We have a 2 yr old rescue that had been at the trainer's for approximately 1 month and then we sent our other dog to be introduced and see if we made the right decision for our dog. They did great at the trainer's, but she is not liking my boy here at home and we already had an altercation. I feel bad because she is in the crate most of the time. I do have the trainer coming to see what we can do, but I'd like some information, advice or guidance from Corso breeders and owners. Black dog is my girl Mamba, and Brindle is my boy Ripley. Ripley is mellow and a Corso x Rottweiler but very mellow and friendly. Thank you in advance.

My boy just turned a year & we’ve transitioned from a rural place to a city.

I also want to say that he’s a rescue & I haven’t gotten a DNA test done yet. I know he’s a mastiff at 130 lbs, but not 100% sure on lineage.

He was great walking at first in the city (as he usually is), but recently he’s had issues on our walks. I think he’s overwhelmed with the sensory overload as he’s not going after any person, animal, etc. He’s honestly trying to get back to “safety” and it breaks my heart.

I’m already in contact with his trainer again & will continue lessons in his new environment, but any additional advice is appreciated!

Hi, I am looking into getting a Cane Corso and raising/training it to be a service animal for myself. I have some psychiatric disorders, like cPTSD and panic disorder, among others. I also have physical issues of having issues with mobility and losing consciousness. I struggle with some everyday things that most people wouldn’t even think of because they are just a normal part of life for a lot of people in good health and the effort is minimal.

In the research I have read Corso’s have been said to be good service animals for these issues. I have had dogs before and very active breeds that require a lot of work. My partner has been a dog handler and trainer for 15 years working with mainly large breeds and breeds that are difficult for a lot of people due to the amount of training and effort are needed to properly train. He would be assisting me in the training. I have spoken with someone who trained their Corso as a service animal and they had great success.

I would love to hear from people who have trained their’s to be a service animal, tried and changed their mind, their pup wasnt a good fit for service animal training or thoughts/knowledge on training to be a service animal. I know they aren’t a very common breed for a service animal and that there may be some backlash or people not agreeing with training them as a service animal, we all are entitled to our opinions.

I would like advice on people who own cane corso. I (20F) have a good decent size backyard, and community area with huge parks am thinking of potentially taking in a 1.5 year old needing rehoming. I would like to know personal experiences and true health costs. She’s already crate and potty trained, knows basic commands as well. She said to need a woman owner due to being a little bit frightened of men, but not to the point of aggression. I also would like to ask any experienced owners maybe questions that I missed asking her I did ask her a lot of about nipping habits, chewing on furniture habit, how she handles men and new people just cause in my family we do have men, but I would be her primary owner, any pre-medical history or current medical, questions about her eyes, just due to her breed, and how it can tend to sag if that sagging is already causing any issues to irritation towards her eyes toward leading to surgery or needing lubricant drops for her eyes, she’s all up-to-date on her vaccinations. She’s just not spayed. That is something I do know can be a little bit more expensive, but that’s where the insurance for dogs would kind of come in because it wouldn’t be as expensive because it is for neutering/spaying. Is there any other questions for experienced owners with this breed or any advice that maybe I’m over missing I should look at before fully deciding to even ask to meet her or any advice to offer experienced owners that was very helpful to them or would’ve been helpful to them if they knew sooner?

I have a 4-month-old female Cane Corso puppy. Overall, she’s pretty good at listening and following commands, but she’s also very sensitive.
I’m working with a professional trainer who is very firm, and I’ve been following the same approach. For example, before I open the door, I always have her sit and wait. I don’t let her go through the doorway until I give her release cue, “Okay.”

Almost every time she’s waiting, she’ll shake her head and flop her ears right before I release her. My trainer told me that’s basically her protesting—he jokingly said it’s her way of saying “F you” because she doesn’t want to wait. Oh and she’ll look away and or yawn or act distracted while she sits and wait. She won’t give me eye contact.. 😏🙄

For those of you with Cane Corsos or other strong-willed breeds, is this something you’ve experienced? Is the head shake just frustration, or could it be a sign that she’s challenging me?

My biggest concern is that she’s only 4 months old. Is she listening because I’m physically able to control her right now, and will that become a problem as she gets bigger? Or is this just a normal puppy phase that improves with consistent training?
I’d love to hear your experiences.

For those with docked ears, how are you getting them to stand up? My boy has 1 up and 1 that just flops.

The aesthetic is extremely important. And the training, upbringing, and level of care taken is extremely important to me as well. I want breeders that love and take care of these animals but also train them to be militantly protective.

Looking for the pros amongst you. Who would you recommend or who have you heard of that meets such a standard?

Honest question wouldn't be shocked if it gets deleted despite not violating any rules. How are future Corso Owners or experienced Corso Owners seeking new additions expected to vet/research Kennels if the admins here delete any post inquiring feedback from respected owners of a specific kennel? I thought the goal was to preserve the breed and ethical ownership along with the educational side of it. How can anyone get a true answer when posts are removed?? That's a disservice to the breed and the community as a whole. If it's a matter of keeping the peace then clearly it's coming at a cost, the continued poor breeding practices of Kennels mentioned by name. This might be an unpopular opinion but mentioning Kennels by names, breeders by names and referrals by Name should be permitted in a non-bias natured post. These breeders should be held to a ethical standard that CCAA promotes. If a negative review is posted it serves to better the breed by holding the Breeder (if they search for it) accountable to explain themselves along with taking the constructive feedback into consideration to better their operation. That's how we preserve the breed and ethical breeding, so redditers can know exactly where to go for a quality, healthy, ethical pup and where not. If the admins reading this remove it, will only reassure poor/unethical breeders a safe haven

I found a corso abandoned, locked outside in a yard of an abandoned house, really skinny and lots of medical problems. I was feeding him over the fence until I finally tracked down his owner. She couldn’t keep him, so I took him in. I’m committed to seeing him through his medical stuff and getting him back up to weight. It’s been about 3 months now and he‘s doing great on that front! i know he’s a few months shy of 3 years old, and currently 125lb but vet thinks he’ll be 140. My last dog was a black mouth cur, half his size. she had some issues, but I raised her since she was a pup and she was mostly really well trained. I’m not a new dog owner, but I’ve never had a corso before.

so much to love about this dog and I’d love to keep him. but a couple concerning issues that scare me… one, he sometimes lunges at strangers on his leash. Not all the time, and it seems kind of unpredictable what will set him off. First time it happened I got really nasty rope burn trying to hold him back (totally surprised me, and the guy he lunged at was so scared he tried to climb a tree). Now he’s wearing a gentle leader, so I have better physical control, but still concerned about training and underlying issues.

two, he plays too rough, or, concerned I may be missing signs of aggression? He is always leashed for walks, and occasionally gets to play soccer (his favorite game!) off leash in a fenced field when nobody else is in there. When he gets too rowdy with me, usually a firm “stop” will rein it in. But, he gets even more escalated with my boyfriend, and me saying stop doesn’t work in that case. Today, my boyfriend got scared and kicked him, he said he didn’t know how else to defend himself. That’s an absolute no in my book. In that moment, I just put the dog’s leash back on and he settled immediately.

We did work with a trainer a few times. The trainer said, if he’s jumping or getting rowdy, don’t ever push him back because it only escalates things. Instead, just grab his leash and hold him so he physically can’t do that. And also, basically, don’t ever let him off leash. I’ve been working on “desensitizing” his thing with strangers and leash lunging at a park where we can see people walk by but also keep the distance that doesn’t trigger him. That’s working, slowly, some days better than others. As far as off-leash play goes… is the answer really just to never let him off the leash? Doesn't he need a chance to run at least just a little? Seems really sad to me to have a dog that always has to be tied up. I don’t want that for him.

Like I said, so much to love, and I’d love to keep him. But his size is intimidating, and I’m questioning myself. What do y’all think?
