How long does it usually take for professors to post the course content

Classes haven't even started yet. Be patient. Stuff will become available once classes start.

For many it will be the first day of that class.

Some instructors don’t even start getting paid until the first day of class

Exactly. The first pay for contract instructors is in mid September, but syllabi had to be submitted by mid August. Thus, we've already worked a lot of hours before touching a penny.

I'm talking about contract instructors. I'm lucky to get enough contracts to work full time. But some colleagues don't make as much. There's a big difference between tenure track and non tenure track faculty members.

Ok I get what you mean, my bad. Correct me if I’m wrong or if it has changed this year, but I thought last year they stopped hiring part time contract instructors?

No worries! Carleton did indeed reduce CI positions, but we still teach a significant number of classes.

Ah ok I wasn’t sure if they completely did or not so thanks. I actually looked up CI jobs at Carleton and it showed what is offered per course. It was not what I expected so I get what you mean for some of your colleagues that don’t teach many courses

Online course: first day of class.
In-person course: nothing needs to be shared online, but most do it around the first day.

Some classes have homework/quizzes on the first day. The class outlines are posted and the students are expected to review before class starts. It’s too bad that the first class isn’t a review of the course outline and explanation.

Some of them wait until the day of their first class, which can definitely be very annoying. According to the university's policy (5.2 - course outlines), outlines were all supposed to be available today. We shouldn't have to wait until classes start when we need to relay information to managers and book tickets to visit family, which is why the policy was produced this way. You're well within your right to reach out to your professor with questions about the syllabus or just to ask for it, just make sure you do so kindly and politely.
