Mental math

I just got an abacus to attempt to improve mental math. Is it worth it to take classes or is it better to learn online/videos. On top of this are there any other things to do (practice etc.) to get really good at mental math.

By definition, if you're using an abacus, you're not doing mental math.

What kind of math are you trying to speed up? There are simple things like factorizing and fractions that an abacus will be useless for, but mental math would be great for. As another example, one exercise to cement in multiplication tables is to mentally list prime numbers up a hundred.
