Help

I have a 2019 model car with CarPlay. It doesn’t seem to update things when the software is updated. Meaning the software updates don’t seem to affect the appearance or function of it when I’m using it in the car.

Am I doing something wrong.

My vehicle connects by a wire and sometimes Inise a wireless dongle.

Any advice appreciated.

CarPlay doesn’t impact the car’s overall UI, just the CarPlay interface itself, and that doesn’t update much at all between iOS releases. Not exactly sure what you’re thinking should be updated, so it’s hard to diagnose any particular issues, but when your phone updates, the CarPlay interface is automatically updated too because the two are directly linked.

My Sony head unit in my car gets updates from Sony. After an ios update a while ago, I had issues with CarPlay that were solved by updating my head unit. If there are no problems, I leave it alone.

What kind of things are you expecting to update? The CarPlay UI comes from the phone, so software updates to your phone should affect the appearance of CarPlay. Software updates for the car shouldn’t have any impact on the CarPlay appearance.

I am wanting to add other apps, like weather that does it on my phone but never appears on my car screen.

Each app developer needs to add CarPlay support. Not all of the apps on your phone will work with CarPlay.

If the notice from Apple is that they are adding an app to CarPlay, shouldn't it show up then?? That is what I am not getting.

If you have iOS 26 or 27 you can add a widget to ‘the left of your home screen’ for weather - macro information only. No maps.
