Referral codes are spam.
That's it, that's the post.
What is Referral Code Spam?
- Referral spam is when fake or fraudulent traffic is sent to a website, often through the use of referral codes, to inflate traffic statistics or gain illegitimate rewards.
- It can also involve fraudsters creating multiple accounts to refer themselves and then use the referral bonuses.
- The goal is to manipulate analytics, gain attention for the spammer's site, or to collect rewards without legitimate referrals.

Looking for an Internet Provider That Does not charge Activation Fee for solely 1 month use ?
Hi everyone, I'm moving to another flat in Montreal where I'll be needing internet for 1 month. Having checked some providers, it seems they are charging activation fee (around $75 cad) and other fees apart from the internet itself. That is said, for 1 month use, it increases the total amount up. So, looking for one without charging it. Highly appreciated suggestions in this regard.

pppd Timeout waiting for PADO packets
Hi,
Distributel network using nokia ont modem and asus router with merlin os. I am in GTA
I am getting disconnect from internet randomly once in 2-3 days.
All the lights on modem were good/green when the router had a internet issue.
Here is the router log - I have CHKWAN script too, which detects internet is not available and if its down it restarts the pppd interface, it still does not work until the router/modem both are restarted.

Rogers has become a terrible company - What to do about it?
The inability to reach customer service by phone, the amount of posts about that on this sub recently, the huge fees charged for a few days of service (see more recent posts in this sub), this company is getting away with murder. Charging high fees and not delivering customer service, they're graping us the consumer. They make enormous profits while not providing service - they're not honouring their end of the deal to provide service, I see that as a way of thieving.
The only way I can see their advantageousness changing is (1) if we all start calling our MPs to help - the government needs to help the citizenry with this near monopoly taking advantage, or (2) moving to another service provider when you can finally get through to their fucking customer service agent

Canadian Internet Governance Forum — Ottawa + Virtual, November 4
Hey everyone! Sharing this here in case anyone’s interested.
The Canadian Internet Governance Forum (CIGF) is happening on November 4 in Ottawa, and you can join us either in person or virtually. It’s also completely free to attend.
We’ll be talking about some of the big issues shaping the internet in Canada right now, including AI, digital sovereignty, cybersecurity, internet infrastructure, and internet governance more broadly.
I’m helping organize the event and would genuinely love to see some folks from this community there. Whether you work in this space or are just interested in these issues, everyone is welcome!

Here's what I wish I knew before trusting that the same lines meant the same internet...
If Teksavvy reports running internet through the lines, you had internet. Here's what's going on for us Canadians, from a very disheartened Canadian...
I activated service with Tekksavvy July 15. I was a Shaw/Rogers customer for years. I unplugged their modem in exchange for a tekksavvy modem and I have not had usable or reliable internet since. I made another post on this subreddit. But usable/reliable is not subjective (pings over 3000, multiple modem failures/day). I have complied with every one of Teksavvy's troubleshooting steps.
Teksavy customer service maintains that my internet is fine, I was provided service and they only provide credits for complete disconnections. Technical support has acknowledged the issues based on the data but has no viable solution.
Essentially, regardless of if you are able to use the internet, if they claim it ran through the lines. They have fulfilled their end.
After extensive time, stress and research, I have pieced together the bigger picture and I hope this helps anyone in a battle with Teksavvy or any of the third party ISP's in Canada. Or considering making the switch.
- Wholesale prices are high
- The third parties often blame the main providers for the approved modem list. However, there are other modems on the list that do not contain the same Puma 6 or 7 chip.
- Teksavvy does not have margin to absorb this cost and therefore maintains that the documented reports on Hitron modems and Puma chips aren't accurate
- Teksavvy lists the modem at a complimentary rental to avoid legal accountability for the reliability. 'You have the option to purchase your own' becomes a reasonable resolution.
- Teksavvy strictly avoids accountability for speeds and stability
- Tekksavvy prices their 500mb and 1GB plan very strategically for a reason - I continue to be billed for a speed that has not been provided. I average 300-500GB on a wired ethernet connection. They are capped at 1.5 GB from the main providers. In high traffic areas, Teksavy knows most customers won't see 1 GB. The TOS states a 500mb minimum (standard with most providers) - I do not even average this. But, conveniently, 500mb is priced the same, so I remain stuck at the same price or in a battle for speeds that won't exist. Convenient right?
- Tekavvy prices their initial 1 yr at promo pricing. I was told that at renewal, you will not ever see that price again. The regular price listed is far from competitive even with reliable service.
- Teksavvy has maintained that purchasing a new modem would be my choice based on my 'preferences' and denies the necessity to facilitate their ability to deliver service. When I visited both my local Staples and Best Buy, both advised they do not sell modems as ISP's are responsible for providing them. I understand that I can purchase one elsewhere. My point is that the position Teksavvy has taken is not aligned with standard practice in Canada.
- Teksavvy relies on consumer ignorance. If you are not a gamer, streamer or multi device household, you may not notice the issues in your every day use. It doesn't mean they do not exist - hence the mixed reports on this subreddit alone. If you are not a total nerd who will do the research like myself, you may also not be running the reports that reveal the truth.
10. Do not forget, their wholesaler is their competitor and as consumers, we are stuck in between.
I have repeatedly asked Teksavvy to work together on resolutions. The arrogance from the management team is an entire post in itself; they have failed to make any meaningful progress on fixing the technical issues or resolving the billing.
In BC, Carrytel offer a 1GB plan for $59.99 (79.99 after 1 yr) and will provide a Technicolour 4400 Modem (Non Puma chip) plus mesh wireless router. At this point, I am beyond frustrated after this 6 week battle and I will likely return to Shaw because of the known reliability, but I have no doubt that eliminating a modem with a processor that cannot handle congested lines, would resolve stability issues issues. If Teksavvy further gaslights in the comments (as they tend to do), I encourage you to do your own research on the modems they provide.
Here is the reality. The wholesalers, like the consumers are at the whim of the big boys. One of two choices : be a victim to being forced with the top 3 Rogers, Bell, Telus or be a victim to paying the same (if not higher) rates for unreliable/unstable internet with companies that lack the same integrity?
I will leave my political 2 cents out of this one. But hopefully this helps someone.

[Update] on golden goose "3yr 25/mth 3gbps" renewal negotiations
Original post [https://www.reddit.com/r/bell/s/kPgl5W6Wh1\](https://www.reddit.com/r/bell/s/kPgl5W6Wh1) has been updated with latest developments.
**TL;DR:** refused Bell's best loyalty offer of $55/mth, allowed my cancel order to complete, got Rally Internet meanwhile for $31/mth 1gbps 3yrs no contract, now awaiting Bell's counteroffer (if at all) come Sep/Oct.

This Toronto couple spent four days trying to cancel Rogers. Why some telecoms make it so hard to move on
- Sarah Brooks and Nick Williams just bought a home in Toronto’s Junction neighbourhood and were excited for a fresh start. There was just one problem: Rogers wouldn’t let them go.
- With less than two weeks left on the lease at her downtown condo, Brooks thought it might take a day to cancel her $140 monthly Internet service.
- The couple did not expect the last item on their to-do list would involve hours on hold, dropped calls and automated system disconnections for four days — and counting.

Need a new Interenet provider
Hey guys I need a good internet plan pronto for keswick. 3 adults living at home require fast download and upload due to the nature of our jobs so pref 1-1.5 GBs. Rogers is 120 which is absolutely absurd and bell is no better. is there any other company that can offer relatively cheap plans? or am i being unrealistic and 120 is the most realistic plan

500 Canadians have spoken!!
500 of us have signed the petition to force telcoms to answer their damn phones within 10 minutes! 2500 people have viewed this petition so the conversion rate is quite strong. Even stronger is the anger I have seen all over the Facebook groups, here at Reddit and on X. Its unreal the number of people who cant get someone to talk to. That is what originally prompted me to start the petition. We are at a stage now where the concept is proven - Canadians are pissed! What we need to do now is get more eyeballs on the petition. The more signatures we get, the more credibility we have when we address the CRTC hearings in November on consumer protections within the telcom industry. Anything you can do, or any suggestions you have to get more Canadian eyeballs on this, I am all ears. https://www.change.org/Canadiansdeservebetter

Bell Internet False advertising and price gouging?
Hi guys, I am in the south shore suburb of Montreal and I have recently gone and cancelled 2 bell internet accounts for Videotron after being a customer for several years
I was sold bell fibe 50 for $65.00 a month on a special promo. I was promised up to 50mpbs download and 10 mbps upload speed
I then rented a second unit for my mother and put her internet under my account 1 year later.
same bell fibe 50 package, was forced to take the fibe tv app that she does not used and am currently paying $90.00 a month for her package. Both my accounts have increased over the years.
Over the course of the past few years when I tried to do youtube streaming or gaming I had to get on the phone with them because my upload speed was barely hitting 3mpbs
I was told this was normal because the neighborhood was on old copper wires ( DSL )
at this point I knew I was getting ripped off and being sold something I was not receiving but never had to use much upload speed so I let it go a few times.
today I called again and was told that it was normal and there was nothing they could do - the max they could get me was 6.9 mbps upload ( not the 10 they were selling me) and I still wasn't even getting half of that.
When I called today they sent me to their loyalty department. I said I was cancelling my units internet as they 100% could not give me what I needed - I told them I may be willing to keep my mothers unit since she only streams netflix and did not need the significant speeds, but only if they decreased the price significantly - alas it was their cheapest option at $87.00 month. I can get her basic internet with fizz that is 3-5x as fast for 40 buclks,
I called videotron and they are offering me 1000mpbs download and 50mpbs upload for 60 a month for life - on real fibre optic network
How can bell get away with selling fibre optic packages and giving clients 50% less than their optimal speeds that they sell to us at 20-30-50% more than other companies? they don't even have fibre optic in the neighborhood. is this not false advertising??
