Ok... so?
His job is not to appeal to everyone.
His "job" is to find someone who will share his idea of happiness.
Again, this is the one message this sub sends that's actually valid to the men it sends it to - your job isn't to appeal to every woman, and women are actually being way more honest about what they want and don't want than men. You are now actively shitting on this person for not appealing to the least common denominator woman and instead... doing his thing trying to attract someone who vibes with who he wants to be.
All the power to this man.

2
u/CraisinEnjoyer 14h ago
This appears to be "cocking a snook" rather than making a pig nose. I interpreted it as just being a stupid attempt at general humor, not an insult to OP.
8
u/kilawolf 14h ago
So I looked up what that is - the description doesn't match as the nose isn't raised and not sure how that's better.
Thumbing one's nose, also known as cocking a snook,[1] is a sign of derision, disrespect, contempt, or defiance, made by putting the thumb on the nose, holding the palm open and perpendicular to the face, and wiggling the remaining fingers.
4
u/CraisinEnjoyer 14h ago
I don't think the nose being raised matters as much as what he's doing with his hand. If I were to do a pig nose I'd do it with my index finger, not my thumb.
And while yes, that is the definition, it hasn't been interpreted that way in a century. Kind of like how people will do the middle finger in pictures, it's just in a joking way rather than to actually insult someone. It may not be your sense of humor but it's very clear that the intent is not malicious in cases like that, so that is what my assumption is for this case.
Biggest thing is just not assuming the worst in people. I think we as a society would be better off if we just stopped doing that.
1
u/Albino_Neutrino 13h ago
Yah, it baffles me how everyone has suddenly assumed the absolute worst.
5
u/SugarBeefs 13h ago
This is the internet in 2026, some people feel the need to outrage-maxx everything. Everything has to be read in the most uncharitable interpretation possible.
-1
u/Albino_Neutrino 14h ago
Without further context, the pic appears to be a childish - and, really pushing it, perhaps (???) inadequate - attempt at humour. It doesn't have to be everyone's cup of tea but trying to read anything else into it is frankly farfetched. If anything, it seems to me this is a rather innocent way for the guy to weed out people he wouldn't vibe with on the grounds of his specific flavour of humour.

u/throwawayanylogic 14h ago
It's not just a "weird face", it's a pig nose. Have you lived under a rock your entire life to not understand how that's meant to insult a woman?
1
u/CraisinEnjoyer 14h ago
Look up "cocking a snook". I interpreted it as that rather than a pig nose. Just a general humorous hand sign, not a pig nose at OP.
→ More replies (1)0
u/Albino_Neutrino 13h ago
I've been immersed in a number of cultures throughout my life and I have never, ever heard of a "pig nose" gesture being used to insult women specifically. I'm not denying this could be a thing where you're from but no, the rest of us haven't been living under a rock precisely. With all due respect, assuming that a gesture which comes off as insulting wherever you're from is insulting everywhere else too might suggest it is someone else who has been living under a rock - but hey, I don't want to assume stuff for free.
7
u/TheLimpingNinja 12h ago
Youāre either arguing in bad faith or just ignorant then. Iāve been immersed in a number of cultures, have citizenship in multiple countries as a result and in almost all of them making pig nose faces at someone is insulting. Itās almost universally recognizable gesture of childish derision, contempt, disrespect, or mocking.
It may not be a contemporary insult in some cultures (Japanese, for example) but even then is often recognized as an insulting and derogatory gesture.
Your argument shows the disingenuous false understanding, itās clear from context this message was an opener to a woman and the person you are responding to used the words āinsult a womanā that you conveniently changed to āwomen specificallyā so you could pin the narrative around that. Opening a message like this, even free from context or the recipients personal looks, would be considered rude at the least.
→ More replies (1)-4
u/Gloomy_Specific_111 12h ago edited 11h ago
Really classy of you to answer, accuse me of all kinds of stuff and block me. Good thing I have two accounts.
Your message and your approach are much ruder than the guy's opening pic, yet you aren't going to beat yourself over it as much as you are all collectively thrashing him.
I'm neither arguing in bad faith nor ignorant. I don't care about your multiple citizenships - many of the most culturally obtuse people I've met had two or more citizenships, so that doesn't mean much. You can pass through a place on paper and have the place not pass through you, as we say in my country.
In my social circles, which encompass all kinds of races, citizenships, genders, incomes and educational levels, any functional adult would interpret his opening pic in a dating app which allows for screenshots that can get him into trouble as a (goofy, funny, pathetic, ... you name it because you're entitled to your opinion) attempt at humour and provoking some form of relaxed and goofy engagement, NOT as an insult.
There is no "disingenuous false understanding" in my take of the previous poster's message - the way the sentence is phrased, mine is a possible (dare I say the most natural) reading made in good faith. If you disagree with my reading of it and really think you're right, ask the other user to rephrase it - I'll be happy to revise my opinion. But someone as utterly rude as you is in no position to call me disingenuous or call me out on arguing in bad faith. I think the bad faith side has become rather clear the moment you didn't allow me to defend myself.
As I've said elsewhere, I'd be more than happy to get an opening pic like this from a woman, and there are plenty of women here who've stated they would interact, claiming it shows personality. As I've said elsewhere as well, you're free to dislike the approach, but it's a mistake to project one's worst fears and moral judgements onto something as pathetically innocuous as this opening pic or small things we don't like (cough reverse halo effect cough).

I stand behind this sans the name-calling.
People on Reddit really like acting all enlightened about how the world works and doesn't only to become really uncharitable and judgemental when it comes to others acting slightly weird-ish in specific situations. You don't have to like everything other people do, but assuming the worst when someone deviates from the norm is... well, uncharitable and judgemental.
For the record, if a woman sent me something like this I'd find it rather funny and engaging - much better than the "hi"s, the "wbu"s or the ghosting.

Seeing some of the hoops some of these people jumped through to justify their hatred of a random man is inane.
A whole lot of "he's doing this or that and it makes him an incel." These people want to point out the dude is being immature, but I'd make a counterpoint saying these people are the ones being immature. A picture is worth a 1000 words and it seems like all these people heard from those words is negativity.
Like, I get it if you're a "serious" person and this turns you off. Just unmatch and move on to the next super cereal person. You'll find your lame eventually. No need to blast a random on the internet because they sent you a silly face.
I shouldn't be surprised though. The amount of garbage from women in my local "spill the tea" group has been rather eye opening.
I wouldn't be surprised if I'm called an incel after my few comments here. It seems to be par for the course.
E: after seeing more of the discourse in this thread I completely understand why many of y'all are still single.

its cringe but idk why people are saying its weird,
whats weird is creating a dating app where woman are suppose to message first, then change it cause women don't want to do that, then complain when you get cringey first messages from socially awkward weirdos, what were you expecting ? a guy who doesn't need to use dating apps to date, to be on the app ?

Thereās plenty of normal guys on the apps. Most guys do not open making a pig nose

To anyone who gives the dating advice "just be yourself", try to recall the reactions this guy gets here.

No, by making a funny face. Not everything is done with ill intent

You are either disingenuous or have the IQ of a pulp if you genuinely believe that gesture on a dating app to a woman youāve never talked to before isnāt rude

Looks like you need some love and reassurance in your life. It will come, inshallah!

You are boring and soulless. He has a specific type of vibe. No need to post it online. If you don't match, move on. If you want to have a conversation with him, try to reply with something funny. It's that simple.
