Anyone know what's up with Local Kitchens in Burlingame? When is it going to open?

The title says it all, Local Kitchens has been sitting stagnant for over a year and a half now. They put the sign up, started remodeling the interior, posted about it on instagram, and then BOOM, nothing.... Sitting vacant with no activity for the past year+. I went by there the other day, because I was stopping by Sweetgreen (if you haven't had this place it's a must try), and I spotted a notice on their door that said 3 days to pay or quit. Anyone know what's up? I'm really hoping that Local Kitchens opens up because it looks amazing, I mean when you see all their different options on Instagram it looks SO TASTY. Hoping it didn't fall through and they never open...

Burlingame pedestrians are dying at 4x the national average. Councilman Stevenson touts pedestrian responsibility.

In today's article in the San Mateo Daily Journal, the City Council touts its "plan" to eliminate pedestrian deaths . . . within fifteen years. The plan is sadly lacking in ambition. Many on Council have refused to implement safety recommendations in recent years for fear of inconveniencing drivers. According to the Ayden Fang lawsuit, a resident notified a City Councilperson of the danger at the location where the young boy was killed.

In the article, Councilman Stevenson suggests more pedestrian responsibility to address these tragedies. What was four-year-old Ayden Fang doing wrong when an SUV driver accelerated onto the sidewalk at 27 mph and killed him? Do we need to educate residents on how to walk on the sidewalk to avoid getting killed by drivers?

Anyone can recommend a good barbershop in Burlingame? Hoping to not spend more than $60-65 for haircut and beard. I have Middle Eastern genes so thick hair as well if that helps lol. Thanks.

Pedestrian-only Burlingame Ave?

Did the city ever consider making Burlingame Ave pedestrian only, maybe like how other cities piloted pedestrian-only downtown streets during the pandemic?

Senate bill, other measures, look to solve problematic Bay Area e-bike use

There have been a lot of posts on e-bikes here recently, and our reporter Sierra Lopez wrote about several bills going through the Legislature that aim to regulate them more. Some of them range from clarifying high-powered e-bikes from e-motorcycles in advertising and putting an age limit on some e-bikes.

Curious what parents think about teaching their kids AI. I am interested in helping more kids get ahead of AI and use it intelligently.

Lost Cat?

Saw this cat on my way to work. I had to make the train and didn't have time to stop and get a closer look, but I saw it had a collar and was very tame, so I want to make sure it wasn't a lost house cat. I can send location details if needed. Sorry for the bad pic, also a result of rushing to work.

Buns Restaurant

Does anyone remember Buns restaurant? I think it was a gourmet burger place around 1990. Maybe on Howard? If you remember it, where was it exactly?

Thanks!

Vizsla named Finn loose on Ralston/Chateu/Edgewood

Beautiful dog running loose. Got close enough to see name and 415 number on collar. Another person tried to catch him as well. Some workers said that he lives nearby, and he knows how to open the gate himself. I just hope he doesn't get hit by a car.

Pigs are rare to see at animal shelters, said PHS/SPCA spokesperson Colleen Crowley. But the organization’s status as an open-admission shelter means they do not turn away any animals. Porker is one of the 14 available exotic and farm animals available.

Hi Burlingame community. My wife lost her favorite necklace this evening. Any chance you found it?

It's a thin gold chain with a pendant and a mini gold caribiner on it. Pictures are similar but not exactly it.

We think it was somewhere along this route:

- Peninsula Ave (north side) between Arundel and Anita

- Anita Rd (west side) between Peninsula and Howard

- Howard Ave (north side) between Anita and Park

- Park Rd (west side) between Howard and Burlingame Ave

- Burlingame Ave

-- south side between Park and Primrose

-- north side between Primrose and Delfina

- Primrose (east side) between Burlingame Ave and Floribunda

- Floribunda (north side) between Primrose and Ansel

- Ansel (east side) between Floribunda and oak Grove

- Oak Grove Ave (north side) been Ansel and Farringdon

- Farringdon Ln (west side)

Minimal work on ECR

I don't understand why Caltrans shut down multiple lanes of El Camino in multiple parts and hasn't done any sort of construction in the last month! Every day I drive past, and there are no crews actively working. The Caltrans website also doesn't have any updates. Does anyone know why they're not working? Environmental review?

Another elementary schools question

We are an expat/international family moving to SF/bay area this summer with 5 years old kid. We have visited and liked Burlingame and plan to rent here but not sure which area/elementary school to target. Ideally we prefer a school with some international families too. Any schools are known to have more/less of that? Thanks in advance.

Lunardis…

Lunardis is really starting to have that look of death that comes before retail businesses shut down. Dark, peeling old floors, old musak, low staffing, lots of price changes trying to eke out revenue from à a shrinking customer base.

Assuming this whole complex is going to get redeveloped in the next few years. Anyone seen anything concrete for this site?

Sad… the last few good groceries are quickly disappearing from our area…
