Bathroom remodel recs

Have had quotes from 15k to 75k for the exact same job. Literally nothing special. Cookie cutter remodel, 100 sq ft. The problem is that every contractor looks at the area code and marks up the price 50%. They all take 2 weeks to get a quote back (further wasting your time). Does anyone have good recs for quality work, good pricing bathroom contractors? I don’t need dirt cheap, I need quality work and not to feel like I’m being hosed.

Postal Deliveries

Does the post office in Carmel ever deliver mail on Monday? Like every Monday no mail delivery. Are they all hung over or strung out from the weekend.

Has anyone seen Chartreuse liqueur for sale anywhere in or near town lately?

Green or yellow, it doesn’t matter. My usual source, Classic Liquors, sold last year because the owner, Rick, wanted to retire. (The revamped store is overpriced, soulless, and dumbed down, IMO, and I only still stop in to see some of the people who have worked there for years.)

If you have laid eyes on an actual bottle on a shelf in the past year or so, please let me know (No, Total Wine does not have it.)

I will have it shipped if I need to (it is for a gift) but wanted to see whether it’s out there locally anywhere.

What’s the average Carmel citizen’s opinion on the growth and urbanism of the city?

Hi everyone. I was here a couple weeks go asking about what life in Carmel was like for young childless people, as I’ve been really looking into potentially moving here.

I like the strides that this area is making and what their future plans are (at least, for the most part, and more than where I currently live lol), but it feels like what people online are saying is conflicting.

When I watch Carmel-related YouTube videos or scroll through Reddit posts here, it feels like some people are happy about it, and others want to stunt all development completely.

My question is, as someone who actually lives there and can talk about the average person, what’s the verdict? I ask because I wouldn’t want to move there just in time for NIMBYism to stop the city in its tracks. What do people think outside of the echo chambers of the internet?

Thanks to anyone who responds. It really helps me out

Does anyone have St Vincent Carmel HR Contact

Does anyone know a HR representative that works at St. V’s in Carmel. I’m a former employee from about 10 years ago and in order for my student loan forgiveness to be approved, it has to be signed by someone who works in the department.

I’ve called and sent a email with all the proper documentation to the general HR email address with no luck. I’ve been trying to get ahold of someone to help with this going on 3 months now.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Basically what the title says. Just moved here & I'm looking for a gynecologist who is very knowledgable about women's hormones, PMDD & ADHD, adenmyosis, endometriosis, etc. Another plus if they commonly do hysterectomies. thanks in advance!

Anybody have experience working at Salt in Carmel?

Curious if anyone here has worked at salt in carmel city center or knows someone who has. I’m considering a kitchen position there and was hoping to get a little insight into what the work environment is actually like.

Mostly curious about management, scheduling/work life balance, kitchen culture, turnover, and whether people generally seem happy working there. I’ve heard there have been some fairly recent staffing/leadership changes in the kitchen, so I’d especially be interested in hearing from anyone who knows what the situation has been like behind the scenes.

Not looking to bash the restaurant or start a rumor mill. Just trying to do my homework before deciding whether it’s somewhere I’d want to stick around long term. Feel free to DM me if you’d rather not post publicly.

Edit: I genuinely appreciate everyone who’s taken the time to give me some insight, especially the people who have actually worked here. I’m on the ground in the kitchen now, so I’m starting to get a better picture of some of the things people have mentioned.

At the same time, I know the Carmel location is still relatively new and it seems like there’s been a lot of turnover and change in a short period of time. I’m not trying to minimize anybody’s experience because clearly some people have legitimate reasons for feeling the way they do. I do think there’s room for the place to grow with the right people and some consistency.

I’ve gotten along really well with the current kitchen leadership so far, and I’m hopeful that bringing in people who care about organization, standards and putting out good food can help move things in a better direction. Time will tell, but I appreciate everybody giving me a clearer picture of what I’m walking into.

PCP recommendations?

My PCP (that I LOVED) retired. I’m having issues finding a new doctor that I like. Any doctor that’s rated highly online has a waitlist of months to get an appointment… yet experience tells me not all great doctors are easily Google-able & online ratings can be misleading. So I came here hoping Reddit will give some better insight 🙏🏼

Looking for someone chill, yet well-knowledged about primary care & who accepts Medicaid. Extra points for a responsive office & the ability to get timely appointments (<1 month wait time).

No preference on age or gender. Willing to drive within 1 hour from Carmel, but obviously the closer, the better.

MDs or DOs only please.

Interest in a regular hiking group?

Good morning Carmel,

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a regular hike/walk group at flowing well park a few times a week. I’m a former outdoor guide from the New England area and have been getting a little lonely hiking on my own since moving here. If anyone is interested, please comment or message me!

Hiring

Buffalouies Carmel is in need of help. Looking for servers, hosts, cooks, and dishwashers. Most of our staff were college students who either went back or just started their college journey. If you or anyone you know is looking for a job or just an extra income call or walk in and ask. The best time would be 2-4. Football season is almost here, and we get packed for IU gamedays.

Looking for local parents of kids with Crohn’s/chronic illness to read a children’s book I’m developing

This may be a slightly unusual request, but I’m hoping to find a few local parents who would be willing to read a children’s book I’ve been working on and give me honest feedback.

It’s called Cecile & Pascal, and it’s a story about a little girl who befriends a young dragon with chronic tummy troubles. Underneath the story are themes that will probably be familiar to families dealing with Crohn’s or other chronic illnesses: pain and embarrassing symptoms, treatments that aren’t much fun, being misunderstood, and learning that being sick doesn’t make you frightening or less worthy of friendship.

I’m especially interested in hearing from parents of children with Crohn’s/IBD, but I’d welcome parents of kids with other chronic or serious illnesses too.
I’m not selling anything. The book is unpublished and still being developed, and right now I’m simply trying to find out whether it feels useful, comforting and authentic to families who actually live with childhood illness.

If you’re in the Carmel/Indianapolis area and would be interested in reading a copy and giving me your honest thoughts, please DM me. No obligation at all if you decide it isn’t for you.

Moving from Orlando to Carmel,(24M) what am I not considering?

I’m moving from Orlando FL to Carmel soon and honestly just wanna know what it's actually like living there. I’m from Orlando and we have Disney, lakes/beaches, I-drive, pretty large downtown, great bars/resrutants Etc. and im looking at Midtown around the Monon, probably Portrait Midtown. Im more curious on the night life and dating scene.

How is it for younger people? Like where does everyone actually go out on the weekends? Is Midtown fun or do you pretty much have to go into Indy for bars/nightlife? How hard is it to meet new people if you don’t know anyone there?

Also how’s the food?? Orlando has literally everything so thats one thing im kinda worried about. Restaurants, coffee, bars, late night food, whatever.

And just in general what am I not thinking about? I’ve never lived in Indiana and I’m coming from Florida so I know its gonna be different 😂 tell me the good and the bad.

Flood damage at car lots near the hazel dell?

I'm looking to buy a car from one of the dealers at the 96th and Gray area right next to the quarry and I know this is pretty close to the really bad areas of flooding, does anyone know if these car lots would've flooded too or were they out of the damage zone? Would expect if they did flood significantly they would probably not be jumping to disclose that

Totally acknowledge in the grand scheme of all the damage done this is inconsequential but hoping someone might be able to help nonetheless. Really appreciate it!

Art Community

Hello! I will be moving to Carmel in 2 weeks and am looking for other artists to make connections with! It would be awesome to have people to hang out with and create and chat! I also love learning about art, going to museums/galleries, etc and it’d be nice to have like minded people! I would love to get more involved in the art community and potentially get my foot in the door for jobs in that realm too. Basically, I love art as a whole and want to be surrounded by it as much as possible. (I am 28 btw, but as long as you’re around my age/older that’s cool!)

Let’s thank Rocky Ripple for their sandbags

Many of the smaller sandbags used by the National Guard to build a dam by the quarry to protect Carmel’s main sewer pipe were filled by residents and volunteers in the town of Rocky Ripple. They worked for days to fill an estimated 15,000 sandbags with sand from the town volleyball court to save their little town. Backbreaking and frantic labor. I used to live near there and ended up seeing a lot of posts about their efforts. It was pretty incredible. It was hundreds of regular people, some of them working for almost 48 hours straight, and random volunteers that answered the call. And now that the river levels have gone down there, some of those sandbags were driven to Carmel, safeguarding one of our major city utilities. I am pretty sure you can see a bunch of those sandbags still sitting at 106 and Hazel Dell, waiting to be used in further flood mitigation efforts (they are sitting on a roundabout, but it’s hard to tell which one from the photos, and I haven’t had a chance to drive over there yet).

Rocky Ripple sustained damage in the flood and could use some help. I think it would be great if the residents of Carmel that are able donated to the GoFundMe as a thank you for the sandbags. I’ve posted the link below.

(to be clear, I am posting this as a Carmel resident).

Looking for an attorney that specializes in home repair issues.

Long story short, about four years ago, we hired a Company A to do a roof replacement. Last year they were sold to Company B. Last week during the storms, I noticed the roof was leaking over the patio. I call Company B and they are mum on whether they will honor the warranty from Company A or not.

We call Company C to give us an estimate for repair. The first thing their assessor says is “you should look into an attorney.” The roof install was done in an extremely shoddy fashion, apparently there are numerous code violations, and obvious cut corners.

So yeah, they are going to do a more thorough inspection of the roof tomorrow, but I wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations for an attorney that might be able to help us navigate this. Thanks!

Need a quiet place for Teams call tomorrow morning

EDIT: THANK YOU FOR THE HELP! I'm all set up for tomorrow morning.

Hey neighbors! I am from McCordsville and have to be over towards Keystone/31 for a doctors appointment tomorrow morning. However I have a teams call for work at 9:30 AM. I called the library and they do have rooms but it's first come first serve, and I don't have a caramel library card. I'm just looking for suggestions in that area (Greyhound Pass) which might offer a decently quiet space with Wi-Fi. I've hunted around on Google but I figured people who live there might know best.

Thanks!

Carmel Film Club is up and running — come join us!

A quick follow-up to my post last week about putting together a casual film meetup in Carmel.
There seemed to be enough interest that I went ahead and made us a Discord: https://discord.gg/eyggvUWJ3

A few people are already in there, and I’m hoping this makes it much easier to actually turn the idea into movie nights instead of trying to wrangle everyone through Reddit messages.

The format is intentionally pretty loose: someone suggests a movie, we pick a showing, and whoever can make it joins. Maybe drinks or food afterward to talk about it. No expectation that everyone makes every meetup.

There are channels for introductions, movie suggestions, and actual plans, and I’d love for other people to throw out movies they want to see too.

If you commented on the original post—or just happen to be seeing this now and it sounds like your thing—come join us!
