This is common at 4 or 5am when there is zero traffic around. Slightly less common middle of day.

I have made that exact mistake, different intersection. Lights for thru lanes are green, no on-coming traffic, no bikes on the parallel path, no pedestrians, safe to make the turn, and off we go on autopilot.

I have done that too once 3 cycles of waiting for the green arrow and nope nothing changes.. had to force my way in when it was safe. (Weekday middle of the day)
