I was making $52k and got the usual annual raise of 3%, so I was at around $53.5k. I asked for a 14% raise to get to $61,000 because my performance had been good and consistent, and they told me no.

I started talking to a few other companies, and I've just received an offer from a competitor with a 46% increase, bringing me to $78,000. Same type of work/role too, which is the funny part.

A few people acted like I was asking for something unrealistic when I asked for 14%, but I knew my worth. If they had agreed to that request, I wouldn't have looked elsewhere and found something paying $78k. So, strangely enough, I'm kind of grateful they said no.

All these fancy speeches about how we need to stick together yet not one mention about the single biggest crisis in this country.

Job bank is still seeking LMIAs on a daily basis, companies still ghosting applications and selling their data. Everytime I start job searching, the amount of spam calls skyrocket.

Looking for some inspiration/guidance on what to do. I am coming up on 40 years old, and after working retail in north america for nearly 20 years I need to find something that I can retire with.
Graduated highschool but never finished college/university as I had the opportunity to work my way up into management in retail and hop around a few companies until I got a decent salary and work/life balance. That was fine up until about 5 years ago; the economy isn’t what it was and job security in retail is minimal at best. Yes, there will always be retail jobs available, but i’d rather not be 55+ working on my resume to for another simple manager position..Nothing wrong with the work and it pays okay, but I have the time/health now to commit to something new.
If you have a few minutes let me know what work you now do and how you got there, ie; back to school, blue collar, self employed?
If anyone switched to a trade, I would really like to hear from you (what trade, is it a union, how much did it cost to get trained?)

Well, it finally happened. After 2 years, thousands of applications and years off my life due to stress... I give up. I've not had an interview or anything in a year, so I give up.

I just have to accept the only thing I have, which is working for a survey company for maybe 15-19 hours a week, no benefits, no opportunities. I'll be working there until I'm dead. I imagine I'm not the only one and I feel confident folks are going to offer advice, but please don't. I just want to find company in misery right now.

so for context i had my interview round last week and was told by the interviewer i will hear from them this week. I know its tuesday only but im getting super anxious and despressed.

I barely had any interviews this year and only got rejected after the final rounds for the ones i got.

during this recent interview, though the questions were mostly behavioural i got a lil verbose for few questions and eventually concluded with what they asked and for few others i answered well.

do you guys have any miraculous successful interview stories, like getting a job with career gap, being verbose and still getting a job. My anxiousness is killing me.

I’m in southern ON and I’m hoping to be done my CPL with Multi IFR by the end of the year. I’m planning on driving up to Thunder Bay with stops in Orillia/Barrie, Sudbury, and Sault to drop off resumes will all the operators there. Sioux is also on my radar but I’m hoping to not have to start out there ideally.

Is there any low time stuff out in BC? Or are most the prospects in northern ON?

I’ve been interviewing for a fintech marketing role since late June and have completed:

Recruiter → Hiring Manager → Assessment → Take-home case + presentation → Culture & Values interview → Team-fit interview.

I’ve received positive feedback after every stage. I was told that if Team Fit went well, the final step would be an interview with the CEO.

However, there have been constant delays due to vacations, offsites, and finishing interviews with other candidates. The recruiter recently asked about my timeline, and I mentioned I’m in final stages elsewhere.
It’s now been 2+ months with no final decision or CEO interview.

Would you assume they’re genuinely just slow, or does this sound like I’m being kept warm as a backup candidate?

5 yoe in crypto product manager roles as a large exchange. Will that count for anything or do I basically have to start over?

I’m a 33 year-old female who lost all her life savings to fraud (basically summed up I could’ve bought a house cash) & her family to death at the same time.

Met loving kind man who also magically happened be Orphan and same hardships in his life caused him to only have 20k to his name at 57 years old.

When we met, I was on disability due to PTSD and depression from all the loss. I helped build his small business up to sustain us both- but it’s only 35k after tax… not long term sustainable. He does amazing work and it well respected in town… he knows how to manage 30-40k projects currently.

I know I could leave him and just focus on myself and build a decent life up, but I think I’d always be sad that I never got to live life with him just because money. ( I truly never felt this way for any man in my life- if soulmates is a thing I’d like to think he is it). We’re both very entrepreneurial minds, we never had debt, we both don’t own credit cards. We live within our means simply thrift everything.

I guess I’m seeking help from the community if you guys recommend any careers for me and him to look out or businesses for me and him to look at getting into, that could help us build enough capital to buy a home , put some money into retirement, and travel maybe 2 times a year. We won’t have kids since we can’t afford to, and no family help. We want to live remote as country folks but have a 70-100k salary per person…..

Do banks give loans to folks who want to build a business or purchase one without pre-existing employment capital proof of income ? I completed my undergraduate degree in Finance and Accounting. I worked at CIBC as a Financial Services Representative for one year, and I’m currently working at TD as a Personal Banker, where I’ve been for about a month.
To be honest, I’ve realized that I’m not very interested in continuing in retail banking. I’m more interested in roles that involve analyzing numbers, reviewing financial information, making decisions, and handling administrative or analytical work rather than being heavily client-facing.
I’m particularly interested in pursuing a career as a Mortgage Underwriter, Credit Analyst, or in a similar analyst role.
Given my background and experience, what roles would you recommend I apply for? I’d really appreciate any suggestions on potential career paths or positions that would be a good fit for my skills and interests.

I’m feeling really sad and demotivated right now. I feel like I’m doing badly in interviews. I’ve spent the last two days studying and preparing everything I could to ace the technical rounds, but when I’m actually in the interview, I either go blank or struggle to explain things in the way the interviewer expects.

Sometimes I even wonder if there is something wrong with me because I understand the topics while studying, but when I’m asked scenario-based questions, I struggle to structure my answer or explain it properly. I asked for feedback after the interview, and the interviewer mentioned that I need to work on my communication because my answers are all over the place.

I’m feeling really dejected and, honestly, I’ve started wondering whether I should even continue in the tech field just because I couldn’t ace an interview.

One of the biggest problems is scenario-based questions. In my previous organizations, I didn’t get enough exposure to some of the scenarios interviewers are asking about. So, I’ve been trying to prepare by memorizing scenarios and answers, almost pretending that I’ve worked on all of them. But when I actually explain them in an interview, I can tell that my answers sound robotic rather than like someone who has genuinely worked hands-on with those situations.

I don’t know exactly what went wrong or how to fix this. I really want to improve rather than give up.

Could you please advise me on how I should prepare differently—especially for scenario-based questions that I have never encountered before? How can I learn to think through a scenario, structure my answer, and communicate it naturally instead of trying to memorize answers?

I genuinely need to vent and also get some advice because I don’t know what else I’m supposed to be doing.
I recently graduated with a B.Comm in Human Resources Management and I’ve been trying to break into HR. Since March, I’ve applied to 200+ HR jobs and I have not received a single interview or offer.
Not one.
I’m mainly applying for HR Assistant, HR Coordinator, Recruitment Assistant and junior Talent Acquisition positions.
What is driving me crazy is the experience requirements.
Why does an HR Assistant position require 2–3 years of direct HR experience? I understand wanting some experience, but isn’t the entire point of an assistant/junior position that you’re still learning and developing?
I don’t have zero experience either. I have some HR/recruitment experience, along with several years of administrative, coordination, customer service and high-volume work experience. But I obviously don’t have years and years of specialized HR experience because I JUST GRADUATED AND I’M TRYING TO GET THAT EXPERIENCE.
It’s the same cycle over and over:
You need experience to get the job → you need the job to get the experience → rejected because you don’t have enough experience.
I’ve tried more than just clicking “Apply.”
I’ve tailored my resume. I’ve applied directly through company websites. I’ve found HR contacts and emailed them after applying. I’ve followed up. I’ve connected with people on LinkedIn. I’ve tried reaching out directly to recruiters and hiring teams.
Most of the time? Nothing.
I actually received another rejection today saying they were moving forward with candidates who “more closely demonstrated the required key qualifications,” and I’m sitting here wondering what else I’m supposed to do to get someone to give me a chance.
I’m not expecting to walk into an HR department knowing everything. I want someone to teach me. I want to learn.
And that’s the part I find so frustrating.
To the people who are currently HR Managers, Recruiters, HRBPs, Directors, etc.: someone gave you your first HR opportunity too. At some point, somebody looked at you when you didn’t have years of HR experience and decided you were capable of learning.
Why does it feel like companies aren’t willing to do that anymore?
I’m not asking someone to hire me just because I have a degree. I’m asking for an opportunity to prove that I can actually do the work.
So seriously — what am I missing?
If you’re in HR, tear my approach apart. Tell me what I need to change. Resume? Applications? Networking? Certifications? The types of positions I’m targeting? I’ll take the criticism.
And on the off chance that someone reading this is hiring for an HR Assistant/junior HR position in the GTA, please reach out to me. I’m willing to learn, I’m willing to work, and I genuinely just want someone to give me that first real opportunity.
How did the rest of you get your first HR when every “entry-level” HR job already wanted experience?

Got laid off IT(14 years of experience) and have been trying to get back to work for some time now but not getting any leads. Have been applying after updating resumes as per job description, using AI to get an ATS score, etc...

Wanted advice on any resume writing services or any paid consultancies that you have used and had any luck with.

I'm starting to lose my mind here. I genuinely don't know what to do anymore.

I'm 25, soon to be graduating with my master's in a few months, and I'm losing all hope for my future. I currently have a serving job (weekends only) which I have had for a few years now (great school job) and have been in the process of finding another job for the last 4 months now.

I have several years of bartending/serving experience, 3+ years of landscaping, and 2+ years of retail experience. I have applied to over 1500+ jobs, and have heard back from exactly 2 of them (didn't get either one!!). I don't live in a major city, and I have been applying to any and all jobs within a 250km radius (at this point I would commute, because I have no other choice).

I have applied to everything from McDonald's to construction work, to policy analyst positions.

I have done everything possible. Applying online, in person, contacting directly, following up about my applications, writing out specific resumes for each job, a unique cover letter nearly every single time, and yet I have found ZERO success.

I've reached out to basically every human being I've ever had contact with to see if they know anyone that's hiring. That led to some success, spoke to a few people, had a couple "interviews" and was told they would be contact shortly (spoiler alert: they ghosted me!! even after I tried to follow up with them).

I was hopeful that I would land at least one teaching assistant position for September, but recently was told from the program admin that I was near the bottom of the list of applicants.. Apparently they had applicants with PhD's applying for TA positions...

I'm living with my parents currently and they are on my ass about finding another job, both are retired and have zero f*cking clue what its like out here. I am truly at my end. I don't know what to do anymore.

I can't even get a f*cking call back from McDonalds... I will soon have two degrees, 12 years of employment experience, many many references, and yet I still cannot get a job that will pay me f*cking minimum wage. How can I start my "career" if I can't even find a part-time job??

Hi everyone, just curious of how many people found work and how did they go about finding said work in Canada and did you have to switch career paths due to this job market? And do you currently like your job and what are your plans after finding your job?
