqft apartment, it's 1900 per month

600$ deposit for a single pet, only half of it refundable

30/month pet rent

85 - 135 month parking. With the only option currently available being the 135/month

400$ combined reservation+application fees

1000$ security deposit

They own several other apartment complexes around town, and they're all similarly priced

The assessed property tax value for the above mentioned apartments is 200k. And they pay 1700/annually in property taxes

For reference, my house is 479k assessed value, and I pay about 4200 in taxes. (this seems around what a lot of Bremerton home owners pay)

Sound West Group also has several building with a zero'd out property value, and they pay 0 dollars in taxes on these properties

proofs: https://psearch.kitsap.gov/pdetails/Details?page=taxassessments&parcel=2583417 - Spyglass Hill apartments (20M Dollar build)

https://psearch.kitsap.gov/pdetails/Details?page=taxassessments&parcel=1426725 - B-flats Loft apartments, for some reason listed as only 183k in property value

https://psearch.kitsap.gov/pdetails/Details?page=taxassessments&parcel=2661890 - Kitsap Marina condos in downtown bremerton. Marked at 0 dollars property value and 0 dollars owed

Sound West Group pays 0$ tax on the Roxy Theater https://psearch.kitsap.gov/pdetails/Details?page=taxassessments&parcel=1426675

If this resonates with you, please email the mayor and city council. Any attendance at the council session would also be much appreciated, with the goal of pressuring the city government to remove Senior Vice President of Sound West Group from the city planning commission, or at least pressuring them as to why they keep getting massive tax breaks, but they're building tinier apartments that cost more and more. The next meeting is Wednesday at 5PM.

Edited for clarity.

These are the contact emails provided on the city website.

Could anyone assist me in, Few things ?

I am reaching out to our community as I work on rebuilding our lives. My three daughters and I recently got out of a domestic violence situation and are starting fresh. With school starting back up, funds are extremely tight, and I am trying to make sure they have the basic essentials to succeed.
If anyone has spare school supplies or gently used clothes sitting around from last year that you are looking to get rid of, any help would mean the world to us.

Specific items we need:
3-Ring Binders (1-inch or 2-inch)
2-Pocket Folders
College-Ruled Notebooks & loose-leaf college-ruled paper
Girls/Youth & Teen Clothing (gently used tops, pants, or school clothes from last year)

working laptop or tablet for homework/school portals if anyone happens to have a spare or old device they no longer use

I am happy to meet in a safe, public
spot locally for pickup, or I can share an Amazon Wishlist if anyone prefers that route.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, and for any support, guidance, or kindness you can share!

Recommendations for a house cleaner?

I’m closing on a house in Bremerton in the next couple of weeks and need a cleaner to help us take care of the kitchen and 2 bathrooms before we move in. I’m talking deep cleaning so that we can focus on working on other aspects of the house before we move in. The current owners are not clean people. Any recommendations? Hopefully on the budget friendly side but I’ve never hired a cleaner so I don’t know what a fair price for this would look like.

Anyone know why the staff at Gamer’s Keep walked?

Just saw the post from Blue Sky that the whole kitchen and bar staff walked. Anyone know why?

EDIT: from the Gamer’s Keep Facebook

“Sadly today our entire bar and kitchen staff decided to walk off the job without any notice or clear explanation. We had been going through some changes in the kitchen in order to improve the service and quality of our menu items, but I think there were some other personality issues that played into the walk-off.

While we saddened by their decision, and will miss them we will be working to keep the Tavern functioning to support our gaming community. Over the next week or two the Tavern will be operating under reduced hours and a more limited menu as we train up our new staff.

Please be patient with us and we look forward to hearing any suggestions you might have in order to better serve everyone. We will keep you posted, so stay tuned!”

Where are long term camper living places

My Husband and I are moving to Bremerton since he got stationed there for the Navy. Since, the cost of apartment living seems so expensive we are looking at campers to live in long term. I haven’t found any good campgrounds and wonder if anyone else knows where we should look.
And also the pros and cons of living in a camper/RV.
Not 100% sure if we are going to follow through, but it seems to be a better option right now (money wise).

Hello all,

I've noticed there's not much on reddit for actual dating. So I created one: Kitsap BBW dating. Just wanted to share in case people were interested.

Have a good day!

But what if I WANT to get kidnapped by the fae?

Has anyone seen any mushroom circles in odd places? Unusually whimsical people (even by Bremerton standards) speaking in slightly coherent nonsense and overly interested in knowing strangers' names?

There's going to be a lunar eclipse tonight, so I feel like this is the perfect time to deliberately fall for a fae trap.....

Mostly, I'm just trying to permanently get rid of my gender, and this seems the most proper and easy way.

Volunteers needed to help bake cakes and other treats for local foster youth

Hey Bremerton!

I'm the Volunteer Coordinator for Cake4Kids, a non-profit organization that helps provide volunteer created birthday cakes (and other treats) for foster children and kids who otherwise would not be able to receive something for their special occasion, and we have a local chapter in Western Washington that serves Bremerton and Kitsap County.  Since starting in 2020, the local chapter has delivered over 1500 cakes, and this year we are projected to deliver over 700 cakes to youth along the Olympic Peninsula.

https://www.cake4kids.org/chapters/westernwashington

I’m reaching out because there is a growing need for our services, and we are desperately seeking more volunteer bakers who can help us meet this increased demand.  Many of our local bakers are getting older (and also don’t use reddit), and we have struggled to get the word out about our volunteer opportunities as much as we would like to in this specific geographic area.

I myself am not from the Bremerton area - we have over 80 local volunteers in the area - but I am reaching out in hopes that there may be some folks here interested in helping us meet this increased demand so that we don't have to limit the number of orders our partner agencies submit.

You can sign up as a volunteer here: https://www.cake4kids.org/volunteer-form and I'm happy to answer any questions you might have as well. Thanks so much for your time!

-Jeff

New camera at 6th and Callow.

Drove through today and saw what looked like a Bremerton city employee putting up a camera. Haven't seen anything like it before. He was unboxing it from a gray case with a city of Bremerton logo sticker on it. It's on its own pole mounted to the utility pole on the corner outside Bucky's. It didn't look like the Flock cameras I've seen photos of. It's much smaller and was set up very high on a telescoping thin pole pointed into the intersection.

Anyone know what this is? Seems like an odd setup considering they could just mount a camera directly to to the utility pole or traffic lights.

Propaganda I received from PSE, they are doing their best to save face since people want to replace them for price gouging.

Outta State Onlooker, Wanting to Move

I'm currently staying in Oklahoma with a friend due to having been kicked out of my home. I'm originally from Kentucky and had visited Bremerton earlier this year and decided I wanted to move there. However, due to current life circumstances I have to build myself back up.

As of late, I have been working for an airline and have learned that I can transfer to the Sea-Tac airport. Issue is that I really would like to branch into working on the ferries but have no clue where I'd even begin besides getting my TWIC and MMC documents created.

Furthermore, I have no clue how much money I should save up before trying to move or if I should just live out of my beat-up car and work at Sea-Tac until I can get a permanent address.

Any helpful advice would be appreciated!

Any Restaurants Serving Gazpacho Right Now?

Summer is almost over, and I haven't had a reasonable excuse for gazpacho this year. Not currently able to use my own kitchen to make a proper gazpacho at home due to current produce quality circumstances.

If I don't taste gazpacho soon, I am in danger of exploding and taking half of Downtown with me. And NOBODY wants that.

Who to contact regarding cuts in fast ferry service?

Hi everyone,

Like many of you, I will be affected by the upcoming 35% reduction in fast ferry service come end of this month. I love living here in Kitsap County, but it will be unsustainable for me long term without the regular fast ferry service (and auto ferry service, for that matter).

Which legislators/groups are best to contact to advocate for increased funding? I’m not sure who at the county/state/federal level is contributing to this decision, and I think we need to make our voices heard!

Anyone inundated with pest control salesmen this summer?

I’ve had three so far… all young dudes maybe 20. All with the exact same script… who do i use for pest control? Then throwing out names of supposed neighbors supposedly using them that I’ve never heard of, all the while ignoring my No Soliciting sign. Annoying AF!
