Got my next rejection.

Been trying to apply for roles at CERN for over two years now. This was the perfect role that I found. third overall. My job is not scientific, but there was this HR LD job which felt perfect. Literally everything I do on a regular basis. And it took less than 5 business days after the deadline for me to get the message “you were not pre-selected for the next step in the recruitment process”. CERN has held a very special place in my heart for so long and I hope I had more scientific background. But, life happened.

This time it felt I did everything right. Ticked each and every requirement point by point. Really thought this was it. Anyway, whoever gets it I’m sure was more competent than I am. It just hit even worse because I’m in a transition phase in my life so this one could change the entire course of my life. Anyway. I’m sure the right candidate had more to offer. To the latest new hires on this sub, you’re a part of something really amazing! All the best ❤️

Nationality? Gender? Two factors you can't change and that can decide the outcome from the start

Yep. Also, if you're not already inside, chances are there is an internal candidate for the job. For LDs, you most certainly have to know people from the group you're applying to get the job.

which obviously cannot happen because i dont know anyone at CERN. I merely visited once in my life and that too as a tourist.

If you know proffessor from your university or your country that is already in there, then their recommendation could help.

Even students from my country in europe cant get in without recommendation and my state was one of the founding.

Unfortunately yes. But maybe this improves your self esteem :) I saw a graphic recently and indians had the lowest percentage of acceptance due to the high number of applicants and the quotas as already mentioned

Yes, in 99% percent chances they will consider candidate from the full member state

I got rejected from an LD mainly because of quotas. It didn't even matter that it was in my previous team where I had already worked for 3 years. Know a couple stories of other hiring managers that were forced to hire on quotas as well. CERN hiring process is cooked now

That’s rough.

The truth is that meeting the criteria for a role does not mean you get the job, simply because there might be hundreds more that do too. This is even more so the case in non-scientific roles since they typically prefer locals who are already well-versed with the norms and the languages.

All of this is to say that this isn’t a reflection of the strength of your profile. Keep applying everywhere and I hope you find a great role eventually.

You got an interview that's amazing. You should be proud that is more than 95% of the rest of us. I would keep applying if I were you. How was the interview?

Thank you! It went well i guess it was more on if i was a perfect fit for the job role or not.

You will only be selected if no suitable candidate is found in Switzerland or EU itself and also you need to have exceptional skills demonstrated. I believe yours was auto-rejected as it failed first stage.

You're quoting Swiss employment practices, but CERN is an IGO.
