Discussion I built my own M-Unit because I'm a cheapskate

Been wiring up my ‘82 GS750E and really wanted one of the smart power modules. Momentary buttons on the bars, everything switched centrally, no fuse panel to dig through when something stops working. Looked at the price, decided I’d rather spend six months learning PCB design. Not sure that was the correct financial decision but here we are.

It handles 12 circuits, runs off an ESP32, and there’s a phone app for control and seeing what’s actually going on with each output, including over current protection, fault detection, and battery voltage monitoring.

You can assign button press combinations to unlock the bike, or use your existing key, or just walk up to it with your phone in your pocket.

Button press combinations can be set to trigger different outputs or combinations of outputs so you can have fewer buttons than accessories.

In the enclosure it's 97x86x20mm (3.8x3.4x0.8") so it tucks nicely under the seat.

Open source, so you can build your own if you’re so inclined: Github

Happy to answer questions about any of it. If a few people want one without doing the fabrication themselves I might order a batch.

Or without clip ons and mad custom work, am I just a poser?

I'm a happy poser, if so. This thing rocks.

Discussion What's your definition of "Cafe Racer"?

I see so many bikes miscatagorized as a "Cafe Racer"... Everyone knows what a sport bike is... What a Cruiser is... What a touring Bike is... Dirt bike, Adventure Bike, ETC... So why is it so hard to know what a "Cafe Racer" is? I consider my Guzzi a Cafe Racer.

I'm sure someone has already posted something about this here, but I'm just excited to learn more about these. Can't find anything on pricing yet, but the power and styling is there. Love that suzuki consistently puts out bikes with retro and cafe heritage.

Discussion Am I a poser if I rock a Thruxton RS 😅

Regardless whether I am or not, I don’t mind…I just like to know where I stand. I do not have the ability, tools, knowledge nor garage space to build a proper cafe racer on my own…so im considering employing triumph’s team of engineers to help fill that cafe itch inside me….dont hate me community….i want to be one of you even if i am with poser status 😆

Discussion Custom breadbox using pod filters?

Post image
45 Upvotes

Has anyone ever made a custom breadbox involving surrounding pod filters in some sort of enclosure? My issue is I don’t have the stock airbox for my 79 cb650, and really don’t wanna pay an absurd amount for an OEM airbox, or deal with the headache of jetting for pods, so I was hoping to somehow make my own breadbox style airbox to replicate the reliability of a stock unit. I’ve seen in the 70s and 80s there were a couple aftermarket options, but I was wondering if anyone had experience making one themselves. PFA. TIA!

This a Honda Supremo 150cc. Build by "La Garage Motorcycles" on facebook they are from the Philippines. Do you wonder why people here usually build cafe racer with low CC(100-250cc). Because low CC are common in this country and they love customizing these low CC bikes and make it a Classic motorcycle. People customize here for the looks for the cafe or any other classic motorcycle concept. Even though cafe racers where meant for speed, well not all riders really like to speed others just want the looks/aesthetics of the bike.

Discussion 1984 Suzuki GS400 Cafe Racer - First ever motorbike project

Post image
93 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I’ve recently just got my hands on my first ever motorbike (plot twist it doesn’t run), don’t ask me why but i’ve never wanted my first bike to be something anyone can just grab from a dealership and ride off into the distance … taking life the hard way I know…

Anyways it’s a 1984 Suzuki gs400 that is definitely going to need a LOT of TLC and probably an engine rebuild, but I wanted to ask around and see If i can get as much advice as possible. I’ve only ever worked on my car (1997 2.8L Hilux) so the motorbike world is completely new to me but I’m super excited to learn about absolutely everything.

So far I’ve dropped the oil, removed and cleaned the oil filter compartment, removed the dead battery, dropped the fuel just to get it ready to see If I can get it started as safe as possible.

Things I’m looking to do first but please point me in the right direction:

  • Carbs
  • Brakes
  • Battery
  • Oil
  • Oil filter (picking up tomorrow)
  • Factory air box

All this to see if I can get it going. I’ve never disassembled an engine so just going to see if I can crank her over before I inevitably have to start doing the expensive parts…

Cheers :)

I was just wondering this. I feel that eg GS riders etc really have another mindset. Does this apply somewhat in general? Why?
