Hello, this is my kitty Violet. I noticed today she was squinting and rubbing her eye a lot. I just looked at it closely and it looks bad !! It is slightly leaky as well.

I am so scared, I'm not sure what's wrong with her eye. Could it be an injury from fighting or playing with my male cat?

Is this something I should take her to the vet for, or see if it improves/heals?

Hey everyone!! I switched my kitty Hestia to a turkey and chicken based diet and she has normal poops and no more stinky farts!!! I’m also getting freeze dried pumpkin powder in the mail today that I’ll be adding to her food. Right now she eats I and Love and You chicken wet food and fancy feast kitten chicken and turkey dry food. Once the dry food is all finished I’m switching her to something WITH NO FREAKING MILK IN IT!!! F U FANCY FEAST for having cows milk in your kitten food!!!! Even the dry food has cows milk in it :((((. All in all it’s safe to say my kitty has a sensitive tummy just like me. Also soooo many cat food brands say “chicken” but when you read the ingredients they sneak fish in there. What a pain!! The last slide is a painting I did of Hestia if you want to check it out.

Y’all, I’m at my wits end here. I am a long time cat owner, almost 20 years. But I am dealing with an issue that is driving me absolutely crazy. Someone is peeing in the couch and in other chairs. I never see who is doing it. We have been to the vet, but it is hard to know who to test for what because we don’t know who the culprit is. No one is acting differently, no one seems to be in pain. I’ve seen them all use the litter boxes otherwise. And yet, cat pee in chairs 😭.

We have four litter boxes which we clean daily.

I have 2 kittens, 12 and 15 weeks. They both recieved rabies vaccines 4 days ago and now have formed 2 types of skin irritations (2 days later). One has crusty scaly skin at the base of her ear. The other has a slight swollen eye lid with no discharge. Both kittens are acting normal, super playful (aggressive kittens playing with lots of scratching and kicking) and normal eating habits. Any advice or thoughts? Neither kitten is showing any sign of distress. Could this just be battle wounds or should I seek medical attention?

I noticed the color of my cat’s palate today and I’m wondering if it looks normal. She’s eating and drinking normally and otherwise seems fine. Does this look like a normal healthy color? Im not a minor i can afford vet

23F, not an urgent medical issue just a behavioral concern. I have two cats at home and my boyfriend has one cat at his home. When I sat down in his bed his cat came to say hi which he always does, he knows me and he always enjoys sitting with me. But this time around he was acting different. He started aggressively rubbing his face on the blanket I just sat on and then started doing it to me. And then he started biting me and attacking my arm, like bunny kicking. I had a sweater on thank god because he has very long claws and he would’ve cut me bad otherwise. But I had to push him off and by pure luck he didn’t try attacking me any further. I’m worried now that after I leave he’s going to still smell me. Is there anything I can do? Any precautions my bf can take? It’s a one cat house, so he doesn’t have any other cats he’ll be freaked out by or attack. But I don’t want him to attack any family in the house.

I put on a pair of pants that were covered in cat fur earlier, and I lint rolled them heavily. I thought it would be okay cause this is not my first time going over smelling like my cats, and I didn’t see any visible patches of fur. Little stragglers, but again, I’ve been with my bf for 3 years and this is not my first time coming over with fur on me. But im guessing my scent passed the threshold of cat smell, and it was too strong this time around. This is purely all speculation but I believe this was a reaction to my cats. Any advice would be appreciated. I feel really guilty. I’m scared he’s gonna have behavioral issues and I just messed my boyfriend’s cat up ☹️.

I’ll definitely make sure to do laundry and only wear clean clothes for the future..

Hi all I’ve had my cat for over a year now and did one summer with opening windows only a crack and it was horrible. Wondering if anyone has ideas on how to open these windows all the way or deter her from jumping out when they are open. Cant use fly screen because the stay sticks out too far. I am in NZ if that’s any help. TIA

my cat 2F suddenly developed this dark spot on the bridge of her nose. initially i thought it might be a scab from getting scraped while playing with our other cat but i think it might be acne? the spot is dry. she previously had acne on her chin that cleared up on its own. any advice or should i just let it be? I tried to wipe it off and gently scratch at it, but it didn’t come off.

she does not appear to be in pain and there are no changes in her behavior. thanks!

i'm 19 and my cat rocket, who is almost 3, moved about a week or two ago with me from fl to az. i can get him to the vet but pay for school completely by myself and am tight on money as i pay $11,000+ for university. he is neutered and has all his shots.

my cousins cat has also been staying with us for a few days. rocket is on 2 separate antibiotics currently for allergies (idk what he's allergic to) and has had some trouble with the bathroom. his tummy is getting hard but he used the bathroom which was very stinky about 36 hours ago. he's still eating, playing, peeing, grooming himself, and sleeping. he does go to the litter box to dig around and then leaves. my cousins cat eats hills science diet and rocket eats purina one, and i believe he may be getting into her food. he's only 9 pounds and healthy so he may just be overeating? or just the random change in food is getting to him? he also threw up the night before last night, but that is a side effect to his antibiotics along with diarrhea which he has had prior to this blockage.

i'd also like to add he was attacked by dogs a few years back and had a hernia which has now scarred over that sits on his tummy.

I have had her for about a year and i feed her dry kibble almost everyday and every couple days I give her wet food.

I was just on vacation and i had dry food in an auto feeder and she had no problem eating it.

Once i got back home I tried giving her kibble in her bowl and she ate almost none of it.

At the end of the day she still had barely touched it. I replaced it for wet food and she ate about 3/4th of it which is not too concerning but she almost always would finish it.

Today i gave her more kibble in the morning and she sat there still begging even though her bowl was full. I pointed at the bowl and she slowly ate it but starting flinging her head around i guess trying to say she didnt like it.

She did end up finishing it though. Now it is evening and she was begging for food and i once again gave her kibble and she did the same thing where she just stares at me begging.

I am a little concerned since she has never been picky with her food at all. She acted like this when i gave her patee and i learned last year she doesnt like it so i stopped giving it to her. but she has never been like this with the kibble.

Could this be a problem or did she just randomly decide to start being super picky.

-31yo crazy cat mom here 🙋‍♀️ -Murphy is a 2-year-old neutered male -USA. -We’ve seen TWO vets today -He’s insured, and I have zero qualms about spending the money on him 💸 (although… WOW OUCH lol).

Mostly looking for similar experiences/reassurance because I am currently beating myself up.

Last night I gave Murphy a new wet food. I previously did not know you were supposed to sloooowly introduce new foods, but BOY do I now. According to the pet cam, he ate it around 1am.

Around 6:50am I woke up hearing strange coughing/sneezing sounds. My previous cat had asthma, so apparently I still have a sixth sense for abnormal cat noises. I found Murphy excessively licking/swallowing, drooling, sneezing, gagging and cleaning his face. Anything involving breathing = ER in my brain, so we immediately went.

ER visit #1 (~7am):
All vitals were normal, lungs/heart sounded good, normal breathing and no fever. I mentioned the new food, but the vet thought it could be coincidental and possibly an environmental allergy. That didn't make much sense to me because nothing in our home has changed and the onset was so sudden, but at that point I hadn't yet discovered what was waiting for me at home…

The ER gave him a Benadryl injection and sent us home with a GI-coating medication, antihistamine and antibiotics. He was still gagging/sneezing quite a bit afterward. Once home, I consulted the online vet through his insurance, who recommended calling his regular vet to see if they could squeeze him in.

Vet visit #2 (~1:30pm):
BLESS THEM, they got us in. A much more thorough physical exam, another set of normal vitals, plus X-rays. Imaging was completely normal—no obstruction/foreign body and nothing concerning seen on images or exam.

His vet believes Murphy most likely had a very violent vomiting episode that significantly irritated his throat/sinuses, causing the sneezing, gagging, secretions and respiratory-looking symptoms, with some lingering nausea afterward.

They gave him subcutaneous fluids and an anti-nausea injection. The vet said he sees nothing currently wrong and expects him to be okay with rest/time, although I know we're watching for signs of aspiration pneumonia after the vomiting even though lungs are clear now.

We're withholding food today per the vet. GI-coating medication starts tonight, another dose tomorrow morning an hour before attempting breakfast, and then his other prescribed medications afterward.

He has peed (in his carrier, because obviously 🙄😆) and had a normal poop in his litter box.

Currently he's curled up comfortably in his crate dozing. No current gagging/sneezing, breathing looks comfortable, and when I've been able to count his resting respiratory rate it's been around 23–26 breaths/min. I'm checking on him about every 30 minutes because, again, crazy cat mom.

Has anyone had a cat experience something similar after a severe vomiting episode? Specifically the throat/nasal irritation, sneezing, gagging, drooling/secretions afterward? How long did it take them to seem like themselves again?

I'm beating myself up pretty badly for giving him the new food and causing him all this discomfort, even though both vets have been reassuring. I'd just really love to hear from anyone who's experienced something similar.

TL;DR: My cat had a bad reaction to a new wet food and violently vomited, which seems to have irritated his throat/sinuses and caused gagging, sneezing and drooling. Two vets say he looks okay and his X-rays/vitals are normal. Just looking for anyone who’s experienced something similar!💕🐾

what do i do? I just woke up this morning and noticed her right eye seem a bit swollen

I’ve been treating my cat for ringworm after seeing the vet a week ago now but it’s just been getting gradually worse. Has anyone else experienced ringworm on their cats before and know whether the image of my cat looks similar to issues you’ve had?

this is sprite (10mo old female spayed). we adopted her six weeks ago and she had some respiratory issues (the sound in the video) that the shelter said were remnants of a past URI. two rounds of antibiotics didn’t help, and yesterday she vomited and got lethargic and so we took her to the emergency vet. we’re in our 30s and living in US.

her x-rays (in the comments) show everything normal except a very narrow trachea (windpipe). vet said it’s likely a congenital stricture, very unlikely to improve, and if we don’t get balloon surgery from a specialist 9 hr drive away the only other option is putting her down 😞 she was discharged with some anti-inflammatory meds for 3 days.

i completely understand putting a kitty out of their misery, but the video shows her today. she’s playing, eating and drinking, energetic and loving life. we’re going to monitor her symptoms and behavior, and if she goes into distress again we’ll have to consider doing the unthinkable. but until then, does anyone else have experience with something like this? any vets out there with other suggestions? we adore her and want as much time with her as possible where she feels happy and comfortable.

3yo Spayed Female DSH

My cat Valentine has PICA, we manage this well. In 2024, we found this out by her eating the drawstring from one of my shirts and needing emergency abdominal exploratory surgery to remove it. Since this surgery, she has struggled with food aversion to wet food and chronic constipation.

I have been to 3 different vets now including a GI specialist. The first vet was not helpful, the second we ran many many tests to rule out the majority of conditions and switched her to hydrolyzed food and a maintenance dose of MiraLax. We suspect that the cause of the constipation are adhesions from the surgery but there is no way of being positive without performing another surgery.

At the end of June this year, she was no longer interested in the hydrolyzed food I had put her on (we switched brands), we ended up putting her on a random food because she was willing to eat it. She then began to get hairballs and developed a partial hairball obstruction. We put her on Biome food which made the hairballs worse and we determined she was getting them from excessive licking due to skin irritation. Thankfully, we were able to get her on a different hydrolyzed food.

Since then, she has consistently been on MiraLax and now CatLax for the prevention of hairballs. Since this obstruction and the start of CatLax, she went from a bowel movement every 1.5-2 days to 3 days. We saw a specialist this last week that recommended we stay on this regimen as long as we can before trying prescription medication. By the weekend, she was going over 72 hours so I took her to a vet who did scans and found that she was not constipated, she just was not passing stool. They performed an enema and started her on Cisapride for decreased gut motility.

She is still at this time (we have only been on the Cisapride for 4 days) going longer than 48 hours between movements. I am planning to remove the CatLax from her diet as I have a hunch it may contribute to slowing things down further based on the time frame of starting it and even more decreased motility than before. After a lot of digging online, I found only like one source that said that could potentially contribute in cats who already have motility issues. I feel really worn out with all of the vet bills, visits and unpredictability. I just want her to get back on track, it is a constant stress for me to worry of her well being especially with an upcoming vacation.

Any suggestions or similar experiences?

Has anyone’s kitty had low potassium and high calcium with no known cause? My 15 year old boy is low in potassium despite being on supplements and it isn’t working to raise the levels. Has hyperthyroidism but managed well on liquid medicine. No cancer symptoms and is fine in himself except losing weight like crazy. Eats well and a lot, toilets fine too. Kidney work was also fine.

He is trialing medication for conns disease but this is more of a trial and error at this point.

Any brains to pick would be amazing

hi reddit- my cat's right eye looks weird and i am worried about it. kind of dull and blurry and he has been squinting it. not much unusual discharge. he has not been scratching at it. he is acting normal. i brought him to the vet today and they said that it was relatively ok. they put dye in there which indicated that there wasn't a scratch or anything. i was given cat pink eye ointment to give him. still concerned. wondering what y'all think. please help! thanks!

Hello, my cat is 8 months old, and he often, maybe 3 or 4 times a day scratches this par of his neck, it has a pink small dot, almost like a pimple, is hard to the touch and it might lightly injured because of scratching like a pimple in a human being.

Car is male, not neutered.

I am an adult, with access to a vet.

Its hard to see and photograph because of size and all the fur.

Hello, I don't know if this fits here, but I'm been trying to adopt this cat from a rescue, but they needed to be treated for ringworm first. I have other pets, so I didn't want to risk getting them sick. Anyway, 4 weeks later, they said there was a mix up in cats (in name only) and showed me a picture. However, the picture looks a little different, even though they claim they're identical twins. Can cats change their markings over a few weeks? Is this even the same cat? Also, please do not harrass the rescue, I understand they're probably overworked / volunteers. They said they'll double check the cats.

Hello all! I’m posting to see if anyone has ever noticed this sort of pigmentation on their cats? This is my girl Holly. She’s 4 and has been an indoor cat for most of her life until recently. Since June, she has access to a cation where she spends most of her time. We live in California, where summers are hot and humid. I’ve first noticed the pigmentation about a week ago. She’s been acting fine; eating,drinking, and using the old box like usual. She isn’t scratching the area or any area out of her norm.

Two weeks ago on 8/14 I (26F) took my indoor only cats (spayed female, neutered male, 4YO from the same litter) to the vet for a checkup and vaccines (which I note, the distemper vaccine had lapsed by about 6 months). They are otherwise healthy. At the vet, my female cat lost her mind and went crazy in the room and was hiding under the table. They were able to do her vaccines and everything was fine.

The following weekend, my female cat developed a limp and throughout the week continued to decline, couldn't jump on things, had an extremely decreased appetite, quit drinking water, hissing at me, not playing, and was hiding. All signs of being sick. I took her in, she had a 103 fever and had lost weight. They kept her for the day, gave her fluids and did blood work. Blood work only showed slightly high neutrophilis and monocytes (attached). X-rays showed no injury. They administered Meloxicam and some IV antibiotic. She came home and has been doing better.

3 days later, my male cat started exhibiting ALL the same symptoms and lost a whole pound. I just took him in. They did blood work, gave him an antibiotic, fluids, and a different NSAID. They said they have no idea what this "mysterious" illness could be. I asked if they could have picked up a virus at the vet (perhaps Calicivirus bc of the limp/joint pain) and they said there was no way because we were the first appointment of the day so there should have been no exposure to other sick cats.

So the question is, wtf is going on with my cats?! I haven't changed anything else except started offering a high fiber food alongside their regular food at the vets suggestion to help female cat with hard stool. I am so vigilant, cautious, and careful with these poor babies. I am waiting on male cats blood work but it's just so crazy to me that literally $1200 later I have no answers. It freaks me out because I have no idea how else I could have prevented this. I am very fortunate to be able to afford this vet care. Lemonade insurance has been great, I highly recommend. I have only had to pay a fraction of the total bill here.

Any advice, words of reassurance, or constructive/kind comments welcome. We are located in central Florida.

TLDR; Young healthy indoor cats both got some virus/illness that showed up after routine vet visit and vaccination and veterinarian is not sure what it is or how they got it.
