Tree Scribe (Update!)

Hey there! I wanted to update everyone on the jig/scribe that I was working on yesterday into today. I think it turned out great!

I’ve also added a few pictures of setting the main tree earlier this summer as well as a few other trees we set in the same area. We worked with WholeTree to supply the my trees and our company performed the install.

This is an elementary school so I’m sure the kiddos are going to love the space.

I might be going out on a limb here, but if you are intent on dropping puns from such a canopy, you should start growing some thicker skin to deflect the haters.

Honest question, since you are doing this in a shop why not cut a dado into the tree so it overlaps the plywood? This would have solve the two major issues with the design. 1. Tight joint, 2. Wood movement. And potentially would have been easier and faster to execute.

This was all performed on-site. Dado was out of the question “just in case the owner wants to revert to original design”. It was definitely a thought though!

That looks amazing.

But given that these trees aren't alive and aren't supporting anything, wouldn't it have been a lot easier to let you built your bench with a solid top and then cut the tree to sit on top of it?

This was a late game change order. This tree is about 13’ tall, just shy of 4,000 lbs and is epoxied onto a 4”x 24” steel post.

So the original plans called for a 5” cap to match the wall but the school was concerned it was going to turn into a trash can. The originals in the background of one of the pics
